I dont understand why people are still playing this game. I mean what to they do since there is almost no content?
Ask the average EVE player (like me) why we haven't done a mission in many, many months (some years). It's because a living breathing player is much more intelligent and entertaining then a brainless NPC. Like CCP, Darkfall devs understand hte pker mindset so they try not to waste too much bandwidth on suicidal AI scripts (aka NPC) that are designed to loose
In EVE, you barely find spawns and when you do- they do the samething everytime. And yet- 0.0 (aka nullsec) is most entertaining place in all of EVE and full of content because they allow Players to build structures / deathstars etc.
This is what player driven content is. If you don't understand this then WoW has truly ruined this new generation of players. WoW is what I call a 'static MMO'. A magic world where nothing ever changes. A man can die a thousand deaths and run back to battle with his best sunday suit on. In games like Darkfall / EVE, they are dynamic and player driven. A man can die and loose it all in one tragic, silly moment. Players can form Alliances and conquer. Newbies and Vet can all team up and make things happen.
Some AI is coo but they just cattle and training dummies that provide us with equipment and gold
someone should link to your screenshots from darkfall online forums. Would make a good suggestion to add mobs in here... They should try to put ghosts in there or something and give it a little back lore. reward an explorer for his troubles
Not all doom and gloom though. Theres a lot of spots where you can get high quality drops from mobs but they are spread about the world and a few tough to solo
If you put something on the Df forums suggesting the game is not currently 100% great... the mods will just remove it either before or after the immature flaming. Like that nice reedit of the feature list from the web sites which took out features not in release.

What do you mean by content? Darkfall is a FFAPvP sandbox MMO. Quest are not considered content. So you can do anything else, except quests.
So running around looking at scenery and PvPing = content? I understand that Darkfall is not a run of the mill game, and Im guessing there are some kind of quests and storyline, I don't know because I haven't played the game. If not Id feel lost, wondering why the hell am I here? .
All MMO's have Quests but we have the freedom to ignore them and do our own thing.
Have you ever seen the movie "The Cube" ? That's what it reminds me of, minus the death traps that is. Just go from blue room =>to red room => to white room etc,etc when i kinda think about it , it would've made a very intellectual movie with all this symbolism descreetly lurking in the backround but then again it would've been also a very boring movie.
I saw that movie and your right, death awaited you in every room (maybe). I wonder what the Dev's were thinking when they made this area, Did they expect the players to fill it with sand or something ? Totally at a loss at why they would waste so much time on something that is empty of anything worth exploring.

Eve online is one of the best sandbox games out there. Nearly everything is driven by the players. Ship and module production requrie highly organized large scale logistics, meaning sometimes thousands of people are involved.
Now the difference that I am seeing here between Eve and Darkfall (in fairness I have NOT played Darkfall) is that the players aren't given any backstory in Darkfall. So people wander around the game, admiring the scenary until they run into someone. Great. That only takes me so far.
I want to be emeresed. I want a compelling reason to fight over territory, to put put up my outpost, keep etc here or there. Part of that is having some basic storyline introduced to the game through some questing. Part of that is giving me a believable backstory, with PLENTY of tools to utilize in my sandbox adventure.
So far, just basing my opinions on the game reviews and this forum, this seems to be lacking in Darkfall atm. This is, of course, correctable. The thing is that you have a limited time to correct them before everyone moves along and your game dies.
yep in beta they told me it was empty atm and safe to cross, and I went through, and enjoyed the emo scenery. I don't think working on endgame mobs should be a high priority for AV right now, they must first fix their fail seige system, their fail skill balance, their fail customer support, and their fail availability

Lots of things still need tweaking but its working quite all right. Even in wilderness theres places to see so far and dont have constantly look around do i aggro that mob left or right. I have been amazed that Aventurine managed to make all this and so far its very enjoyable to me and my friends.

Read This Article from back in '07. Read what Tasos says about the AI in the game and, especially, their views on PvE content in DF.
In particular, this paragraph:
"Darkfall is a PvP game without leveling so one may think that we wouldn't pay that much attention to PvE. It's quite the opposite. PvPers have much higher standards for their combat experience, they like to be challenged, they like to have fun, they have to train, and I believe that those needs are fully satisfied in Darkfall's AI system."
That paragraph, and the amount of detail they give on PvE content (ie. mobs) and the AI they were boasting doesn't seem to fit with your version of DF's current state. They clearly and without any ambiguity consider(ed) PvE to be quite an important part of the game.
By many accounts of the game they actually released, they didn't deliver. It has nothing to do with them foregoing it out of some "understanding the PK'er mindset".

Yes, my bad i didnt write it clear. Point is that every game out there has grinding element. Recent years many new lvl based games had replaced more or less open grinding with quest based grinding. I found it nice for a change that we can go where we decide to. There isnt any levels which restricts us, but some of harder mobs need more players or characters that have upped their skills little. With good company you can relax on this game as good as in any game. And with friendly fire too, in combat you need to watch your swings little more.
Im very glad this game made it, what has been recent options after WOW? Lotro, War, Aoc, Tabula Rasa etc.. they all had very similar gameplay style and it was defined by levels. This game is different and that is why it will never be for everyone. I bet many of you werent here when Eve was released? There was lotsa hate and bad mouthing back in 2003 before i even registered. And that game is now in very good shape. People just adapted what they learned from previous games. I am willing to give Darkfall chance and thats why i am playing it. It feels im playing something different and not just that next game which has levels.

You did not have a choice in the matter now did you ! The game engine cannot support NPC's, mobs, and players on a large scale so something had to go.
