Hi folks,
This isn't something I would normally do.... I well know how sweet it was before the CU crashed our sandbox and I feel some camraderie for those of you who miss that style as much as I.
Well, there may be something that will appeal to those, who like myself, can only be happy in a sandbox... at least until an EMU is available.
You may wish to have a look at Fallen Earth. Yeah, I don't normally go in for a somewhat out of place plug and I won't do it again. But I am betting that the thing will appeal to a number of you.
My apologies if you find this somewhat out of place.

I could not possibly agree more.
What is EMU?
If you want sandbox, you'd want Earthrise over FE. FE won't even have player structures on release, and pvp is limited to certain zones. In Earthrise pvp is everywhere (some zones have more npc guards than others though) and territory warfare including guild bases complete with structures and defenses customized by the guild are promised release features.
You may be correct, but what is the release date for Earthrise? I'm more than a little tired of waiting for a decent sandbox to come along and FE looks like it will be out of the gate soonish. I plan to be there. Also, you may wish to review their faction system mechanics.... I suspect PVP may be common and widespread among those who work deep into the faction system. It IS just a little early to say that with confidence tho.
@Ahz: EMU refers to some of the SWG emulators under development, release dates uncerain, sadly.

MastHead has stated ER will release in 2009, current rumors put closed beta starting next month.
Thank you! I will be watching for that as well.
I plan trying FE until ER comes out. Play both and see which I like the most. I doubt ER will be out until Q$-2009 at the earliest.
Fallen Earth looks interesting to me as well. I hate waiting for games though. I think waiting for AION and Spellborn I have just gotten sick of biding my time. I no longer even follow those games.
Spellborn is a perfect example of a game that missed its Window of Opportunity. I tried it for a couple of days at the end of Open Beta. Before they announced that the "free play" got you to lvl 7.9 and to go further you'd need to deal with Acclaim's funky coin buying system (which, in the US at any rate, means Ultimate Game Cards and no special offers since they don't work with UGCs). Anyhow, it's an interesting enough game, I guess, but it's so same-ol'-same-ol' now. I'd much rather take Rohan or Runes of Magic as my free WoWesque fantasy. They just look a LOT better if nothing else. Had Spellborn been released a couple of years ago, with a sane pricing scheme, maybe it would have taken off. But now it's just a blip in the HUGE sea of fantasy games. And this year and next, we're due to see a whole group of NON-fantasy games arrive (finally).
If Aion isn't careful, they're likely to become as much of an afterthought.

"I know what you're thinking: 'Why, oh WHY, didn't I take the BLUE pill?'"
FE I guess is more sandbox than other games but it is quest driven. But you an always do scavaging and havesting and crafting. You can craft while fighting and questing and even while logged out which is nice because crafting some vehicles will take 3 or so days I hear.
I guess you could not do quests if you didn't want to, or just do random quests at random places. I think the PvP zones will be bigger once you get into 2nd and 3rd sectors but I could be wrong. But I am lookng forward to FE more than ER, because Im not a big fan of full loot but I do love PvP.
