All right, I'll bite. The problem isn't merely saying that you have to buy a game in order to play it; that particular issue can be addressed with a free trial. The problem is not knowing what you're getting into. The problem isn't merely spending $40. Spending a week on a game to figure out that it's awful is a lot costlier than a mere $40. A free trial can't help with this latter problem. There are a huge number of games out there, and far too many to give all of them a serious go. People who say they've played nearly every game out there haven't played very many of them enough to have any idea what the game is about. In order to find the games that one will like best, it is necessary to be able to filter out games without having to spend a week tinkering with them. That requires having solid information on the game mechanics involved in a game.
You say that 90% of the games that you've bought before playing have ended up being good purchases. But how did you pick those games? Did you throw darts at a board? Did you roll dice? Because those would make about as much sense as picking a game that you know basically nothing about, which is all the information on the game that seems to be publicly available. If you had picked games that way, I'll bet you'd have a much lower success rate in finding games you like.
The question that needs to be answered is, what is the point of your game? Why did you create the game in the first place? Surely the game didn't have its origins in a few people getting together and saying, we should make a mediocre WoW clone that is a lot like WoW except with more bugs and less content, or perhaps substitute some other game for WoW. Some people will misread the original question, so an alternate way to ask the same thing is, why would someone play your game instead of playing some other game?
The first key to a good answer is to talk about actual gameplay. Some companies will blather on about background lore, concept art, and other things that don't actually show up in the game. This is basically an admission that the game is awful if they don't want to talk about it.
The second key to a good answer is to say non-trivial things that are true of your game but untrue of most other games. A generic answer of "we tried to take the best features from other games, improve on them, and combine them into a single game" could describe just about every single game ever made. Not Pong, I guess, maybe not the rare game that starts a new genre, and perhaps not a few others that went out of their way to be oddball games. But virtually every game ever made would fit a boilerplate description like that, and yet some companies offer it as though it's the best they can come up with. Actually, Aion fanboys do that, too. But it's really just a concession that your game is pointless and there's no reason why anyone would ever want to play it.

Our motivation for developing our 3D mmo was based upon our success from our browser based mmo "Angels of Fasaria" that was released late 2004. It has over 29,000 registered members and their support and purchases inspired us to develop or 3d version which is based upon the story and lore of our browser based game. If you check the date time line, the idea and concept was out before we started seeing a swarm of games with "angels" and flying beings. We then thought it to be wise as a small company to scale down our vision for our 3d game and make it appear more basic and less "gimmicky" to prevent us from ironically looking like a copy cat. It's filled with a lot of the lore and story from our original story and myth. We can post the story intro here a bit latter. I'll post more info about the game soon. I prefer personal interaction, it’s all good. lol
Well I just joined the Fasaria community to see what info I could find on the Forums if any and it looks to me like there's only three races -- Angelica, Elf, and Human -- and three classes -- Warrior, Ranger, and Priest? My main beef with this game is the lack of an offensive spell caster class Where's my spell slinger? I might try it out once the trial if available but chances of me buying it are much slimmer without a spell slinger of sorts.
Well the preist so far is a very offensive caster -- he could be a slinger... so far I'm having a blast in the game.... Character level/custization is great.

A real time fighting system with power skills gives a more engaging sense of battle but still implements the RPG feel gamers like to experience with combat. Combat never feels mindless but doesn’t feel cumbersome or overbearing. This removes the “grind” feel associated with many mmos.
Q) What is your combat system, point & click then wait while my toon fights or maybe w,a,s,d press a the left mouse button and slash, right to block or something, how does your combat system work, what sort game style is it?
Q) Currently this is Fasaria World chapter 1, how many chapters are there and are they free latter on or will we have to buy them?

Well the combat system seems to be similar to your typical RPG. You hit CTRL, and you attack with your main weapon .. wand, sword, bow... then you have spells and abilities that have timer on how often they can be used... I've only been playing a few hours, but that's the best I can describe it. I've noticed though a few that make me wonder (though it's a great game--I like how you level and can spend points on various skills--you get experience in many different pools... you have one main experience bar for your level, then each skill has an experience bar... depending on the skill you get exp everytime you use it or in battle.) In combat, every blow seems to hit... no misses... I'm curious how the DEF stat actually works. All and all it's a great shell, I cant' wait to see what the devs add... more items and such... You own property, you can hire henchmen, mine and farm... not sure how the henchman work, haven't tried it yet -- there is a skill that governs henchmen though (leadership)
*note* the game it self isn't very well documentated... so alot of the skills and stats are experimental... only major cocern is potions play a big part of the game... but atleast the potions have a timer so they can't be spammed... with farming, it's easy to make your own.... I'm priest, I believe I can make potions better then others, can't confirm that though....
The style is more real time fighting with point and click skill options. So you target your enemy with mouse left mouse button and then can select a power skill in your menu bar to do a power skill move. It isn't complex but it is fast paced and gets to the point. The more you fight and level up your skill attribute or combat levels, the stronger those attacks are. All drops are placed into your inventory automatically so no need to pick anything up as they all stack endlessly.
It's been tested quite a bit to get the right flow where players could fight for hours and hours and feel a sense of accomplishment and have fun doing it. Combat is fun but there are other aspects and activities that make the game fun and engaging such as farming and mining, crafting, smelting, building karma etc. I’ll give a little more info on each in a short while.
I do agree with Yoda, you feel a real sense of accomplishment, when fighting... your getting exp in 2 or 3 different skills... I'm a priest so I get exp that goes towards level, exp for my priest hoot skill, combat experience and karma experience.
You make it sound as though there is nothing to do in the game apart from grinding to level up various things. Splitting things into into a main character level, various profession levels, and a bunch of separate levels for different skills doesn't make it any less grindy. If anything, that makes it worse.
If you're relying on getting a sense of accomplishment from leveling up by grinding as the reason to play the game, your game has some severe and probably unfixable problems.

Um, please do not troll this topic as I do believe it is against these forum rules. Also it isn't good taste to make players who purchased this game from reading this thread alone feel stupid for liking something you haven't even played. If we did something wrong, they wouldn't be going out of their way to let people know about it. I didn't start this topic, a player who liked this game did. If this game does not interest you, please I beg, ignore it.
It's not about grind; it's about accomplishment as the game itself is very rewarding and has SO much more than combat that makes the game fun. For the thousands that played our browser based games, we aren't idiots. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are not looking to convince everyone to be sold on our game. It was never our intent to shove a lie down people's mouths simply to get paid. We want ONLY people who are interested to buy our game and join the community. There are different tastes and preferences in gaming. We are reaching out to those who may be looking for our style of game. We want everyone to be happy with their game experience.
Wow, I just spent over 30 minutes reading this single thread, and to be honest I'm very frustrated with it. For starters, I agree this doesn't seem like some kind of scam to market their game. Why don't you post details? Why does your site of NO information about your game?
Yodablaze, I'm not sure if you see how significant this thread actually is for your game. This is obviously a very big community and the outcome of this thread could mean the difference of your game getting many new players or not.
Now the solution to all these questions is very simple. Explain your game. Exactly how does your combat work? details. Exactly how do all the other aspects of this game work? details. Mining, you say is fun.. why?
But on a positive note: Your game does sound very interesting. I used to play Ultima Online and I loved that game, this sounds kind of similiar. With the crafting skills and being able to own houses and such. And I think you are taking the criticism very well.
One thing I find odd:

Why the hell not? and what lie would that be? Confusing to me... If you're confident about your game why wouldn't you want to convince everyone about it? What is the lie?!?!?

Keep in mind, the players are talking about this game, we are only trying to keep up. We are a modest company. Players loved the way we made games from our browser based games and we simply wanted to expand our vision. I can see why it's a little hard for some members to put into simple words why the game is fun as it's a combination of things not just one thing.
We use a specific gaming philosophy that has guided us in the development of all of our games and thus brings out results that just works. It's not one thing that is done; it is a combination of things that is done. I don't expect the game to be for everyone as it's really RPGish but so far everyone just likes it a lot.
"No matter the amount of resources or tools that is available, make sure you use them to pull your product together. Never leave your parts far apart. Bring your vision together and it will stick."
This may sound weird at first but it simply means that more doesn't always mean better. As many tools as you use, make sure it fits in well with other parts of the game experience this way things feel tight. A world that is too big and not enough of substance to bring you into the experience can fall apart. A combat system with countless skills that players do not use or are simply the same skill with new icons and particle effects can feel more cumbersome than fun. If you use a lot of tools and resources, each part has to come together. Sometimes we can complicate things to a point where players feel more exhausted than excited about progressing. We've done our best to take the very basic aspects of what make a game fun, strip away a lot of the inflation and take a chance on the simple things that a lot of developers ignore. I will not give away all of the secrets but I'll relate a few things about our game that I believe sounds basic but it’s not just what is done, but how.
1. Our farming and mining is addicting, as far as I could tell from beta testing till now that it is one of the most addicting and engaging that many players have played (this is based upon their responses). It isn’t complicated though. It doesn’t need to be. It also ties in with other aspects of the game that is needed so your actions never feel useless or tiresome. You also gain labor experience for your hard work that levels up and grants you attributes and special medals.
2. Combat is not inflated. A lot of non sense doesn’t make a combat system “cool” or fun to play. We worked hard to make sure it flows well, feel fun and rewarding. There is a reward for almost every action so everything starts to feel worth while. If it’s your style of gaming, you’ll like it.
3. Karma is a simple and fun aspect of the game. I will not give away all of the info here as I would update our site with the info about karma.
4. Earning your own property allows you to do many things you can not do else where. You can farm and mine right on your property, trade in your medals for rare items, hire a mercenary, buy a storage box to store your items, create a shop where you can sell your items, complete fairy missions to earn extra goods, feed the poor to earn extra medals and karma, add citizens to your land and soldiers where you can then collect taxes from them, use the trade market to sell items in bulk amounts and more.
5. We designed the game understanding that a lot of seasoned gamers and working adults need their game to get to the point. We tried not to waste your time so that you can get into the game anytime you want and have a great time. The reward system is very high and there are lots of things to do that tie into the game.
You can read some reviews on our website as members say it better than I can. I'll try to add more info soon and sorry to be so brief as we are very busy. Thanks again for your patience everyone.
I am interested in the farming option. How does that work? And what do you do with whatever you produce? Is it just plants or just livestock or both?
I will give you a better idea how the farming and mining system works and then I’ll post again but give me a little time.
Also to add, our game is not egotistic and was never designed to exhaust player’s time or to bog you down where you feel as if you must dedicate your life to our game and our game alone. Since we are not subscription based and we didn’t make the game impossible to progress through without buying or earning specific items, you actually feel like returning to our game happily. Yepeee, free will is back! Go play other games if you like, live life, feed your dog, remember to eat dinner, you’ll still always come back to play Fasaria World. It’s a good buy, its good fun.
We developed this game being as honest as we could be as gamers. We want to get paid, we want to sell games, but we want people to enjoy them to. We are glad so far our modest steps are being loved by our members. We are not a big company and our community is new and growing but the quality of the response is incredible. It’s harder for us as a small company to come out like this as gamers will be very honest up front. We can’t hinder player’s opinions through a flood of advertisements (at this point at least) so their positive and honest feedback is all we have.
"I will give you a better idea how the farming and mining system works and then I’ll post again but give me a little time."
You forgot to give us a better idea how the farming and mining system works.. lol
Why don't you (or whoever runs the webpage) put all the games information on the webpage? That way you can say, Any questions? Refer to the webpage. Or make a readme of something.
PS - When I used to play UO, I loved mining and gathering ore then crafting my own stuff. Gave me a sense of accomplishment. So I can see where you are going when you say it can be very rewarding, & addicting.
1. You first go up to your garden or farming area.
2. You either select collect seeds or harvest.
3. You need enough seeds to harvest or you will not be able to. If you have enough, you will be able to harvest and collect the resource the plant has to offer (berries, mushrooms or herbs). You then gain labor experience and each time you harvest you gain one level in farming (500 max level). The higher your level, the more seeds and resources you can harvest. When you gain enough labor experience your labor level increases and you gain medals and extra attributes to spend on your character.
4. Each time you collect seeds or harvest you use up turns. You have to earn turns through combat in order to continue farming this system is true with mining. There is a total of 100 turns and you gain +1 turn after each defeat of an enemy of any level. This system prevents over grinding of farming as you have to also earn turns to collect seeds and harvest.
5. Your resources are used to create healing elixirs and mana elixirs. These elixirs are vital for survival in battle and is a major asset in the game. Managing your elixirs will determine how well you fair in battle so each resource is important. This system makes farming and combat very important as they both help each other out. You can not buy elixirs from a shop, you can only purchase it from other members so it is a great asset. Your priesthood determines how many elixirs you can make and you gain priesthood experience each time you create elixirs.
Crystonia and Mithronia:
Crystonia and Mithronia bars are made through smelting. You use the gold bars, crystonia and mithronia nuggets that you gained from mining to smelt bars. You gain smelting experience each time you create a bar and your smelting levels up with enough experience. Crystonia and Mithronia bars are used along with your in game currency to purchase weapons, armor and items. They are considered another form of currency.
This is a simple system but it works as they all tie in together nicely. I'll try to post more info soon, but excuse me if I don't reply in a timely fashion. We will be updating our website with more info soon.
Well curiosity got the better of me and I've used your coupon and bought your game, now I'm awaiting an email with my download link or info on how to download the game.
The Priest class sounds very interesting to me. I feel even more inclined to buy this game, but I had a few questions and now I can't remember them... It's early and my brain's not awake yet OH this one question I did have, would I be able to buy someone else this game using my account for like gifting purposes? Also is there a limit to how many skills you can learn and how high you can get each one? Also is each class restricted to the type of equipment they can use? For example if I decided to start playing a Priest would I be able to ware Leather Armor and use a 1-H or 2-H sword? Also you mentioned being able to gather citizens and soldiers. Does that mean you can go from owning a House/Farm to owning a city? Alright well that's about all the questions I can remember now and it's about time for me to goto work, I'll probably end up buying this game when I get home, it sounds really promising and like something I could probably enjoy playing as well as something I can leave and come back to later and not feel left behind.
I'd like to add anything made by David Allen is bound to be a great game. Horizons was really good in it's time and Infinate Worlds would have to be the best dungeon crawler made. True to usual form there is a rather poor advertisment of the game. With that aside this game comes with my personal reccomendation.
Umm.. yodablaze.. I just purchased the game, however I did not get a link to download, just an error page.. I am not trying to raise any kind of eyebrows or anything, but umm. If you could send me a PM about how I am supposed to create an account and/or download my product it would be greatly appreciated. (if you dont believe me I could send you a bank statement)

(from the websites forum)
Who is online
Who is online In total there is 1 user online :: 0 registered, 0 hidden and 1 guest (based on users active over the past 5 minutes)
Most users ever online was 11 on Wed Jan 21, 2009 10:51 pm
Doesn't seem like a very big community to me. =
Another thing I find odd:
"I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are not looking to convince everyone to be sold on our game. It was never our intent to shove a lie down people's mouths simply to get paid."
Why the hell not? and what lie would that be? Confusing to me... If you're confident about your game why wouldn't you want to convince everyone about it? What is the lie?!?!?
I look forward to the trial. Looks like a promising game.
Is it just plants or just livestock or both?
...
This is where I draw the line: __________________.
Sorry about the delay.
Farming:
