OK so I recently quit WoW after four years worth because I'm not really finding it fun anymore, I'm somewhat getting into the F2P MMOs...played a couple but I have not played them all, I think only three. So now I'm kind of sitting here not really knowing what game to choose. I have a list of what I played and enjoyed in each MMO I played which might give you a small guideline on what I'm (and hopefully other people that read this topic) looking for.
WoW - ...I'm actually having a hard time on this one. I guess the amount of people playing it was pretty nice, and the bosses were fun because they all felt unique to each other. The bosses going into phase + unique tactics was kind of good.
Warhammer - Trial. I would probably be playing this but I crash to desktop after about an hour of playing. I REALLY love the White Lion class and how it's synergy between master and pet worked. The PvP was pretty fun too, I wish I didn't crash to desktop...
CoH/CoV - I still like these (got CoV for a penny, never will forget it). The ability to be a superhero is a nice break from the fantasy MMOs that seem to dominate. I can't really get far enough though because I always want to level a different class once I hit like level five (so many choices...).
Age of Conan - Trial. Somewhat liked it, the gore was a nice break from the more cartoony stuff but none of the classes really appeal to me much though...and that just spells disaster.
2moons - This is one of three F2P MMOs I tried. I really loved the action this game had and the armors/weapons, everything just looked cool. I was planning on going back but I've been reading about how Acclaim is running it into the ground and how you can lose characters and stuff, not something I would look forward to.
Atlantica - I'll probably come back to this one soon, I had some fun with it and I'm not really at a higher level (level 11 I think). I just feel a little less MMO and more Strategy Game with Others Walking Around. Maybe it's due to my level. The timing thing also kills me because I'm somewhat slow (but that could be because I'm getting used to it).
SMT: Imagine - I just logged off this game. It was alright, nothing special so far. The pet system seems clunky to me for a pet-based game. I will probably try it again later, but for now I rather try something else.
So yeah, for the TL:DR people, a quick overcap.
1) Population so I don't feel like it's a single player game.
2) A good pet class that makes the pet feel more like an ally instead of a tool.
3) Action, Action, ACTION! I want to at least look cool when doing the same moves over and over.
4) Cool looking weapons/armors.
5) Some type of raiding would be nice, and/or a good PvP system.
Thank you for your time and opinions. I am open to either F2P or P2P (like the topic states) so any choice I will be willing to look at.

Retired WoW hunter here, if you find a game with a good pet class let me know.
I didn't enjoy WAR, but I too enjoyed the WL.
ahh perfect world has pets as of now runes of maic doesn't have ones that fight. I had a necromancer in pw and the pets are cool. Should try it.

Hello
I also played WOW for a while (hunter class) but a new game has caught my attention lately which is Ether Saga. Ether Saga is all about your pet and each class has a pet, you can even fuse with your pet so that it can share damage with you. I played PW as well for a long time and have a lvl 84 Werebeast but found the Ether saga is much more entertaining than PW and the grind isn't as bad as they have daily events where you can get good xp. It's also free to play with a item shop so if you don't like it, you havn't lost anything beware this game has a very cute anime theme but graphics are damn nice.
Hope that helps.
Sounds good so far, downloading Ether Saga right now. I'll try Perfect World and Runes of Magic tomorrow. Thank you for your inputs. Keep them coming.
-(F2P or P2P, depending on which version you go with) Monster Hunter Frontier would qualify for 3 and 4. It has a really robust real-time combat system. Problem is that unless you speak Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, you'll be stuck using translation guides for the game. Personally, if you can put up with not being able to understand what's going on in the game (if you can't speak one of the above languages), the game will be totally worth it.

-(F2P) Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online would qualify for 2. I haven't played the game myself, but it I heard it has a really good demon/pet system for all types of character, regardless of what class you are.

-(P2P) My personal favorite, Final Fantasy XI, which qualifies for 1, 2, 4, and 5 (the raiding part, not the PVP part). The population is around ~500k, and you constantly need to group in order to accomplish anything. So I guarantee it won't feel like a single-player game <_<. It also has a well designed pet class called Beastmaster, in which you can control monsters through either jugs (which summon different types of ally monsters to you), or through taming random monsters that you see anywhere. It sounds pretty basic, but I'm too lazy to get in to the details. There is also quite a bit of "raiding" (not really called that) in the game as well. The armor/weapons have really great designs as well.

-(Both B2P and F2P) Guild Wars would work for 1 (kind of), 2, 3 (kind of), 4, and 5. What I mean by "kind of" for 1 is that while the population of the game is huge, the game is heavily instanced. It'll feel like a single-player game a lot of the time, because unless you're in a group with other people, or inside a city, you'll always be alone. Every zone outside of city areas are instanced, and the only other people you can see are you and your companions. The game has an amazing companion system called heroes and henchmen. Basically, henchmen = NPC companions at your disposal that you can use whenever you want. There is a henchmen for every class in the game, so there's quite a bit of variety when it comes to them. The hero companions are much more detailed though. Where as henchmen are temporary companions, heroes are permanent. You can get heroes through quests, and then obtain them as permanent allies. At that point, they become like a second character. You can change their armor/weapons, or whatever.
While the combat system in Guild Wars is turn-based, the attacking animations are fairly quick and nice to look at, which is what I meant by "kind of" for 3. The armor/weapons also look really good in Guild Wars, too. There is also a ton of raiding in the game, and PVP as well. In fact, 50% of the game is raiding something in someway, and 50% is PVP. The game really has a nice balance between PVE and PVP.

I would say try Aion in china OB, it opened today (if you can get an account). there are about 500 english speaking players there. SpiritMaster is the pet class. They have about 50 servers up and running but there packed full of people. Meh, up to you really.
My spiritMaster with fire pet
My Tank
For a F2P game I would say Requiem, They have a pet class and it's a good game for being free.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
ooo more suggestions.
Thank you both. I'm liking this list I'll be going through tomorrow. Right now I'm probably going to head to bed. Don't be discouraged to add more opinions people! Hopefully my LFGame topic will help other if they are looking for the same thing (which in turn means less topics! Win-Win! :P).
I'm an ex WOW junkie too. I started MMO's in the 90's with Ultima Online.
I've recently been trying the F2P games. Dungeon Runners seems to excel in this category. It has great Diablo style combat with a slew of dungeons. DR is shameless in how it "borrows" from other games, and at times, even pokes fun at them. I love the humorous approach they often take. I haven't been around in a few weeks, but the communtiy seems to be doing well. The towns stay busy.
I just started playing Wizard 101. I'm outside the age bracket for the target audience, but I'm having fun so far.
Another game worth a look is EQ2, good community, lots of content and quite nice graphics. Here are some screnies (taken by me, all settings high):
This game is really worth a try, it have changed a lot since release. Free trial 14 days and then you don't have to buy it, just start paying monthly (but you wont get the latest expansion then).
Another three to look at.
I actually played a trial of EQ2 awhile ago but I forgot that I even did. I'll try it out again. I'll look at DR and W101 also.
Thank you for even more suggestions, I'm sure I'll find one soon. :P
