Oh god I am so sick...the flu - help...

TealaTeala Member RarePosts: 7,627

I feel terrible.  I haven't felt this bad in years.   This flu has just taken all my energy and it is hard to keep stuff down.    I am living basically on saltine crackers and orange juice.   Anything else just makes my stomach to upset.   Last night I was running a fever of about 104.   I've been in bed most of the day.   God this really sucks.   My roomie has no answers and I am trying to keep her away so she doesn't come down with this stuff.

Does anyone have a suggestion for fighting this thing.  I have tried all the store stuff like Theraflu, Comtrex, Ni-quill the works and nothing is helping.  I have tried chicken noodle soup but it didn't stay down long.  Gross.   I am thinking about going to the doc to see what he can give me...but I am not sure they can do anything, at least that is what the ask a nurse woman said to me on the phone.

Someone help me!  OMG!  Is there anything I can do other than letting this thing run it's course.  I am suppose to work tomorrow night andI was suppose to work tonight but couldn't make it because of this yucky stuff.   I may have to miss tomorrow unless someone has some ideal of a good home remedy.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Kristi - sick girl in bed.

If you beleive in folk remidies, a shot of vodka will help kill whatevers causing the problems :P

Other than that the only help I can suggest is lotsa showers/tubs/sleep

Usually I take vitamins when i think I'm getting ill.  Heard something about Vitamin C being really good in particular.  For food, maybe try yogert.  And don't take too much or too many different cold medicines.  That stuff isn't mothers milk you know.

Well that stuff is not instant. Keep taking the cold stuff. Drink thura-flu and stay in bed and get lots of rest. That's the best thing you can do so your body can recover.

Ibuprofen (easier anti-inflammatory on the stomach) and cold, wet wash cloth over the face or a cold shower. (lowers heart rate- heart rate increases 10bpm for every 1 degree above normal)  It will make you feel a little better for a little while.

Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise.

Poor planning and scheduling, you are not actually supposed to be sick when you call into work sick.

Look, when you are as sick as you are, the day is shit anyway, so you might as well go into work, and save the "flu" excuse for when it's warm and sunny out.

After all, why waste a sick day when you're actually sick?

Have/are you able to go to the doctor's for antibiotics?

Last time I had the flu I was out of commision for about a week, maybe 2, can't remember exactly.

But if your still having symptoms, especially a fever, then really i would suggest resting at home for a few days. I don't believe theirs any healthy instant rememdy for the flu.

as for the reccomendation of antibiotics. Don't...

Any time you can avoid taking them, avoid it because they dont always work. After using them too much they become usless and its better to save them for when you actually need them rather than just to pop a pill for the sake of making yourslef think it helps.

As for vitamins, any of them are going to help you recouver if your deficient, but if you can't keep anything down, it might irritate your stomach to take a suppliment. If you can, thats great your probably missing out on some vitamins what with not eating and all, but dont do it untill you can handle it.

Heh, going to get a flu shot next year Teala?

I got mine, and my brother said "I never get the flu anyway, why bother." Well, this year he got the flu. Now he's miserable, and swears he'll be getting a shot next year.

That may be pulled from the shelves in the very near future ... It can cause permanent damage to your sense of smell.

and to whoever said anti biotics .. that is for bacterial infections not viral infections ... Honestly the adivce I have seen on this site is disturbing ...
