ANY MMO OUT OF THE WOW MOLD IS FANMOTHERFINGTASTIC.  If I had 20 mill to blow I would also attempt somthing outside the EQ- Wow - war mold.

I just want to point out that Neocron was a absolutely horrid game, with very few players actually finding it enjoying.... Even after upgrading the game to Neocron 2 and giving it away free, they couldnt get that horrible thing off the ground... Heck the european version had tits and ass, and still that didn't help.

So I'm really happy that FE has about nothing in common with Neocron, and has more in common with SWG.... At least SWG was a successfull game (2'nd largest P2P game, and growing, without advertising and without bugfixing..only by word of mouth...) up until MMO virgins found WoW printed on the side of their schoolbus and in their local newspapers, and suddenly WoW was the new "sliced bread", and every game that couldnt do what WoW did, was a failure...as in 11 million subscribers or you're a fail...

Well, FE is going to fail, it's not going to match WoW, it's not going to be the next sliced bread, it's not going to be the second comming of christ(WAR tried that), and it's not going to be the next UO Pre-Trammel.

FE is going to be FE, a game of its own, with its own niche playerbase, not aiming for what its not.

The newer MMO players are amazed at having some horse as a mount while in SWG it had freakin spaceships and land vehicles that can freakin carry 30 people but not only that they were COMPLETLY customizable.
It pisses me off that all these other developers out there dont start off the road that SWG fell off of. I know HUNDREDS of people that would to this day still be playing SWG if they didnt fuck it up. It pains me that Devs dont seem to use the technology thats available to them and just plainly stick to the lazy ass way of making MMO's...copying games like WoW ><.

Im really glad that fallen earth is taking there OWN route and learning from the games that they should be learning from not the ones that just got lucky. (WoW)

It will not be that great of a game, because for the reasons you just mentioned. This game will look great,i am sure of that, however it falls into the EXACT same mistakes every game the last 3 years has fallen into.

PVP does NOT work. This game no matter how you want to justify it,is still based around PVP,you cannot nor will it ever work, trying to make a PVE and A PVP game. One is based off of logging in and killing people, how does that correlate to a PVE game at all?

PVE is about  NOT killing people,it is about helping team mates finish goals and challenging tasks. Each individual player can coincicde with each other as a team instead of PVP players all tryin to one up on each other with better gear or spend more time into building superior stats.A casual player cannot one day decide to go fishing or enjoy a new map, without worrying about some kid trying kil lhim and send him back to home point.

If this game tries to have seperate PVE and PVP servers ,but with the exact same game, that will be a joke and tell me that the game will not excel in either or.This will tell me that they did not  design a game at all,but merely made some maps and allowed PVP and PVE servers .The game has to be designed around PVE and the same for PVP.I have nothing against PVP at all.GO play Unreal tournament on a well designed map against a good player and you will soon learn the difference between REAL PVP and the wanna be crap i see in games today.

It will not be until developers get this PVP notion out of their thick skulls and realize you have to make a PVP or a PVE game not both. This is the same reason FFXI is the only TRUE grouping game left, why? simple it was designed from the ground up around 6 player parties. It has eased it's mechanics over the last 2 years but is still basically a group game that everything is based on.

Fallen Earth has not taken their OWN route,it was very obvious from the out set ,they wanted a hardcore PVP,but when a little flack was aroused, now their stance is one of "Their not sure" just how they are going to do it.

Actually a wee bit wrong there Wiz.

The first released info about FE, and their initial website, had barely any mention of PvP at all. What it was focused on, and they have lost much of since then was RP.

The first reports and website was all about making the ultimate RP game. They and it was all about mentioning RP mechanics and how to cater to RP'ers, not PvP mechanics and PvP'ers.

Sadly, they have lost much of this focus now, and RP is barely mentioned... But much of the RP mechanics are still in place, and more are planned for later.

The PvP in Darkfall might possibly be. But then again, I could care less about full ganking loot gameplay. I did that in UO, and saw how it pushed people away from the games... Heck it's happened in every game since that tried to be some "PvP" heaven game.

Darkfall might have alot of other mechanics that would make it a better game on paper, but that is all "ruined" by the simple thing that it's Full PvP loot ganking... It will not atract the RP crowd, but the "But RP is all about killing massacring and lamenting their children!! WAAAAGH!!" crowd (the crowd that couldnt care less what else the game offered really).

Honestly I don't care if Darkfall is better than Fallen Earth or not.  I am just glad to see that those of us who enjoy sandbox-style games have options again.  I trust the development of Fallen Earth much more than I do that of Darkfall.  They have been much more open about information and sharing gameplay than Aventurine has.

Either way, options are good.  I also hope Earthrise and Mortal Online are decent titles and release.

Ah you care bear freaks PvE based MMORPG's are the biggest fing con since…ummm… Microsoft. You are paying good money to play a linier game with a bunch of whiny ass 12 year old pre hormonal little gob shites. Then add to that the simple fact that you’re basically playing NWN or NWN2 or Fallout 3 but you have to play with the aforementioned freaks to get anywhere in the game, as well as having spent good money to get the game, then pay to play the game each month. Your idiots! If you want to play a game like that with your mates then get NWN or NWN2 and play it multiplayer! You can even make your own maps and quests for you and your friends to play!

MMORPG has and should always be more about PvP than anything else. It’s only since this type of game has started to try and appeal to the masses that it’s become this lame rip off of non multiplayer games. MMORPG’s are meant to be and are best when they cater for PvP. If you don’t like PvP then get the off the net and play your lame ass linier non player driven games and leave us real MMORPG’ers to our favoured and beloved invention.

As to Calling Neocron lame and unsuccessful LMFAO!!! It was huge when it was a new game. All servers where busy and you could find PvP happen all over the game and it was great! Really felt like you where really in a futuristic post apocalyptic world. It was hugely successful game and one of the only MMORPGs to have massive player driven PvP conflicts. What killed Neocron was time, and bad management later on in its life. By there being very little new content added, well not till it was too late and then the game graphics became dated and by the time someone did get around to doing something with them, it was too dead to revive, also add to that the problems they have had with new subscriptions recently and you basically have why the game is no longer what it used to be. Back in 1996 it was something great no surprise its dead over 10 years later! I mean to say it never got off the ground??? How does a game stay arround for 12 years and not get off the ground?  Dispute all this it still has a 7.0 rating on this site! So shut you mouth you ignorant moron your taking shit.

I loved SWG but by comparisons it was a steaming pile of shite compared to Neocron. SWG was only successful mainly due to two factors 1. it was Star Wars and 2. it was very customizable - not just in weapons and clothing but cites,  cars, ships, even the character  types where very customisable. But it was laggy, buggy, and had a very clumsy GUI.

As to role-play I'm a huge role-play geek (just look at the crappy picture of me LARPing lol) you name the pen and paper RPG and I've probably played it. But most of you out there just don't get role-play or have such a trashy sop opera view of it that basically online role-play is utter shite. It’s very small market so no MMORPG is ever going to be able to do it right, and stay in business… or you do get the numbers and masses who don’t get it just F it up. RPG in its true form only works in pen and paper format or in LARP take it to a computer game and the rest of the morons in the world F it up. Christ most real RP's dont get it for christ sake lol.  I've been on enought RPG chats to know, like White Wolfs New Bremen digi chat, or there new(er) World of darkness chat rooms ½ the people on there have no fing clue.

Sorry to rant on but if you will get me started lol. Darkfall looks like it's going to be absolutely awesome the first true MMORPG to break the mould in a long time, and it's doing it in all the right places. I just hope it's as good as it looks and sounds. God dame care bear freak that you are wolf... add to that blinded for your love of star wars too. You should really wake up a take a long hard look at SWG and start loathing SOE and Lucas Arts for royally fing that one up. They almost had it right then went for pleasing the masses and it just went from glitchy but cool, to total shite.

Eve rocks! If you don't like it your a a 12 year old, or have the mental age of one, with the attention span of a goldfish! We are so glad your not screwing up the greatest MMORPG to date! Or of course you just might not like this kind of game ;D ...weirdo’s!

Excellent!  So Darkfall is finally going to be the game all you full-loot, FFA PvPers are looking for.  I'm extremely happy for you.  Enjoy.  And there's a DF forum for you to be happy in too.  Why are you here?

Now, for the rest of us, I'm very much hoping Fallen Earth will bring back the community and freedom of pre-CU (or even pre-NGE) SWG.  I especially miss the deep crafting.  I loved the days when I had the best collection of resources on the server and was one of the top 2 or 3 weaponsmiths that the uber fighters came to for their weapons.  And my own fighting characters didn't have to waste all that time camping for loot with 900 other folks because I could MAKE them the best gear, at least for weapons.  Then add in the guild community, with a great armoursmith for armour, doctor for buffs, etc., and you got a real sense of working together as a community.  Not just a community of forum or vent talkers, but actually in-game, doing stuf fthat helped each other.  And we STILL couldn't beat DWB, so it wasn't ALL about gear.

And I'm really really tired of the same fantasy classes.  OK, so you wrap different textures and some sci-fi jargon and you still come out with tank, healer, archer and mage, but at least it would feel and look a little different.  And perhaps, if done right, it might even play a little differently.  Yes, I'm lookiing forward to 2009-2010 and some new sci-fi titles to try.  EVE is great, no arguement there, but the ship-as-avatar is too impersonal for me, and the crafting is either in PvP guilds in 0 space, or an even longer wait for a free slot in the public machines than it takes to train Battleships 5.

Modern graphics, sci-fi, crafting and FREEDOM...man, Fallen Earth could be SO good.

And now we're seeing the fallout from Blizzard's hand-holding design philosophy in virtually every recent and upcoming MMO. Not as complete WoW clones, but as games with dumbed-down gameplay mechanics that your average five year-old can grasp, all because Blizzard has proven to be successful with it.

    PS, Ak'Kan FTW.

Precisely, imo if a company has the money and talent to back up the product, a game design similar to fallen earth can be VERY successful. They are many people out there extremely interested in old style gameplay/design. With a well thought out, stable design this game can easily hit the 500k sub mark. Atm absolutely no company should try to compete with WoW gameplay/design, instead what they need to be doing is not copying, but innervating. And I think inde companies as well as other larger companies are starting to see the bigger picture. Lets just hope this innervating MMO whichever it may be is out rather soon, because lets face it, i think just about EVERYONE that plays MMOs atm is looking for the next big thing and i pray Fallen earth is it.

    Good luck FE.

The FE community is fantastic! If anyone has'nt made it over to FE, check it out and register. The community is very helpul and welcoming to new players.

As for old SWG fans, everyone knows Tiggs, she was the Director of Community Relations for the Star Wars Galaxies back in the days, until she left SOE.

This is one I have my eye on and maybe you should too

Yea I agree the FE community is great. I had high hopes for Darkfall but there website was near useless for far to long and if there own website cant keep up with there acual game development, so what makes me think there developers can keep up with the solutions to there constant MMO bugs/fix etc. FE seems to be working very hard and seems to communicate a ton with there fans. Most of the questions you may have are already answered on there website so go check it out :D.

I think that DF and FE share alot of features in common...

The difference is the setting, fantasy vs post-apocalypse.

Maybe Fallen Earth doesn't have full loot (i hope the devs can make it in), but the the two games are very similar... Sandbox, First Person shooting stance, large world without istances...

Maybe we can play them both, i love fantasy and sci-fi either...

Now I’m not talking about Necoron in its current state, but back in its day before it got old and the forgotten and then someone tied to bring it back to life in 2.2 or where ever they call it now.

Neocron has to be my first real MMORPG I played. Lot of grinding and learning to get up to higher lvls and then into some of the best PvP faction based player driven PvP combat / campaigns I’ve ever witnessed till Eve Online. None of this ball shit linier WoW or Guild Wars crap. True player driven PvP, the only way Neocron could have been better is if you could have made you own instillation like in SWG rather than fighting over pre placed ones.

To be honest I’ll most likely give this game a miss and hold my breath for FOOL (Fallout Online) which will hopefully be 100 time better and more in depth than this cheep and nasty looking knock off. But the more I reflect on this rant and look at this game and the hype... the more I find I might be eating my words... only times gona tell on that one.

madjimbob, Wolfmann, you are both partly right. I played Neocron 2 for 14 months from release so I can comment on it.

In terms of features and atmosphere, Neocron was far ahead of its time. Gritty postapocalyptic environment, sort-of-FPS aiming in a MMORPG, apartments you could furnish, a reasonably well designed crafting system - the list was impressive.

Unfortunately, the list of shortcomings was just as long. Frequent client crashes, extreme lag with more than 30 players in one zone, LOTS of zones which disrupted the flow of the game, Dome Of York quests that were obviously not adjusted for the different mob population...
the developers at Reakktor were clearly overtaxed with the project. I finally gave up on it because I did see not much improvement.

Overall, I'd consider it a nice achievement if someone would recreate Neocron in better coding quality. I'm currently watching Fallen Earth and Earthrise, in the hope that one of them delivers what Neocron promised.
