It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
What things do you think are currently beating a dead horse in MMORPGs, and what are some things you'd like to see introduced or used more often?
Things I find over used:
- Similar Fantasy settings. I wouldnt mind fantasy games so much if they were at least fairly different, but they're all the same.
- Turn-based, boredom inducing combat
-Elves, Dwarves and Humans. Lets see some new races!
- Fairly limited, or straightforward games... I want more games like EVE, UO or GTA that generally dont limit you in things you are allowed and able to do ingame.
- These crappy things games try to pass off as a "quest", I dont consider "bring a letter to my friend" or "Kill some crap and bring me whatever they drop" a quest.
- Level system
Things i would like to see more of:
- Real-time strategic combat, I think D&DOs combat system is shaping up to be pretty cool and mix it with the strategic element of Guilwars.
- Original Races and unique game worlds. How about more focus on cities, civilization and less focus on traditional fantasy forests, and more than 'Orcs, trolls, wolves, zombies, skeletons and goblins' as enemies.
- Involving quests, where the player makes decisions which shape his alignment and characterisitcs, factions and the decisions they make in one quest affect which quests are open to them later.
- Skill based system, more like UO, less like EQ/insert clone here
- More realisitc gameplay. I dont want to have to whck someone in the face with a sword 1000 times before they die. I would also like to see more emphasis on eating, and real world routines but implemented so that it adds to gameplay instead of detracting from it.
- Mini-games, everyone loves mini-games
- Bigger worlds, maybe not DnL big, but bigger than some of these games which you can run across the entire continent in about an hour.
- More character customization, and what you do ingame effects how your character looks, such as with Fable.
Thats about all i care to think of right now

I think a vast part of the MMORPG community enjoy game based turn.
Real time action, I dont play any of those games myself more then 1 day or 2.
I already dislike the ''real time'' component of the MMORPGs, make it pure real time and you lose a vast amount of players.
Make me think and relax, dont make me stress all the time.
Game based turn players are, generally speaking, a MUCH long term subscribers then real time action fans.
1 does not exclude the other completely however, some class can be to 1 way or the other, some zones can be to 1 way or the other...it only require a little more work from the devs!
New races are cool, not at the expense of the favorites however.
Skill based would be GREAT for solo(can work with or without level but no class there), while class are great for grouping, 1 game can have both system, in fact, it prolly motivate many devs MUCH more then what the leadership of the company usually ask them to do.
- "Solo is, will always be, the main market. A MMORPG that succeed with little or no solo appeal is doing great considering they are ignoring the main player base.''

You obviously didn't do any PVPing.
