I'm looking for some opinions on paladins in WoW. I didn't play one in the OB and I didn't see many either. So, if you played a paladin long enough to develop an opinion, I'd love ot hear it.
Screenshots and videos are necessary for first impressions, but what you can't see in them are the things that matter the most.

Well I did not play one and I only grouped with one, but I am not sure if this paladin was just geared well or what but he and I wiped Yowler by ourselves with no problem. And it was more him than me because the gnolls died so fast I could hardly believe it. He was carrying a nice weapon and i cannot remember anything about it as far as the name or the damage.
He asked if anyone needed it and he had already intended on doing it by myself and I am not exaggerating when i say he could have done it by himself. Yowler in himself isn't hard but the fact that we took on yowler + 3 gnolls at same time was amazing because they all died so fast thx to him.
Once again this may have been due to gear but it did peak my interest in the paladin as well.
I played a Paladin to level 20, and I will definitely be playing one in release. They are tough, and get nice buffs, and the ability to heal and rez.
I read somewhere that a level 60 pally beat up a level 60 warrior on pvp, and still had 80%mana, not sure about that though.
Overall, it is a fun class to play. Have fun

Paladins are a bit overpowered currently, what you see now will not be their current state. The Paladin will be the best all around class for about a month after release, if not sooner, untill they get the bat.
As of now, they are the hardest to kill in pvp, for a few different reasons.
Their stuns last too long, Their ability to cast divine shield, which renders them invulnerable to all attacks, but still have the ability to cast spells. Their heals are too powerful.
This is what happens in an average fight between a random class vs a paladin.
Both start out in combat, paladin stuns.. gets in quite a few hits. The attacker starts landing more attacks than the paladin, draining the paladins HP. Paladin casts invulnerability, heals self once or twice. The fight resumes, and if the attacker can manage to get the paladin back down reasonably low in hp, the paladin uses LoH, if it's up. Paladin wins, end of story.
This is the very same scenerio in EVERY fight vs a paladin. I've seen paladins shred through groups of 3, all within the same level range. that's not right. I've seen a UNARMED paladin own warriors who were fully equipped with good weapons. That's not right.
Have fun with your paladin, but don't expect it to be what it was when you started the class.
Yeah what your thinking of is an Infamous video that show a Paladin Beating a warrior (both level 60)
with JUST her fists, while he was using a Dreadforge which is a very powerful high level item. Although some believe that it was "Faked" to an extent because of many diffirent reasons.
1. He wasnt "dancing" around the pally like he should have been
2. Certain points in the video the pally goes to heal and the warrior just stands there.
3. The warrior doesnt seem to use many of his special moves.
4. Its also hard to tell wether or not he was actually using a Dreadforge because the Dreadfoge has a blue glow to it (some say they see it in the video, some say they do not)

It doesn't matter I'm sure they are going to balance it out in a few hundred years.

I disagree with the assertion made above that Paladins are overpowered.
I played a Dwarf Paladin and managed to get to level 33 in OB. I was lucky enough to have good weapons and equipment.
With a one handed axe or hammer (I tried both - the highest dps in game for my level), I could hit for around 50 a time, +20 with seals (I did crit from time to time, but not that often). My Warrior partner was hitting for at least three times that much and often critted for 500+ with styles / stances. My armour / defence was better, but only by about one third more. As we had the same armour, the only difference between us was the shield and the devotion aura.
Divine shield is nice, but you don't get it until level 34. I used the divine protection spell when I was low in mana and running for my life, and it did often get me out of trouble. But this spell does not allow you to attack or use physical abilities.
The main problem I found was that, even with the highest mana regen buff, three heals and I was out of mana. Also, the heal was such a long cast that it was often interrupted, even with the highest level focus skill.
The long awaited Paladin talents were a bit of a let down for me. I originally intended to go for holy. I was hoping for a talent which would decrease the heal cast time. In the end, there was so little to tempt me in the holy line, that I decided to put my points into the retribution line. Looking at the talents, it is my opinion that they were rushed and not very well thought out. They also seem mixed up, with a buff at the bottom of the retribution tree for example.
The blessings were nice, but what a pain to have to recast every 5 minutes. This really runs out quickly. I got really fed up of having to recast over and over again.
I still intend to play a Paladin in retail, as I like the mix between tank / damage dealer / healer. I am hoping that Blizzard revisits the Paladin, not to nerf it, but to streamline the spells and talents, get rid of some and make others more usable.
The Paladin is not overpowered. I played one to level 16 during the OB and loved it. The abilities are too weak to be relied upon on a regular basis. The best thing the Paladin is good for is grouping, allowing others to gain a benefit from the aura. The heals and rez are long cast time spells and with the little mana a Paladin has, it will not go a long way.
I would've been beaten in a duel by a Warlock but he ran outside the duel area. I didn't get close enough to be effective.
YEah the paladin may seem overpowerd to may. I also know that they have some powerfull stuns and shields, but if I come to combat with a spellcaster class i am DOOMED. Becuse then he/she hit me for LOTS of spells, and cast some slow moving spells, then divine auroa(imunespell) is useless. Finaly when i get to the person i have little mana, 75% health and some stunns attack. Then the person runs away from me casting slow moving spells, so i die. When I got to combat with a warriro he beat me with little Hp left. So play and warrior are quite like alike.
Now fro the mobs. If I get to combat with more than 2 same lvl mobs i usaly die, i can get out alive if a start runnign at the second. If i meet a spell caster, and he sees me and hit me with may spells i also die. SO paladins are not so good. ONLY AS GOOD AS YOU MAKE IT TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah deal with it, or else

they only seem overpowered because u compare them to warriors as they are closest to a warrior like class.
Warrior is underpowered so paladin may seem overpowered. Warrior definately needs fixing. it has no DPS, cant solo very well at all, has no quirky abilities, cant survive in contested pvp at all. Gets Pwned by ALOT of classes (i know).
So Paladin is ok but warrior is underpowered. Its only use is a meat shield... *sniff*.

I share your sorow Neas, and i know what i speak of. I playd the warrior a bit, and without many heals from a fellow priest, you are DOOMED for an eternity
Yeah deal with it, or else

On Open Beta because i had played a warrior before and i knew that all that matters to a warrior in a group is armour. I went crazy on getting good armour. I had a 500 armour shield at lvl 21 (Kresh back blue item) and total armour value of 1500.
I used Defensive stance pretty much always and used shield block and taunt. Nothing else. Still the party LOVED me because i took 90% of all damg and survived. This is prob an ok build but my problems are the fact Warr is just this: a meat shield a tank and nothing else. It cant do well in offensive stance at all. And in Pvp Shamans, Rogues, mages (screw polymorph!), warlocks, paladins, even druids would kick my ass. Only class id win against would be hunters as you could close the distance most times and hamstring them and beat them weapon vs weapon etc.
But thats it. If you get molested while in contested area while you are soloing you have no chance of escape against anything but another warr *crys*
This is why Warriors are hard to find because generally speaking end game wise they aint that good for fun value as you cant beat anyone in pvp and find it difficult to solo.
This why im being rogue at release. Who cares i dont get mail or plate i still have some nifty abilities and DPS.

Neas. The def stance warr you were playing was indeed a meat shield. This does not mean all warriors are meat shields. I had a buddy with a warrior that whopped just about everyone's butt if they were around his level. Don't know if it was his straightforward style or what, but he was so quick to react and attack that casters could never end their first spell without being interrupted. Charge in battle stance is an excellent way to ensure this and kick off combat... you just have to use it before anyone else starts attacking you. After this, battle stance warriors can pummel casters, that is interrupt their casts, every ten seconds. Berserker stance warriors can intercept (3 sec stun) casters, which is even more powerful than charging (1 sec stun).
Def stance is primarily PvE, not PvP. Def stance can be good when duelling rogues, but if you wanna go PvP, a battle or berserker stance warrior can be an excellent choice, you just have to react to what your caster opponents are doing. Pummel works well on pallies as well. You can disable those heals easily.
i played a paladin and i generaly think thayr somewhat overpowered. i didnt play anything else but i can asure you that in a fight i can fully heal myself incombat 3 times with the emmunity buffs.
just cast heal and keep fighthing lost health again. cast the secound emmunity buff heal and there you go again with full health...
dont think alot in this game can top that.
