Hi everyone, I was wondering where do you look on the site/forums to find out what professions there are and the requirements to acquiring them. Thank you.

There are no set professions in EVE, you become what you want by spending time learning skills. You start with some skills which you learn (over real time) you can then buy more skills and learn them. I recommend getting your learning skills up as soon as possible. Once your online and your making your char it will become much more clear. A good program for planning your skills in eve is called evemon (a quick google search should find it).
There are no proffesions at all in EVE in the traditional sense in MMOGs,you can train any skill available ingame, soo say you want to be a pirate, you will need to start training for assault ships and interceptors for starters,if you want to be able to help your fleet/squad/etc catch people and hold them there, you need to train for interdictors and heavy interdictors.
If you want to mine, you need to start training for strip miners and mining barges.
Etc... ETC.ETC.... Proffesions in EVE are more of a qualification set for a person or how they make a living in EVE,for exemple people who mission run for a living are called "carebears" or mission runners, that means that they focus on battleships mostly.
People who blow up other people for stuff are called pirates, they usualy fly t2 once capable, people who blow up other people for stuff via wardec (declaring war on another corp/alliance) are called privateers or queers or lame-ass pirate wannabe carebears.
You get the point,if you arent sure what to train ask people around,EVE takes some time to get adjusted to,and it takes ages to even learn half the game, ive being playing for 2 years and a half and I still dont know everything in EVE,cause new expansions and content keep getting released.
Carebears are also industrialists, and basically everyone who doesn't do PvP in the traditional sense (combat). Also, you don't need battleships to run missions. I did lvl4s in my battlecruiser with ease.
OP:
Professions are, as people said, relative. Because you can be whatever you want. When you start, you can take a look at the certificates, as they can give you an idea of what to train. Besides that, I'd refer you to Evemon (standalone program) to make skill-training plans and such.
This is one of the things about Eve that a lot of people love. If you decide fx mining wasn't your thing, you can change (basically) instantly. (:

Ok, that's kinda what I was getting at. I understand there is no, decide you want to be a jewelcrafter and go see your trainer. What I meant is more like...
A list of what you can be: Pirate, Miner, Salvager, Bounty Hunter, Carebear, etc. I have heard of these things by the way, but I was wondering where I could look to see them listed so I can decide what I want to do.
A list of what you need to do those things: I have no idea what type of ship you should train for what, what books I need to get to start salvaging, or how to get a missile launcher if I want to, if it will fit on my ship, etc.
Does that make it clearer, what I am asking?

I think your best bet might be to just start a trial and do the tutorial, the new tutorial is actually pretty good and covers all the bare-bones basics.
Evemon (a 3rd party program everyone uses :P) will help you plan out skills, you can also browse them to get a feel for things. EvE Fitting Tool (another 3rd party program everyone uses) will help you with making good ship fits, as even with the latest improvements the in-game interface leaves a lot to be desired.
As far as professions go.. it's all very fluid and shades-of-grey-ey. Pretty much anything you can do within the game mechanics can be considered a profession if you're good at it. Here's a list of the ones I've run across...
Industry
Miner <w/ specialties if applicable>
Refiner
Hauler (or logistics specialist, as jump freighter and freighter pilots like to call themselves)
T1 Builder
T2 Builder <insert production specialty here>
Drug manufacturer
POS Manager
Combat
Mission Runner
Pirate (fights unlawfully, usually for personal gain)
Soldier (fights lawfully, usually for his faction or 0.0 alliance)
Mercenary (fights for whoever pays the most)
<Insert Ship Class Here> specialist
Fleet Commander
Scout
Cyno Guy (almost always an alt)
Other
Explorer
Corp CEO / Alliance Executor
Added a few I noticed was missing. :P

you forgot inventor, roleplayer and scammer.
There is no real list. If you can think of something to do then go do it. Eve is a game that rewards players thinking and creativity. Don't look for a professions list and decide, instead think of what you want to do and what skills / ships / materials you need for it and go do it.
