Will my system run WoW smoothly?

I have a P4 2.4 Ghz with a 64 MB video card and 512 mb of ram.  Can I have all of the effects turned on nd it will still run smooth?

I would so no to (all effects turned up to the max)... because of your low memory, but your processor is fine.  Do you know what bus your memory is running @? SDRAM, DDR, or DDR2?  I mean you'll definitely be able to run the game smoothly but you'll get choppiness on full specs.  Im running a:

    Intel Pentium 4 Processor w/ HT Technology 530(3.2Ghz, 1MB L2 Cache, & 800Mhz FSB)
    160 GB SATA Hard Drive
    1 GB Dual DDR2-SDRAM Memory @ 533MHz
256MB PCI Express x16 ATI RADEON X800 XT

and I run the game very nicely w/ hardly any lag or choppiness at all.  (Of course you dont need a Hard Drive of 160 Gigz either but Id say get @ least a nice 128 MB GeForce video card...  Im not to fond of Radeon's 128 MB Video cards.)

    My memory is DDR

Go buy another 512 DDR chip @ Best Buy or Circuit City(or any other computer hardware retail store that's in your areas) that's running @ least 433 Mhz

Are  having all of the effects turned up to the max really going to make a difference in how much I enjoy the game?

  • EtroganEtrogan Member Posts: 28
Well definitely a simple answer to that would be NO!!!!!!! lol...  The game is too fun to worry about running it on the highest setting... but that is jsut my opinion. :)

no not really. I have problems on my laptop and I turn everything down to minium and play at 800x600 and it doesnt make that much of a difference. my max fps is 15-20 and the game is still playable for me.

    hp pavilion ze4420
ATI IGP 320M -128MB allocated from:
    512MB DDR
    AMD 1.5 Ghz

cool, so, the default setting for this game will run smoothly on my PC then? image

Id want to get a better video card but I dont think you will have much problems...  You'll definitely experience choppiness in areas where there are alot of people (in major cities and such), but that usually goes for everyone anyways...  But I think you'll do just fine.

    Probably, yes.

Wow, that's awesome!  I was worried because it practically takes a jet engine to run EQ2 smoothly.

    Windows® System 98/ME/2000/XP OS:
    800 MHz or higher CPU
256 MB or more of RAM
32 MB 3D graphics card with hardware transform and lighting, such as GeForce 2 or better
4 GB or more of available hard drive space
    DirectX® 9.0c or above
A 56k or higher modem with an Internet connection

Those are the required specs. but truthfully only two things on here might be a problem. a fast enough internet connection and Dx9. Lag is a pretty big problem, but it should run fine on your system

I have a cable modem.  I'm sure that helps.

What would you guys reccommend getting first.

I am on a buget, so I can only get one thing at a time.

    512mb DDR pc3200 Ram -81$

    OR

    Chaintec Nvidia 5900XT -183$

    Currently I have 512mb of ram, and a geforce 4 Ti4200

My second computer that I use, I installed WoW on to see if it would run it for retail. Its a

    P3 930 mhz
    448 mb of ram =P
    Geforce 2 64mb

Anyway, with all the settings on low, and at 800x600, it actually was playable, except when there were like 4 or more spell effects on screen at once, that lagged it a bit. I should also mention though that I'm running on a personal modified windows system, so windows is taking up almost no memory at all.

You'll definatly be able to play the game, you'll definiatly be able to have fun. Just that with a memory upgrade and a video card upgrade, you can have more fun, because you will be able to do raids and you won't lag as much through towns or populated areas.

first all, you have enough ram and the processor is fine. The Video card should be fine but i would like to know exactly what it is.. such as radeon 9000 or geforce4.

You do not need 1 gig of ram for WoW, dont listen to the guys telling you to buy more. the 512 you have now is more then enough. A video card upgrade is something to think about but im 90% sure whatever you have will run max setting just fine.

You have to realize WoW was designed to run on a wide range of systems.

I played during beta with a

PIII 800, 32 mb ATI Radeon 7200, 512mb ram and the game ran fine for me at default settings.  Might hit a few slow spots going into heavily populated area's, but just while they loeaded, then it ran fine again.

Considering that WoW's graphics are about 5 years outdated I would think that a P3 750 and a Geforce II with 16 megs of memory would be enough to run the game at about 40 FPS.

    I miss DAoC

budget guys, go at least 512 mb ram, and a radeon 9800 pro (about 175)
    if you cant wait.

If you can wait, buy an !agp! ati x700xt

    ones buying a new rig,
wait 15 days and buy an athlon 64 nforce 4 or ati xpress 200 chipset motherboard and a athlon 64 3500, 939 socket, and get dual 512mb low latency ram
and a pci-e version of x700xt or geforce 6600 gt

Shit i'm bad... I self educated myself in ways of controlling feelings, now nothing feels like it's true... gotta be an assasin or sumtin.
even "WOW! YOU'VE GOT A GREAT EQUALIZER" gives your everyday fanboi an erection araound here so watch your mouth :D

You could run probably about mid-graphics I would think. My old old PC (1.7 ghz with 64 meg and 512 ram) ran perfectly smooth on low and I never even tried increasing them. In retrospect, I probably should've.
