Soloability

AcaeusAcaeus Member Posts: 193

Like many I have limited time to play, maybe a few hours a day occasionally. In EQ I always had to choose from a few classes that were very soloable (Necromancer, Druid, Bard, Shaman, Mage, etc).

(IMO, one of the reasons these classes were better at soloing was cause the different tactics they could use to solo MOBs, sometimes yellow or red ones (kiting and its variations))

I'm thinking about getting EQ2 but some things I've been reading are making me concerned about how soloable the game really is.

So, here are my questions:

1. How soloable is EQ2 compared to EQ ?

2. Do all classes have the same soloability ? Casters and Melee ?

3. i know SOE removed any kind of kiting, but is there other ways to kill a MOB or each class has to do the same thing in the same way over and over again ?

Thank you in advance.

you can solo all the way to 50... it will just be slower then grouping... every class can solo

Let me try and help you. Im sure there's others that may have a better idea but this is what I've come to know.

Let me start of by saying this the Story to this Game goes along with alot of team work and guilding, so groups are way important and you gain benefit in the world from it.  While soloing you dont, but that doens't mean you can't enjoy the basic features of the game alone :)

    1. Solo ability compared to EQ1..varies, the con system is completely different.  Some creatures con green but have 2 dots meaning they are still tough as nails.   It is best to get yourself in a guild even if your just a part time player.  BUT you can solo, leveling is just very slow at that and some of the quests and areas ARE NOT available without atleast 3 players in your group.    But soloing is there, I do it sometimes when I dont feel like grouping.   Dont expect to take named mobs, or creatures that fight in groups, which it will tell you if its in a group and highlight all the characters in that group.  Which makes hunting gnolls / orcs that much harder cause solo ones are usually smacked down pretty fast.

    2.  No Not all classes have the same soloability.   Its just a fact of life a medic in the RL is not trained to fight so their chances of survival is less than a soldier that is trained to survive.  Casters well..come on their wear crap for armor and if you can't mezz that soloing is daunting.  It is possible I have seen Casters do it, but they know how to pull off their Chain abilities really well and learned what spells are the best and keep them updated in training.

    3. You can still sorta Kite, but its not the same, some creatures will not leave the woods they're in or the valley they are in which makes kiting hard, plus you may gain aggro since there is never a lack of spawns!!!  Plus some of them if you get to far away will break aggro, so you have to risk being hit.

No every class has a different way of doing things.  There are some quests that alot of classes have to go in there full assualt to complete in order to get to the spot and just touch it to get a quest update, while others can sneak in there hidden and do it.

Don't be fooled, if you dont try and get in groups occasionally, you can not go everywhere and do everything.   The entrance to Firemyst requires atleast 3 players in your group to enter, Shattered Vale requires you to have atleast 4 players in your group and they all have to have finished the quest to get into the zone.

The game is soloable to a point and its fun, but I'll be honest alteast try for a group or a guild so you can atleast have a group for a few hours.  right now alot of the servers have some great people on there that make it easy not to be alone even if yo ucan only be on for a few hours.

You can kill even "con" mobs, but the experience solo is absolutely a joke compared to a group. As you get higher up it seems to become even more of a joke to the point where 10 minutes of soloing is worth about 30 seconds of grouping exp wise. In other words, you can solo, it's just such low experience, so horribly balanced with grouping experience, that soloing is about as fun as pulling hairs out of your head once you know how much quicker you can get the exp grouping. Basically this game is the biggest FU to soloers.

Thanks for the info, it seems that EQ2 might be a little too demanding (time wise) for me.

Maybe I will try it anyway but my impression so far is that EQ2 is less soloable than EQ when you take the most soloable classes of each. In other words, EQ had a few solo specialists which are absent in EQ2 even though of course you still have better or worse soloists in EQ2.

Well too bad, WoW graphics don't really appeal to me nor does the class/race selection or even the lack of customization.

Grouping and quest crunching, which is a new term in EQII which means doing the most amount of kill quests in the least amount of time is a lot quicker, well, more like 4 times quicker than soloing. It is also a lot more dangerous. I have been killed many times by pulling in aggros when I was soloing.

Soloing is not viable in EQ2 after level 20.  Yes, you might find that rare solo mob and see your experience bar creep forward when you kill that precious solo mob after level 20 but it is sooooo much slower than grouping that it is zero fun and all frustration.  If you like to solo more than 10% of your playing time, EQ2 si not the game to buy.
