Hi, I'm new to MMO somewhat, and need to know which one I should start playing.
So from everyone, what is the best MMOG? Give me the reasons. Also keep in mind I want to play with minimal lag, I got a P4 1.7, 512 RAM, G4 Ti 4200. So if you do recommend a game, give the system specs u recommend as well.
Somethings I am looking for though are not having to play a month to get into the good part of the game, and I want to enjoy killing things.
Thanks anyone who donates me some reviews

Best MMORPG?
EVE-Online has to be as its the one I'm playing joking aside there is never going to be a best and everyone has very biased opinions going by what they like and dislike really.
Well if you want to enjoy killing things go for a PVP game as Pk'n is the most fun really and always different where NPCs are grind, best thing to do is look around check forums and decide for yourself.

Ill second that EvE is the best atm.
The sheer number of things to do is amazing. Its a big universe and a lot of skills to learn. The new expansion is just going to make this game even better. As far as im concerned after Nov.23,2004 all mmo's will be playing catchup to this one for a long time. The new expansion will have player owned and maintained stations.Corporations owning solar systems and territorial intergalactic wars will make this the best out there.Go to EvE-online.com and read about the new expansion.Your all about to see the population in eve go up even more.
EQ2 and WoW dont EVEN hold a candle to this game. Both of them are just the same rehashed mmo's that have been coming out for years and years.Want to play something unique and challenging?
Then those 2 are not it.Go ahead and flame me i dont care. After you are done flaming me name ONE thing in either game that HASNT been done in the last 5 years in the genre.
I can name one thing in EvE that is significant:offline skill training.
Want to ENJOY an mmo?
Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.
Just play the damn game:)
I'll check out Eve, :P
Remember new ideas in games aren't what make it good or not though, it's how things are put together. It's like any new game, either it's awesome or it's not, and even when it's awesome there is always a design flaw. So I like new stuff, but more importantly you have to like a game that has limited bs in it, but that's a rare find :P

wow, k now u bastards
I was looking for a game to pick up for x-mas vacation. This thing looks addicting.
Any hoot, is it hard to play this game, like does it take a while to get a ship, to learn things and what not, or after a week can u be cruising around having fun?
Thnx :P still dunno, but if I don't want mideval/magic this thing is sweet, looks like everything Galaxies was spose to have, is in Eve, cool.

I would stay far away form EVE. The learning curve is very steep and you won't enjoy yourself as a complete noobie to MMOs. You just flat-out won't enjoy it very much.
Topping that off, to answer your other questions, due to the "cool" off-line skill training it will take you a minimum of two months (real-time) before you can really outfit yourself with the proper skills to go "cruising and have fun."
Before that you may lose a few starter ships trying to fight npc pirates, or some corporation may notice you and grab you up as a mining mule. Mining is the foundation of the game for a new player.
In all honesty, I just don't recommend it because you're new. The tutorial isn't very extensive and once you're through that you'll be scratching your head about what to do next. Attaching yourself to a corporation is the only option if you ever hope to progress in the game by aquiring better ships and equipment. And by "attach yourself" I mean you must become one of many proverbial "whores" as no one in power really wants to do the grunt work required to maintain operations.
Now, I recommend that you try out World of Warcraft when it releases next week for the following reasons:
-Very user-friendly
-Won't have to wait to "get to the good stuff"
-Plenty of stuff to kill (since you mentioned that)
Seriously, I'd hate to see one of these "more experienced" MMO players sucker you into EVE which is more like an economic simulator than anything else.
it seems there are some options missing...
if you want a game with a good community, where you can get to the 'endgame' in about a month or 2 play, try Asherons Call 2.
Its a nice game, with a very good community. Personally i thought it was a little bit too simple, but with the new expansion coming things might get interesting.
my first choice is Finfal Fantasy 11
I am playing this game for a year now. I must say, its still beautiful, and if you like final fantasy games, you sort of know what to expect of the intense game feeling. The game is easy to learn, but difficult to master. Killing stuff can be done at any time, but XP'ing after lvl12 fairly party-dependent.
Other choices are EQ2, WoW and Eve. My second choice would be EQ2, since i like that kind of game, but i have decided to stick with final fantasy for now.
If you are into saturday morning cartoons or the muppets, then WoW is the game for you. It is entertaining but it just lacks something. I see WoW going the way of CoH, great at first but the lack of depth will be hurting it.
Only saving grace is its PvP, that will keep the l33t d00dz busy for a few more months til the next game comes out.
Well sure its a daunting task to get up and going but isnt that the case with most any game?
But ill tell ya this much, with all the new features coming out this game is about to be VERY noob friendly.I personally have been playing for a little over 2 months and have not been in a corporation at any point.Ive only done mining twice as it is the easiest way to make isk.
Sure its a challenging game even more so than most mmo's on the market. But hey if you want to play the dumbed down, cookie cutter games where most everything is handed to you on a platter go ahead.
The new expansion will include the ability to have more player created content that is meaningful than any mmo currently around. In EvE your not just building towns your staking your claim and protecting your territory. The fact of the matter is i think most companies are afraid of attempting to build content like this and put it into a game.New ships, new strategies, and a lot of things for the soloists to do as well.
Ive played a lot of other mmo's and they all offer nothing new or different. If you want to play a game that is just as rewarding as it is challenging then EvE is your last stop.EvE is about to be the front runner with this new expansion.
So come on and build an empire.

OMG, go play eve and fall asleep for the rest or your life, or go play some wicked free/pay games which are fun and keep you playing like ragnarok maplestory pristontale, those are perfect and fun for beginners...
My system is close to yours in some ways.
P4, 1.8, 512 RAM, and gForce3 Ti200...... and WoW plays exceptionally well on it in the default settings. Relatively quick levelling, easy to learn, and you get to kill LOTS (pvp or pve).
For the last month, the only way I could play SWG was to turn down ALL graphic settings, or just plain turn them off. Everything looked butt ugly.
In reply to Josjikawa, where do u play Ragnarok? I got this pRO server, used to have a 1000 ppl playin all the time, many screw ups, theres like bout 300 online now all the time but kinda laggy... hopefully the screw ups are fixed soon :P
I hear Everquest 2 sux if you don't party, Warcraft is over done, anyone who plays it does not luv warcraft because if u played it enough u would go nuts with the same useless dribble they keep doing, the storyline is no different in WC1 than WC3, Ur a race, u gotta save ur ppl from the evil race..... But I guess WoW may do well if it's fun....
I think I might stick to Ragnarok because it's a free server with hundreds, hopefully a 1000 ppl soon enough. I would post it's link, but till server runs smooth don't want to fill it up even more yet.
Thnx peeps
