Eve is just so much more.....hmmmm.....different, i guess.......I just wouldn't go as far as to say better than anything out right now but it is a very good game. I'm loving it right now, I just jumped back into after the released the expansion and it's fantastic.

Try eve. Full client download plus 14 days free play. That's the only way your going to get a non-biased answer.
Well until proven otherwise... One has developers cheating the system, since they play the game, the other doesnt.
uh, lol?

Not at all...
How can you compare a game that appears to be doing what it is supposed to do, with one that isnt?
The crap that CCP has been caught in, over EVE, is mind bogling....the latest being the attempt to restore BoBs name afaik. That is unless something else has happened since.
IN a competetive game, such as EVE, I dont understand why folks would keep playing despite knowing the fact the odds are stacked against them. Not being an EVE player, it is my understanding the BPO problem was a HUGE advantage. ONe they held for a bit of time(wasnt found overnight).
ANd at 40 yrs old in life, I know where there is smoke there is fire. CCP says an audit was done, and nothing else was found. WHich I highly doubt seeing as IIRC they hid this news as long as they could. SO not only was crap going on...CCP was covering it up.
So again the OP was about comparing the games...one I feel is fair with it's customers. The other is one you will be cheated in...by the company with your CC number no less.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
All you'll get comparing EVE and LOTRO are opinions, like this one. Or rants about the companies and publishers.
They won't be comparing the game, because frankly, they're two of the best of their respected sub-genres. Just give each one's trial a shot and decide for yourself.

Both are nice mmorpg's, that started small and are growing bigger.
But there the comparison ends I am afraid

Best you can do say you like one more than the other. They differ in most aspects.
You could make a list of relevant aspects of each game and explain them but comparing is pointless. For example EvE has a mostly dynamic spawn model whereas LOTRO has a static spawn model. This makes EvE for freeform but more obviously repetitive. Whereas LOTRO is more predictable but has nicer premade set-pieces.
Which is better? Depends on taste. Why are they different? That would take an entire explantion of the game's other features. EvE's spawn model has a lot to do with other apsects of the game namely things like travel and system neighborhoods and the variosu affects on the markets for localities.
There is a reason EvE is a space game. It is more than just because the designers like ships. The game tries to encompass space on all its levels and consequences to some degree. Whereas LOTRO is a static environment that is on the surface of a "land", planet, whatever.
The only type of land game that could do what EvE does is something like a Planescape campaign where they somehow captured the infinite nature of each plane of existence kind of like an EvE star system. IN that you can fly forever in an EvE star system. Each system is essentially an instance of inifinite with special spawning/chunking etc mechanics.
I wish there was a Planescape game that did that by the way that would awesome. Great setting and so many cool possibilities if you could somehow make a dynamic non-static multiple infinite world on land rather space.
Not sure if that would work out on other levels though. The point of dynamics game like EvE is that you can stay in your area and are never required to go to particular places just to get "content". And D&D-like game will almost certainly have a high demand for static set piece dungeons. Perhaps there is some happy medium. But EvE isn't the game that has it. Nor are any of the static games like LOTRO or WoW, even EQ2 with itsset of Dynamic dungeons (splitpaw i think) put them in static places.
Cant compare both. They are like day and light... or night and dark...

Just to note. I wasn't saying that one was fail and that the other was awesome. Just that it is so difficult to compare the two games. Granted I do prefer LOTRO, but I was not forming a comparison in the least bit. That is all.

Its like trying to compare an Orange to an Apple.

Totally uncomparable, LOTRO is epic high fantasy, EVE is an OPVP space game with many technical aspects. It's like comparing a Glock and a banana.

Just try them both.
Eve and LoTRO always come out #1 and #2 in fan polls/contests so you can't go wrong with either.
Word. Both great games, but very very different games.

- FPS Quiz - how well do you know your shooters?
