Try Ryzom. It has a very deep crafting system and a largely player driven economy.
Afterworld claims to be this as well. www.afterworld.ru
ty. ill check em both out
EVE.
Eve. The game is about player run megacorps and PvP between them. The economic system in the game were designed by a Professor of Economics and it shows.
"You are the hero our legends have foretold will save our tribe, therefore please go kill 10 pigs."
i suggest EVE as well...... how many mmorpg companies employ economists on their staff to monitor the in-game economy?
Playing: EVE Online
Favorite MMOs: WoW, SWG Pre-cu, Lineage 2, UO, EQ, EVE online
Looking forward to: Archeage, Kingdom Under Fire 2

That's because CCP has a vested interest in manipulating the EVE economy mechanics since they profit directly from selling game time cards which they encourage to be traded in-game for in-game currency.
One of the Roma Victor developers is an economist because that game was designed around a RMT model of selling in-game currency.
Also SOE employed a former IGE executive to develop and promote their RMT models.
EVE reputedly has the most complicated economy. Puzzle Pirates has a substantial economy, though not as deep as it used to be. The games you cite as having played aren't known for having much of an economy--and I know from personal experience that WoW doesn't have one.
x3 regarding EVE - that said, if you would like a free 21 day trial key instead of the normal 14 that is offered on their website - send me a PM.
Definitely check out EVE. Extensive skills and tools to support trading and manipulation of the market. They have excellent graphs and historical data ingame as well as an Economic Newsletter in PDF form.
- RPG Quiz - can you get all 25 right?
- FPS Quiz - how well do you know your shooters?
Ryzom has decent crafting, however I wouldn't exactly call the economy vibrant.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Yeah, as said already, EVE is the only game with a -real- economy. PvP and heavy item loss drives the economy. Players can make a profit by playing the market. Supply and demand is a real thing in this game, and they have a man with a Phd in economics working for them to monitor the game's economy to make sure changes they implement don't drastically alter the market.
There's a demand for everything, from the crappiest noob modules, to the most expensive tech II, faction, officer.. etc. fittings and ships. The sheer size of the game allows the market to be different depending on where you are in the universe. Go to one region and something might be dirt cheap. Go elsewhere, and it costs a small fortune. Smart players can transport goods and buy low, sell high elsewhere. Players can even find areas untouched by mass production and make a fortune selling needed supplies in that area.
EVE has been mentioned a lot. But I gotta agree. The crafting/gathering/stock market aspect of the game is very very fine-tuned. Having 250,000 people playing in the same universe really makes supply/demand risk/reward work very well.
