Originally posted by Faelan I decided to quit about a month after release because of all the bugs. Came back shortly before player cities went live to see if they had fixed most of the bugs. Ran into a really nice PA (RBEU) who was lucky enough to get a player city up and running on Naboo. Things went well for a while, but eventually what was once one of the largest rebel PA's on Eclipse began to crumble. People grew tired of the game and became more and more frustrated over the way the developers were handling things and the abysmal customer support.By the time JTL entered beta, the PA was just about dead and a couple of weeks later the council officially closed it down in SWG. The majority of the PA had decided to move on to EQ2 instead where they have recent formed a new guild. I decided not to follow them however. I was already in the EQ2 beta at that point and from what I had seen there, I knew it wasn't my cup of tea. Although I'll miss them a lot, I can't justify playing a game that I don't think is fun to play. I joined another PA who had close ties with my former PA and who had been part of the city from when it was founded. In addition to that, I took over the role of mayor of the city since he wanted to shift to EQ2 as well.I have no intention of quitting the game again, but I must admit that I feel a bit burned out on it at the moment. JTL hasn't really helped there. It's decent, but you can only blast the same ships with the same uninspiring AI for so long until it becomes a boring grind. I'm used to playing IL2 sturmovik in fully realistic mode with all the bells and whistles. That makes JTL feel rather simplistic to me, which doesn't make it any better.Having downloaded and tried the WOW open beta, I must say that I'm quite surprised at how good it is. I thought it was going to be more of the same old. It technically is, but Blizzard somehow managed to make it fun and adventurous. It's the closest I've ever gotten to that enchanting experience I had when I made my very first MMORPG character in EQ many years ago. It has the same sense of wonder and amazement, something that I've never felt with any of the many other MMORPGs I've tried since then. Because of that, I plan on picking up WOW and switch between the games depending on my mood. It seems like a match made in heaven. They're both casual friendly enough to allow me to achieve something without dedicating all my time to one game only, and they're so different in world and style that playing one won't make me feel tired of the other. And that's all I have to say about that
Damn, I didn't know RBEU folded shame, damn nice guild you lot were. Anyway, hope to see you in WoW, I've tried EQII as well and it's just not for me.

I still play SWG and feel I have a lot of sense. You talk about flogging the dead horse, what do you think you SWG bashers are saying something new? That the people that like it haven't heard everything you're saying before?
The bashers don't post for the people who play and like the game...they post for the people who are looking to get a feel about the game before buying it (which is a major reason for these forum) and to express discontent that they know would get deleted in about 15 minutes on the SOE boards. Perhaps you don't have as much sense as you think if you believe the bashers are posting for the fanboi's. Also I don't mind hearing about why it doesn't sux, but I haven't heard that I just keep hearing that it doesn't...there usually is never any why.

If you'd quit saying it sucks, you wouldn't have to hear why we don't think it does.
Uhh ok, so what do you find fun about the game besides the friends you've made online there?
Made it to master bio engineer and then... nothing.
All that grind for nothing. And it's not just BE that got the nerf bat whammy, most of the professions were nerfed to the point that no one wanted to play them anymore.
Spacships? What's the point?
I will NEVER go back and will NEVER buy another product from SOE...

I have been posting here at MMORPG.com for many months. Out of the 200,000 (two hundred thousand) plus players playing SWG, here at MMORPG.com there are roughly 12 (twelve) bashers who post over, and over, and over, and... over.... the exact same thing. "I hate SWG!". Half of them refuse to post the exact reasons why they hate SWG. Of the ones who do attempt to to post their reasons why they dislike SWG - it turns out their reasons are o-u-t-d-a-t-e-d. They bash SWG with outdated information. With FALSE information.
Thus they are NOT posting for people who are thinking about playing SWG. They are posting biased, false, information to stroke their own egos.
1. SWG is first intended for Star Wars fans. If you are not a Star Wars fan, do NOT play SWG. You are NOT the intended target market.
2. SWG is second intended for casual gamers. People who have 1-3 hours free time to play per session. If you are a powergamer who plays 5, 10, 16, 20+ hours a session, go BACK to playing EQ. Do NOT play SWG. You are NOT the intended target market.
3. Ask only people who have played SWG within the past 2 months how SWG is like. Ignore all the bashers who say they played SWG in beta and yadda yadda yadda. No MMORPG in history ever remains like it was in beta.
More reasons why SWG is NICE:
- Every character can learn 3 1/2 professions at the same time. This allows Doctors to engage in combat. "Warrior" types to be able to heal theirselves (every try to play a Barbarian in EQ? ) This allows players to still get something done if they are unable to find a group - they are not forced to look for a group for hours in order to play. (EQ anyone? Especially the mid to high level EQ game! )
- All skills can be unlearned, and re-learned, as many times as you want. There is no such thing as having a gimped character, making a mistake. This allows role-players to actually create a character according to how THEY want. No forced templates. N0 being "barbarian #3341"
- There are absolutly no zones. Planets actually feel like planets. You can litterally go in any direction you want. Unline EQ, and even DAoC, in which after you travel for 5 mins or less you hit an invisible wall, even if you can see straight ahead. Ever zone in and out of a city in EQ? Or DAoC? Especially if you are in a group and 1 guy has a 56k connection, another has a T1, and another has cable?
- There is absolutly no safe place to hide! SWG PvP is as hardcore as it gets. (All it needs is PvP for landcontrol then it will be complete, on the level of AO). You fight another player, you either D-I-E, hide, or run away. No zoning garbage, no running into a "newbie city". SWG PvP is not for the weak minded. This is the most obvious proof that SWG is unofficially UO2.
- The different planetary atmospheres are incredible! From the beaches of Corellia, to the desserts of Tantooine, to the wastes of Lok, to the rich jungles of Naboo, and much more!
- OMG! A MMORPG in which a decently skilled player can KILL the NPC city guards! It is soo annoying in EQ, and even AO, as well as other MMORPGs, to get snuffed in .0000001 seconds by NPC city guards! You die before you even know what hit you! You have to be uber-elite level in order to last 30 seconds in a fight vs NPC city guards. I still remember the first time I killed a Coronet NPC police guard my 3rd month of playing. I don't mind NPCs attacking me because of my bad faction, but make the fight realistic, and last longer than .0000001 seconds!
- If you have not witnessed a blaster fight at night time in SWG, you are not a true gamer! The F/X are beyond dazzeling! The ground lights up, the nearby bushes, shrubs, light up. The realism is insane.
- SWG has the most various ways to play and have fun out of any MMORPG. One can join the in game economy without ever, ever, having to engage in combat. Become a muscian, dancer, archetect, doctor, store owner, and much more.
- The ability to sell items while you are offline. AND even while you are off adventuring, or doing other things! You get your own NPC characters who will sell your wares for you! You can even dress them in various clothing styles .
- The ability to mine resources while you are offline. AND even while you are off adventuring or doing something else. And there are numbers ways to obtain various resources - wind energy, nuclear energy, metals, precious metals, rare metals, various minerals, and more. It is actually a science in itself!
- Very little camping. The majority of spawns are non-static. No matter where you travel, monsters and NPCs will spawn around you, roughly at your level. No waiting in line for Uber-leet guild #19734 to finnish camping a zone/area/spawn.
- Realistic loot. You will not see animals giving pants, armor, helmets, cookies, drinks, gloves, money, etc... as loot. Humanoid NPCs will give clothing and money as loot. You get to skin animals for their bones, hide, and meat. Realistic loot baby!
- And much, much, much, more.
Is SWG the perfect MMORPG? Absolutly no. There IS a market for powergamers (catassers), there is a market for Level Based games, there is a market for loot based games .... markets which SWG is not intended for. BUT the positives easily outweigh the negatives. Which means SWG is so a playable game. It is possible to have fun playing SWG. And 200,000+ players are having fun playing SWG.

Ohhh I get it so it's all right for the bashers to tell someone who asks it sucks but the people who like it should just remain silent. That's a great way for the person asking to get an objective opinion great thinking...and I'm the one who doesn't have sense?
Let's see it doesn't suck because: The crafting system is the BEST out there. No one has a better crafting system. There are thousands of things to do, and a robust system for creating your own content. The graphics are great. It's a skill based system that can be configured to your playing style. You're not locked into one class and one set of abilities. Pick something you don't like, it's easy to change.
and the list could go on and on. The people that like it post what they like about all the time, that bashers are too close minded to actually listen to what was said.
when did I say you should shut up? You're intitled to your opionion. There are certainly a lot of good things about SWG, but over all it's just a bad game due to an unfun fighting system, huge conteuity errors, unbalanced classes yet a constant swingng of the nerph bat and then a re swining as well so that you never know what your character can o tommorow (which is why most people HATE SWG i find), broken content/classes,absent customer service and a rectly disonest develoment team. For me those issues out weigh the fact that the crafting system is pretty good. If its not for you then fine have fun...

there are those that post over and over but there are also those who don't and move on. There are farmore the 12 on the first page (if you don't believe me i'll find 20 and mostlikily wan't have to past the 5th topic). As far as why people hate SWG again your completly wrong most people don't hate it because the game is outdated, but the most common complaint is thzt the fighting classes are completly unbalanced and/or don't work as intended even now two years after release. The other common complaint is that the systems they used for jedi was completly unfair, flawed and ruined the game. If you think that people aren't explaining why they don;t like it then I suggest you get glasses or learn to read because it is all over these forums not to mention this thread.

Some validity to this, but most like myself state that they have played the free trial since and have been amazed at how little has changed

also another nice feature,
- There are absolutly no zones. Planets actually feel like planets. You can litterally go in any direction you want.
This is true too
- There is absolutly no safe place to hide! SWG PvP is as hardcore as it gets. (All it needs is PvP for landcontrol then it will be complete, on the level of AO). I disagree with this I think the PVP system sucks again because the classes are hard to balance, it is east to run away or I have had people just run and log out and log on to an alt and get their friends. There is nothing engaging about it at all
- The different planetary atmospheres are incredible! From the beaches of Corellia, to the desserts of Tantooine, to the wastes of Lok, to the rich jungles of Naboo, and much more!
It is a pretty game
- OMG! A MMORPG in which a decently skilled player can KILL the NPC city guards! It is soo annoying in EQ, and even AO, as well as other MMORPGs, to get snuffed i
I don't see this as being an issue...however most of the newer MMORG allow this.
- If you have not witnessed a blaster fight at night time in SWG, you are not a true gamer! The F/X are beyond dazzeling! The ground lights up, the nearby bushes, shrubs, light up. The realism is insane.
Like I said the game is pretty
- SWG has the most various ways to play and have fun out of any MMORPG. One can join the in game economy without ever, ever, having to engage in combat. Become a muscian, dancer, archetect, doctor, store owner, and much more.
there is a lot to do in SWG however with the exception of crafting (and even it to a large extent) most of it is set up my macro or cklick a button while AFK. Most of it is not done well.
- The ability to sell items while you are offline. AND even while you are off adventuring, or doing other things! You get your own NPC characters who will sell your wares for you! You can even dress them in various clothing styles .
again I don't see this as an advantage.
- The ability to mine resources while you are offline. AND even while you are off adventuring or doing something else. And there are numbers ways to obtain various resources - wind energy, nuclear energy, metals, precious metals, rare metals, various minerals, and more. It is actually a science in itself!
yea this is nice but harvesting is a huge time suck and hardly can be called fun for most people. More like a chore.
- Very little camping. The majority of spawns are non-static. No matter where you travel, monsters and NPCs will spawn around you, roughly at your level. No waiting in line for Uber-leet guild #19734 to finnish camping a zone/area/spawn.
This isn't true you can even see the spawns danggling in the air waiting to be droped. Many of the Mobs do have a large roam rate, but the spawns are limited and can be and are camped just like any other game.
- Realistic loot. You will not see animals giving pants, armor, helmets, cookies, drinks, gloves, money, etc... as loot. Humanoid NPCs will give clothing and money as loot. You get to skin animals for their bones, hide, and meat. Realistic loot baby!
this actually annoyed me too about other games...and it is a nice although not a serious issue for most.
To those who think I had posted this poll to bash SWG, I would like to inform that is not the reason. I played SWG for one year up until JTL. I also Beta-tested Jtl before killing my account. I simply wanted to know if JTL would save the game from itself.
There were several things in Swg that I loved. The PvP system was great until it required 1 million credit armor and buffs to do anything (or a jedi). The crafting system was cool, as was the Image designer. I loved the customizations available for characters. The skill system was also a very nice feature.
But after 1 year I could no longer deal with the numerous bugs in the game. I was tired of waiting for combat re-vamp. After all who would you expect to win a fight? a guy with a knife or the guy with the gun? But melee is the strongest professions in the game. Im tired of all the jedi grinders just to have the uber-l77t pvp master. Jedi are supposed to be rare not every 1 out 0f 10 players. I could go on for hours about the other bugs/ issues of this game, but you get the my point.
If you like this game still, good for you. I just want to know how my first mmorpg is doing. And i dont to troll through all the complaints and accusations on the Sony Swg forums.
Ok since you'd like this explained to you in detail, thats fine. BTW I'm not one of those 12 but I will say that SWG is a poor game.

This is a good point for SWG, but it doesn't make up for the lacks.

No forced templates? Only if you don't PVP and at the high-end you have 2 choices, craft or pvp.
Or DAoC? Especially if you are in a group and 1 guy has a 56k connection, another has a T1, and another has cable? actually they are zones, they are just much larger than previously, this is an extension of more modern computing power and reflection of when this game was written compared to the others. Locations like 7600,7600 (I might be off on my coordinates a bit, its been a little while) are the "invisible walls" on planets.
- There is absolutly no safe place to hide! SWG PvP is as hardcore as it gets. (All it needs is PvP for landcontrol then it will be complete, on the level of AO). This is the most obvious proof that SWG is unofficially UO2. Radar in pvp is silly, but beyond that jedi running into the water in theed and logging out is a relatively safe place if you ask me. A common tactic still in use today.
- The different planetary atmospheres are incredible! From the beaches of Corellia, to the desserts of Tantooine, to the wastes of Lok, to the rich jungles of Naboo, and much more! the art is straight from Star Wars mythos, as such I should expect this. However it's nothing better than a number of other recent games, but it is good.
- OMG! A MMORPG in which a decently skilled player can KILL the NPC city guards! It is soo annoying in EQ, and even AO, as well as other MMORPGs, to get snuffed in .0000001 seconds by NPC city guards! You die before you even know what hit you! I don't mind NPCs attacking me because of my bad faction, but make the fight realistic, and last longer than .0000001 seconds! yay, this makes total sense NOT!!, a single player taking down all the imperial guards in theed.. uhh yeah ok. Even in the Movies they AVOIDED this attention at all costs.
- If you have not witnessed a blaster fight at night time in SWG, you are not a true gamer! The F/X are beyond dazzeling! The ground lights up, the nearby bushes, shrubs, light up. The realism is insane. again this is a matter of the timing this was made, all this "special effect" had been done in other games by this time. The technology had just advanced to this point is all.
- SWG has the most various ways to play and have fun out of any MMORPG. One can join the in game economy without ever, ever, having to engage in combat. Become a muscian, dancer, archetect, doctor, store owner, and much more. Have you tried opening and running as a weaponsmith or armorsmith? And all the resource gathering etc that is required? Were you known on your server throughout the server? I was, and I know how tedious and aggravating it was to pick up your harvesters and plop them down on the next great site. How many lots were involved and how you had to get to an area fast or there would be 200 harvesters there in less than 3 hours? Oh yeah.. REALLY open to everyone /sigh. The time sink involved in this is over 8 hours a day to try and be competitive. As for the other professions, well entertainers are either buff-bots or people playing this game for glorified online chat. You try dancing as your profession and keep it for 6 months.
- The ability to sell items while you are offline. AND even while you are off adventuring, or doing other things! You get your own NPC characters who will sell your wares for you! You can even dress them in various clothing styles. yay back to crafting again.. other games now have methods of doing this, this idea was original, doesn't mean its the "best" way to do this. let's also talk about how me as a customer runs around to 30 different empty vendors all the time frustrated cause i can't buy a new helm or whatever. ohh yeah.. great system
- The ability to mine resources while you are offline. AND even while you are off adventuring or doing something else. And there are numbers ways to obtain various resources - wind energy, nuclear energy, metals, precious metals, rare metals, various minerals, and more. It is actually a science in itself! no its a timesink in and of itself. you aren't actually doing much here. And resource farmers will place 40 or more harvesters down at once.
- Very little camping. The majority of spawns are non-static. No matter where you travel, monsters and NPCs will spawn around you, roughly at your level. No waiting in line for Uber-leet guild #19734 to finnish camping a zone/area/spawn. this is a load of BS, the reason most things aren't camped is because they aren't worth camping.. ie don't drop any decent loot, the things that do (Krayts for example) are camped 24/7.
- Realistic loot. You will not see animals giving pants, armor, helmets, cookies, drinks, gloves, money, etc... as loot. Humanoid NPCs will give clothing and money as loot. You get to skin animals for their bones, hide, and meat. Realistic loot baby!
ehh.. so what? it's a game and last i checked I didn't forget that.
SWG suffers from continued hacks, continued exploits. The last one to hit big news was the cred duping. If you are just starting out, keep in mind in order to purchase anything like a suit of armor it will cost you 500k credits on a good day. The inflation is out of control with people having so many creds they spend them like water.
This game is entertaining for 2 types, crafters.. its the most involved and in-depth crafting system out there at the moment. And PVP gankers who seem to think that a turn based game where stats and armor and class type make you a god and has nothing to do with your skill.
The fact that you can master any profession in less than a week, and there are guides out there on how to do it. Doc buffs that just make you invincible.
The game was a challenge before doc buffs and 90% composite resists armor that everyone has now. But with those it's pretty much relegated this to the same as all the others, if you don't have xyz, you can't compete.
As for the galactic civil war, you can't affect it, bases serve no point other than ego, and the continous bugs and "wait for xxx to get fixed" calls from the devs about stuff that we were asking them to fix in beta still exists.
Frankly unless you like crafting or doing the same pvp raid for the 1000th time there isn't much here, it's a very superficial world that has a lot of glitter and little substance.
Let's not forget that 5 jedi running around in gank squads is totally in keeping with the lore of this time. Also the fact that the best pvp templates are Melee and not ranged.
Look at how many posters at MMORPG.com have posted in the SWG forums. Browse from page 1 to page 5. There are roughly 12 regular posters in this SWG section. Next, it is tooo easy to make multi accounts at MMORPG.com which is a 100% free gamer site. There is abosoluty no way at all to verify if the people taking the poll have EVER played SWG, or when was the last time they played SWG. I have caught many flamers, nay-sayers, posting negative things about SWG and that they have never ever played the game in the first place. (They grossly posted incorrectly how many servers SWG has, the names of the servers, and much more, etc...) Almost none of the (30 so far) voters have even POSTED in this thread LOL! And if they do/did it would be very intresting to see how many of them have a post count of 1. Thus, the poll is 100% flawed, inaccurate, and no idication at all of what the actual SWG community thinks about the game. Only what .000000000001% of former SWG players think about the game out of the 200,000+ players who play SWG. Since the poll is throughly inaccurate, then yes... it enters flame territiory.
Hey, wait up a sec before you say that everyone who posted was a bot. I posted, and i've been a member here for a while (off and on). I quit SWG once due to the fact that it sucked 7 months ago. I came back about 2 months ago and i'm already losing interest even after the expansion. "Go around and shoot stuff IN SPACE!!!" the glitches with the quests are kind of bothersome and may even prevent you from even getting anywhere (such as the "form up" command to control your allied ships that are supposed to help you, which happens to be broken). Of course, millionares are also a problem, but if you're friends with one it works out pretty well.... as most of us know, millionares are veteran crafters who started right when the game was fresh... glad i know one . I think this game's taking a downhill dive for the worst, and no revamp or expansion can pull it out (unless they get rid of the crappy click-and-wait combat and turn it into real-time or something more interesting... THEN IT WILL OWN ALL THE GAMES OUT THERE!!!! )
My 2.119 cents... or 0.11 rubles... or .01 euros...
Games worth looking at: Morrowind and all the expansions Anarchy Online Wish Everquest and any of its decandants Daggerfall (Good 'ol time-wasting 2D) Neverwinter Nights and the expansions There are more but i've seem to run out of space :P
Would have quit twice but second time i tried to activate my account the damn "lost my password" didnt work and i never got it so couldnt get back in but if i did i can assure you it would have been 2 quit's for me
My fatal mistake was to subscribe for a year. I played for 3 months since first day of retail and couldn't take the lag and bugs and lack of content and I can go on...
Then I figured I'll try it again after reading about mounts and what not added to the game. It was about 4 months after I quit the first time.
Played about a month or so. I became Master Pistoleer. Half the specials didn't work. No dev support. Pets kept disappearing. Pets kept running off. Lag in major cities was ridiculous. I can go on and on. I realised then I was swindled by Sony Online Entertainment for over $100. I consider them crooks for taking my money for a product that didn't work as intended.
That's why I'll never play a Sony Online Entertainment game ever again. I did want to try Everquest II, but thanks to Sony, I won't.
Originally posted by xplororor I have been posting here at MMORPG.com for many months. I'm a fan. And I quit the game after about 6 months. 2. SWG is second intended for casual gamers. People who have 1-3 hours free time to play per session. If you are a powergamer who plays 5, 10, 16, 20+ hours a session, go BACK to playing EQ. Do NOT play SWG. You are NOT the intended target market.I would say 1-5 per session isn't a powergamer. And again with the 'intended market'. Do you work for SOE's marketing bureau? No. Also, most mmorpgs try to pull in powergamers AND casual gamers. 3. Ask only people who have played SWG within the past 2 months how SWG is like. Ignore all the bashers who say they played SWG in beta and yadda yadda yadda. No MMORPG in history ever remains like it was in beta.Thats because they've only been playing *gasp* TWO MONTHS. After 3-4 you've seen everything, every planet, every npc, and killed every creature. More reasons why SWG is NICE: - Every character can learn 3 1/2 professions at the same time. This allows Doctors to engage in combat. "Warrior" types to be able to heal theirselves (ever try to play a Barbarian in EQ? ) This allows players to still get something done if they are unable to find a group - they are not forced to look for a group for hours in order to play. (EQ anyone? Especially the mid to high level EQ game! )Yep, but you neglect to acknowledge that to be a higher profession you are required to also get blocks in other levels. The Doctor proffession takes up basically 2 1/2 professions right there. - All skills can be unlearned, and re-learned, as many times as you want. There is no such thing as having a gimped character, making a mistake. This allows role-players to actually create a character according to how THEY want. No forced templates. N0 being "barbarian #3341"Yes, they can, and you neglect to mention you lose hundreds of thousands of xp along with it. There is a thing as making a mistake.- There are absolutly no zones. Planets actually feel like planets. You can litterally go in any direction you want. Unline EQ, and even DAoC, in which after you travel for 5 mins or less you hit an invisible wall, even if you can see straight ahead. Ever zone in and out of a city in EQ? Or DAoC? Especially if you are in a group and 1 guy has a 56k connection, another has a T1, and another has cable?Actually there are zones. This is the most obvious proof that SWG is unofficially UO2.Yes there is. A house, Jedi have used this to their advantage as an exploit to grind - The different planetary atmospheres are incredible! From the beaches of Corellia, to the desserts of Tantooine, to the wastes of Lok, to the rich jungles of Naboo, and much more!As stated before, 4 months into the game, you've been there and done that - OMG! So what? - If you have not witnessed a blaster fight at night time in SWG, you are not a true gamer! The F/X are beyond dazzeling! The ground lights up, the nearby bushes, shrubs, light up. The realism is insane. Most mmorpgs have surpassed that by now - SWG has the most various ways to play and have fun out of any MMORPG. One can join the in game economy without ever, ever, having to engage in combat. Become a muscian, dancer, archetect, doctor, store owner, and much more. Not all those professions can be marked as 'fun'. As stated before, ever play a weaponsmith or armorsmith? - The ability to sell items while you are offline. AND even while you are off adventuring, or doing other things! You get your own NPC characters who will sell your wares for you! You can even dress them in various clothing styles . Thats if your shop ever gets visited, also thats if you want to sell items offline, you lose 1 of your professions to it/ No thanks. And as stated before, hologrinding makes most player cities and other towns/cities into ghost towns. - The ability to mine resources while you are offline. AND even while you are off adventuring or doing something else. And there are numbers ways to obtain various resources - wind energy, nuclear energy, metals, precious metals, rare metals, various minerals, and more. It is actually a science in itself! It's been done before. - Very little camping. The majority of spawns are non-static. No matter where you travel, monsters and NPCs will spawn around you, roughly at your level. No waiting in line for Uber-leet guild #19734 to finnish camping a zone/area/spawn.You obviously haven't been playing SWG very long. You'll usually see the macro-campers outside of Cor. - Realistic loot. You will not see animals giving pants, armor, helmets, cookies, drinks, gloves, money, etc... as loot. Humanoid NPCs will give clothing and money as loot. You get to skin animals for their bones, hide, and meat. Realistic loot baby! It's been done before. - And much, much, much, more.
You either: 1. Have only been playing SWG for about 2 months or 2. Wouldn't know a game turning to crap each patch if it bit you in the ass.
i quit in feb but they change the jedi system so i came back as soon as i logged in i was 2 steps away from having the chance of a possiblity of becoming a jedi..... well at least the place isent filled with macro using afk toons now that helps the game out a bit
i plan on playing it an guild wars at the same time when guild wars comes out.
I quited it twice, first time just because I didn't find much pleasure in playing and returned to my first game AC2 (didn't want to buy a new game). After getting bored there I returned back to SWG to find out that it was just soloing and nothing more, bad for my bussiness as squad leader. Perhaps I return after they finished the combat revamp, but don't know for sure.
SWG have a great potential, as long as they balance the stuff right again. Full composite armor is a must have, and that is wrong.
"If all magic fails, rely on three feet of steel and a strong arm"
"If all magic fails, rely on three feet of steel and a strong arm"
I've just closed my accounts. I've played for a year or so, but every time there was a patch the game got a little bit worse. Jump to Lightspeed just seems to be the last nail in the coffin really.
I can't see myself ever going back to the game, to be honest I can't see the game being around to go back to. Even Coronet is empty now...
Someone posted earlier that Star Wars Galaxies is meant for Star Wars fans and I feel it my civic duty AS a Star Wars fan who knows more about the galaxy than he'd like to admit to any hot girl.... That this statement is utterly untrue.
Star Wars Galaxies, and its developement team, seem to do everything in their power to ignore the Star Wars theme created by all six films. The developers of this MMO honestly seem like the type who have seen each of the 5 (6) films once in the theaters when they were released, and then decided to make a game based on them ten years after they'd forgotten about most of what had occured in the films.
From the absolutely appauling attempt at mapping out Star Wars cities, such as Theed (Naboo) and Mos Eisley (Tatooine) to the complete ignorance toward bedrock Star Wars sound effects, like SWG's entirely wrong speeder bike sfx (and speed), to the various Star Wars blaster sfx that are completely wrong. To the continued lack of respect for everything in the films and otherwise. Nothing in the game looks like what it does in the films. They gave it a single coating of paint, and then let it dry with cracks and gaps. The Sarlacc pit looks nothing like the Sarlacc in Return of the Jedi and the same can be said for Jabba's palace, the entire City of Theed, to Obi-Wan's adobe, to the Naboo Hangar, to the COMPLETELY EMPTY Naboo Royal Palace..... so on, if its in the movies and in SWG, SWG gets it wrong, horribly and embarrasingly wrong.
And this trend of ignorance toward "getting things visually and audiably incorrect" continues in Jump to Lightspeed. In Jump to Lightspeed the Star Wars-lame developers create space backdrops of immense beauty loaded with nebulas and asteroid belts that truly do inspire one's eyes with tastey candy. Unfortunately, the Star Wars planetary systems featured in the game look absolutely nothing like their role models that are featured in the films. There are no sprawling, multi-colored, nebulas in Naboo, or Yavin, or Endor or Tatooine and even though the films prove this, the developers ignore this.
Then a true Star Wars fan can take pot shots at the fact that worlds such as Yavin IV, Endor and "Dathomir" are even in the cursed game. SWG was supposed to take place just prior to the destruction of the FIRST Death Star from Episode 4: A New Hope. With that said, the theme of Star Wars says that the HIGHLY SECRETIVE rebel base had just be abandoned on Yavin IV, an utterly worthless jungle moon in a remote gas giant system on the far reaches of the galaxy.. Yet, in Star Wars Galaxies, there are two STARPORTS on Yavin IV AND, worse yet, the Geonosian Bunker is on Yavin IV in SWG. So the Empire spent all this time and effort (destroying Alderaan) in order to find the Rebel Base when OH LOOK, its on the same planet that our Geonosian Camp is, yeah, the guys who designed the Death Star are spitting distance from the HIDDEN REBEL BASE.
This same argument goes for Endor. The location of the 2nd Death Star's creation, being included in SWG and also housing TWO starports in this wretched MMO. I won't go into great detail, but the very idea sickens me to the very core of my Star Wars fandom nature.
I think I've proven my point that Star Wars Galaxies is most certainly not made for fans of Star Wars, its made to steal money from Star Wars fans who are unable to admit that the game's failacies simply do not outweigh its worths. The idea that there are 200,000+ subscriders is actually assinine, to be quite frank, as well. I spent 6 months on SWG, and every-single-person-I-met owned 2 to 4 seperate accounts. I would wager that there are 100,000- subscribers or less, that are actually individual people. Less, I truly believe.
Coming from a nerdy fan who has played every-single-Star Wars-gaming-title-in-existance, Star Wars Galaxies is the BOTTOM of the barrel. It is the WORST Star Wars game in history and will ever remain that way. Its graphics engine is laggy, poorly designed and simply old already. Its combat dynamics are one-sided and unimaginative and simply NOT fun. The best thing about SWG is its social elements, where players gather in Cantinas to talk and relax together, but the saddest thing about that is that EVERY SINGLE CANTINA IN THE GALAXY IS THE EXACT SAME INTERIOR. You go into ONE city in SWG, you've thus been inside EVERY SINGLE CITY IN SWG. There are no surprises once you've seen one town.
Seriously, as a player of SWG and a nerd of the galaxy itself. Please don't play this game, its an abomination and has really left me disappointed that we real Star Wars fans won't get another shot at a good MMORPG...
I quit once. I quit when I was in the JTL Beta Testing and saw that Jump to Lightspeed was being modeled after Wing Commander and not the X-Wing Series of computer games from LucasArts. THAT was the last straw that truly broke my back. It was the pinnacle point where I could no longer handle the level of treatment that was being given to Star Wars fans. SOE/LucasArts... They really don't try with this one.
There. simply. are. better. things. to. spend. your. hard. earned. money. on. Please find one of those.
I started playing in June of 2003, never quit (though I did take a week break to play WoW Beta). The game is lacking in areas, but I (optimistically) think that the devs are trying to fix it. I do have to agree that this game is Star Wars in name but not in content though. The over abundance of Jedi and Melee classes being the biggest problem.
Well I've played SWG and that was a long time ago. I've been thinking about coming back and have tried one of the 10 days trials and I just was not interested. I was honestly hoping for capitals ships of some type to be introduced in JTL but just having figthers doesn't really interest me. So I have not come back and frankly they really should have left the jedi out of this game.
I'm not gonna comment on all the damn mistakes in the continuity etc. The poster above me hast mad plenty of them. I am a star wars fan a big, big star wars fan own most of the expanded universe. read most of the comics and have played most of the games. For an RPG this game just does not feel like a star wars rpg. There's just something missing from it. I took a 3 day break from playing SWG and bought Knights of the Old Republic after that I could never really go back. I tried but the sheer scale and story that Knights of the Old Republic had made it so I could not play SWG. The game has a lot of potential but does it realize it in my opinion no. The game seems to lack the quests and the fell of star wars. I think if the devs had picked a better time perido for the game like Knight of the Old Republic the Clone Wars and had some sort of advancing storyline that had some depth that it would rock but. I feel they are off the mark. Well I'll keep listening to new of SWG hopefully it will become the game that has great story like content that I dream of if not then I'll stick to City of Heroes I guess it's more for me with its story arc mission system.
Oh and ya the graphics of blaster battles at night is definetly out done by a group of heroes fighting archvillains and cleaning up mobs of villains with fireballs etc.
But if you like SWG more power to ya. I tried it didn't like it seemd to much like a job rather than a game.
I loved this game for the first two days, after that I found it was just more grinding, bugs, and everything that makes a bad game worse. And to be expected to pay extra monthly for that? I left and will never return unless SOE finaly goes under and someone else who is interested in gameplay and customer service takes over.

Damn, I didn't know RBEU folded shame, damn nice guild you lot were. Anyway, hope to see you in WoW, I've tried EQII as well and it's just not for me.

Uhh ok, so what do you find fun about the game besides the friends you've made online there?
One month of playing this game was enough for me.

Let's see it doesn't suck because:
The crafting system is the BEST out there.

- All skills can be unlearned, and re-learned, as many times as you want. There is no such thing as having a gimped character, making a mistake. This allows role-players to actually create a character according to how THEY want. No forced templates. N0 being "barbarian #3341"
No forced templates? Only if you don't PVP and at the high-end you have 2 choices, craft or pvp.
Or DAoC? Especially if you are in a group and 1 guy has a 56k connection, another has a T1, and another has cable?
actually they are zones, they are just much larger than previously, this is an extension of more modern computing power and reflection of when this game was written compared to the others.
You die before you even know what hit you! yay, this makes total sense NOT!!, a single player taking down all the imperial guards in theed.. uhh yeah ok.
Games worth looking at:
Morrowind and all the expansions
Anarchy Online
Wish
Everquest and any of its decandants
Daggerfall (Good 'ol time-wasting 2D)
Neverwinter Nights and the expansions
There are more but i've seem to run out of space :P
I did want to try Everquest II, but thanks to Sony, I won't.
notice how the SWG fans ask for specifics and when faced with them don't return to answer them? Which I might add are not outdated.
then again a maxim in sales is you can sell anything to anyone, just need to convince them they want it.
i quit in feb but they change the jedi system so i came back as soon as i logged in i was 2 steps away from having the chance of a possiblity of becoming a jedi..... well at least the place isent filled with macro using afk toons now that helps the game out a bit
i plan on playing it an guild wars at the same time when guild wars comes out.
