Graphics are totally overrated. I played the trial on DX10 with everything on max and didn't see anything special at all about this game graphics.. and the animations are not all the great either.

I agree with you guys. This game sucks.
Ok so you aren't impressed by the graphics, so that means this game blows?
[Mod Edit]
Haha...did you just base the game on the graphics?
Anywho...yah these graphics are some of the best in any MMO right now. I don't know what you mean by the animations aren't that great...I think they are rather nice and fluid.
The spells aren't really all that epic, but they are still nice to look at.
Maybe you don't enjoy the artstyle?
But please...explain to me what you didn't like about the gameplay. I'm interested in what you have to say about the stuff other than the graphics.

Overrated: At launch...yes. Now...slightly overrated, but when the itemization patch and the new Tarantia Commons zone get patched in...it will be rated about right.
Overhyped: No doubt, but it seems like Craig is being more real with us than Gaute.
Overinstanced: Tortage is. The rest is better.

This thread is failing to entertain.
Graphics are never the total measure of a game, and truth is, most games have adequate graphics. AOC is no exception.
The game does have a lot of instances, but I still had fun playing it.
The game had some issues back when I played, I hear many have been resolved.
Some people enjoy playing, others don't.
OP was nothing but a trolling attempt, (and a poor one at that) not sure why mod didn't lock the thread down rather than edit it.

Compared to a FPS game it don't have that great graphics but this is a MMO. Mention 3 MMO games that looks better (that are actually out).
AoCs graphics, just the DX9 version are better than any other mmoprg to date with one exception. LOTRO, using the High Res client and partial DX10 features is also great, atleast the environments. The characters/mobs are still way behind. The DX10 version of AoC is untouched, even in its test phase.
That being said, graphics don't make a game good or bad. Instancing on the other hand can drive people away while others don't mind it. AoC is not the first game with instances.
I would also guess the people that complain the most about instancing are people that have never left Tortage. The zones after Tortage are much much larger.
Anway, some people like certain games, other don't... its the same cross the boards.
[Mod Edit]
Well stated.
What is funny is how many people complain about the instancing...I for one enjoy the instancing as it allows me to experience a story, and not just run around like a chicken with it's head cut off creating my own game. I buy games to enjoy the feeling of adventure that the developer created for me to experience. It also allows for the great graphics.
Guild Wars is still one of my favorite MMO based games (though many still argue it's MMO-ness), and the instancing is a true part of that game, and also the reason it rocked.
Not everyone will like all games. All we can do is enjoy what we have, and AoC is still my number one MMO right now...at least until Guild Wars 2.
Cheers
well just thought Id but in, Im currently playing the trial. The melee system is actually quite fresh.. although I knew that I just wanted to mention it as a fun part in game. Currently though I havnt left Tortage so my knowledge is limited but Il tell you of my experience so far.
The quests are ok, nothing remarkable, bad or good... theyr ok, the world is ok, not good nor bad.. its simply ok. I like the voice acting..
One thing I must say I detest to such of a degree I keep shuting the game down is the constant griefing and lack of grouping. I find it near impossible to find someone for group as most wont respond to whispers, they are simply not interested.. As for the griefing theres players waiting everywhere to kill you and by that I mean ofc players either grouped(same guild) or simply 5 or 10 lvls higher.
Dont get me wrong Im a used PvP player, played EvE a couple of years back and most recently WAR but so far the PvP is beyond bad. What differs WAR from AoC in this aspect is obvious, you cant kill your own race and you have different spawning zones and regions.. AoC does not. EvE solves this by making it terribly costly to kill a noob or low lvl in secure space, simply put its not something any player would do since it would cost him his own ship as well.
Im a PvP player that happily fights on equal or atleast possible terms and if too weak then atleat having the oppertunity to run/hide/whatever this however dont seem to apply to AoC so in a region which pvp is allowed so far underhalls/sands of blabla everyone is attacking eachother making it impossible to pve and for those of you whol just say get a group noob.. well for those I say Ive tried, but grouping doesnt seem to please AoC players, atleast not by my experience.
AoC has been my favorite MMORPG to date thus far and I've pretty much played them all (major ones anyway) since EQ in 1998-9. The biggest problems were lack of players and content.
I've never had so much fun in an MMORPG in PvE and PvP was a blast too if you knew what you were doing. I absolutly loved fighting 6--25 monsters at once with my Priest and winning and I loved the speed of health and mana regen so you weren't stuck waiting a half hour for either of those to fill back up like most MMORPGs. If this game had the amount of players that WoW has there's no reason why it wouldn't be the top MMORPG, but it didn't ever have enough players/failcom was too slow in content patching/ and currently there are hardly ANY players playing.
The people your referring to create permanent level 25s to keep on tortage and roll classes that are very powerful for that level. They spend their time PKing anyone that enters those FFA zones. The senseless ganking off tortage is nothing like your experiencing on White Sands or underhalls. Once you leave Tortage you will be much happier.
If your mind is set on rollong on a pvp server I would also highly recommend going to Cimmeria rp-pvp even if you dislike RP. There is a much more mature community there. Tyranny is known for being a rough server to enjoy leveling or even playing on. If your playing the trial, may want to try a pve server as well.
best of luck
AoC overrated? I doubt it, it has constantly been bagged by people because of the way it was at launch... the game has improved immensely and there is no info or reviews easy enough to find that relate to its current state... AoC is underrated if anything...
This kind of non-sense post is kinda old news, AoC is picking up momentum and the game is awsome, just another young teen who is probably playing the game that is bored....enough said...

which MMO isn't overrated according to the standards?
Darkfall? (HA!!)
LotRO? - closest to not being overrated....cause no one seems to be hyping it as the game of the century.....
WoW? - always has been overrated by the fanbois
I think AoC is underrated a bit. Was bagged on a lot but IS great looking and fun to play. Just don't think it has any staying power for me.
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."

You say WoW is overrated? And AoC is underrated? Thats funny. Look at the facts and statistics man. Look at how many active paying subscribers WoW has, then look at AoC. Do I need to say more? No
And with this logic McDonalds make the best food....
Second Many try to give impression that the servers are empty; not true after merges;)And with the trial; I had to turn off global since it was so busy I did not manage to follow any of the importants channels(guild/tells etc)This will prob normalize after the newness of the trails have settled.
I dont buy the graphics over gameplay speel either... since AoC I couldn't go back to the usual mmo combat system, AoC's combat is a lot of fun and looks great even when you watch people duel...

Have seen on fury a huge amount of new names in global chat tho, but it seems to me like there is many who just came back to the game, they asking about where to go level since they are 30 and just returned to the game etc. Have probably helped around 20 people this weekend with questions and such, and few of them was trials as they wanted to know how to get out of tortage and such. But I was under the impression trials couldn't use global chat is this not the case?
Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom
Totally agree, while the game looks nice, i don't really care for the gameplay all that much. I played early access and quit, then came back a couple months ago and still didn't like it even though lots of issues were fixed. The problem is, it wasn't the bugs and memory leaks that did the game in, it's the game itself. I think the gameplay was an after thought to the combat system and pvp. Nothing really great about this game, just the same old MMO with a new skin and combat system.
I do agree with OP's animation comment though, i didn't care for them either. Well, i also agree with the fact that some people are gonna like it and others aren't going to but that's up for the person to see for themselves. It's good there's a 14 day trial now so that people can find out on their own now.
-cheers
I tried DF recently and the ranged combat was good, but the melee didn't give me the feeling I hoped for, and I guess I don't really have the patience to play such a game as Darkfall. :P
However the combat system in AoC is one of the things I love, melee combat feels good and fast paced and it really gives me a feeling of being in control of my own character. In WAR I felt it didn't matter what I pressed, like I had no direct control of my character. This feeling I get from AoC and that is a good thing.

I find it hard to go back to other MMOs now too as the combat there is just boring compared to AoC. The gameplay is the same as any other MMO + the Aoc melee combat system, so for that reason I would say it is generally better.
Ofc if you dont get on with the combat system then maybe not so, but at least you can role a mage.
However i doubt that AoC will ever be main stream, so it is OK not to like it (graphics and/or gameplay) but that is down to you and not the game as AoC is what it is.
On a side note it seems that the rug has been pulled from under the feet of the AoC trolls, as now people can see for themselves what the game is like in the trial instead of reading the troll's 1 year old info on the state of the game. And they are left without a leg to stand on.
This game is definetaly not overrated (it was at launch, but not anymore).
After several patches It is presently one of the best mmo's on the market, and the OP and his following alias posts reeks of bitterness (aka botched launch syndrome).
Life as an AoC-flamer is getting increasingly difficult... Lousy graphics? Seriously, if you want to flame the game try to at least make it look like you made an effort.

Graphics and gameplay is relative and a matter of taste.
Some people hate WoW, some people love it. Some people hate AOC, whilst others love it.
One person saying that it blows does not make that true for everyone.
I hope the OP finds a game that more suits they're tastes. Meanwhile the rest of us will carry on enjoying AOC.
