In the same release that he posted today he said that they were checking logs for cheaters too, and that no single thing would get somone banned they had automated checks AND actual GM checks on people.
How much you wanna bet they won't just ban people outright and will investigate them a little bit.

We will take WoW for example because it has the most subs on this planet.

I am willing to bet at least 2million players of wow have a character mapped name such as mine. Odds are that number is much higher, cause when I used to play 3 of 5 players names were character mapped.

Character mapped names are even harder to report than I's and L's because unless the player engages in chat OR you actually know all the commands for character mapping. You prolly can't report them.

So you are going to sit here and say 95% of those 2 million players are hackers?

It's ridiculous and your argument is ridiculous.

I am all for banning hackers. I wish they would. Just do it the right way, by actually researching the logs to find the hacks the player used, get some evidence and then ban their ass.

Don't ban someone cause his name is IIiiIiiLegolasiIiiIIii.

Willing to bet is just as much proof as my 95% percent.....

You didn't add anything to the table except more speculation and Heresay.

Please post information rather than speculation.

Oh and if his name is IllIllILegolasIllIllI

BAN!    I hate people who cna't think up a real name and just steal everyone elses ideas and tack on a bunch of random letters.

    XxxMarioxxX  <-- Example.

People like this need to think up an actual name that is THEIRS, just like all the folks who have "RastlinMaj" as their name or

"Drizztxx"  crap this like makes me hate MMO players who can't be origional.

    BUT

On what grounds? That's right because you don't like it. Not because they are cheaters/hackers, simply because they didn't use Trogdor and not Trogdorxx.

    Brilliant.....

What did IIIIIILegelosIIIIIII do in regards to cheating? Nothing, but you don't like his non-original name so he deserves not to be able to play alongside the rest of DFO even though he paid his money just like you pay yours.

Banning these folks is commendable.  People who name their toons 111llllllii1ii iii111i11 are up to no good.  That would be like someone walking into a bank with a ski mask pulled over their head.  They are either too stupid to legally enter into a contract and thus play an mmo or they are up to mischief where they know if caught they will be punished.  Zero tolerance is the best.

I think you missed the tone of my statements

My personal belief is people with names like that shouldn't  be allowed to play for one since using Legolas is against terms of service on WoW even because thats a copywritted name...

As are all the characters that I listed off...  They are trade marked and its against the law to use them, and against terms of service too.

    As for the IllIllI  statement.

Yes, ban people who have names that are intentionally missleading or confusing for the intent to hack, investigate them first?  Sure!   Put them on a short list to be investigated YES PLEASE!

    Ban them out right?   Maybe.

Now if you enjoy using copy written names and breaking the law, that is entirely up to you.

Edit: Incase you missed it the grounds of me not liking people with the name Legolas is the fact it breaks laws, and terms of service.

I just don't understand the Logic in post like this.

Yes zero tolerance is good with the proof of a hack. Perma ban, go for it, if you know they did it.

Saying that 111llllllii1ii iii111i11 is up to no good is like saying don't go into an elevator with a black guy, he is going to mug you.

It is a sterotype gamer fantasy that all players named 111llllllii1ii iii111i11 are hackers and "up to no good".

My logic is, ban with sufficent proof of cheating and hacking, if you don't have it, then leave the player alone.

If ADV searches out players named 111llllllii1ii iii111i11and follows them or logs show a hack ban them.

If not and you just HAVE to have them change a name, don't ban the poor dude, give him a rename box and ask him to change it. If he refuses, change it for him. If he quits for that, then oh well.

Stereo typing players based off a name makes you just as ignorant as the players with the stupid name.

Go to the DF forums, read the posts where people complain about multiple people pulling this trick off and getting away with it, multiple people using IllIll  IllIllIllIIll  blah blah blah in their name

or worse the ones who are like MiMorgMondiMorg DiMorgiMorgDiMorg.

There are screen shots and videos of these players obviously hacking /exploiting

So they should NOT treat people who are using these names as potentially hostile / rule breakers?

If 30 people run into a store with masks on and two of them start shooting think the other 28 might?

Would you atleast issue a warning to the other 28 saying your watching them?

    I would

Dude just stop typing, your just digging it worse and worse for yourself.

Mario -> coupled with a Italian Plumber avatar that can bash bricks with his head -> Trademark of Nintendo

Legolas -> coupled with an image of Orlando Bloom holding a bow with fruity braids -> Trademark of LotR

Marioxx -> couple with a blood elf paladin in T6 armor -> trademark of Marioxx player of whoever in the hell wanted to call himself Marioxx

IIIIIILegolasIIIIII -> coupled with Night Elf hunter in T4 armor -> Trademark of IIIIIILegolasIIIIIII some dude with a night elf mohawk.

Using a name with some letters at the end is not against the law.

If I had trademarked "Skydragonren" and some guy comes in and uses the forum name "Skydragonrennnn"

Those 3 nnn on the end make it a different name, and he didn't break any "laws".

    Dude just stop.

Permanently banning people for this is ridiculous...

Probably because anyone who tries to name their character 1l1lil11l will just keep trying other "broken" names. Aventurine can't free up five minutes for someone to update one page of HTML, you think they have time track down each name change?

Basically, anyone doing that is holding up a big sign reading "I am a hacker or an asshole." What sane company WOULDN'T ban people like that?

(OK, Aventurine's entire target audience is hackers and assholes, so I can see why this would be a problem for them...)

Your argument is riddled with "dude just stop."

    Stop what?

Look a majority of people visiting the forums agree with the choice to ban people who have names that are intentionally misleading and your on the other side, so your desperately attacking my character rather than facing the actual facts.

Using a trade marked character IS against the law, I'm sorry that your not a lawyer, I'm not either, but I do read Terms of Service and I've had a friend banned for using a name that was in a book before.

So until you get your legal degree kid, why don't YOU "Dude just stop."

I really don't see the point in continuing this conversation, you clearly have your mind already made up.

Go log in to your character XxLegolasxx and have a blast until someone reports you and you gotta change it.

    Peace out.

Oh, and remember when people said, "Oh, you don't NEED all sorts of rules! People will eanr good or bad reputations based on their names so you'll know who is cool and who to avoid!"

    Yeah.

    How's that working out?

Is there any emotion finer than schadenfreude? I don't think so.

I am not saying do not ban I!I!I!I!I!I IF you have the proof of the hack or exploit.

I am saying that banning someone just because their name is !I!I!I!I!I!I is stupid.

When you can prevent such things simply by doing the right things on the developer end.

You are asking a player to delete a character when he very well may in fact NOT cheat. That is bad business. What is so hard to understand about it.

Now if ADV is going to look up players with !I!I!II!!I names, send a GM to follow them in invisible mode, witness the hack or pull logs that prove the hack, then cool, good for ADV I commend them.

Just seems as though ADV isn't going to take that route, and instead be lazy and ask anyone who doesn't have a "normal" name to delete their characters. Which is nonesense.

Not that I need another reason, but this is simply one more reason I would no way in hell give this company money.

Too many games out there that are fun to put up with the idiocy I see coming from this game almost daily.

Sorry you all payed for this travesty.

If you had been reading the actual Forum posts that Tsaos posts rather than just responding to the responces, then you'd know that they do investigate.

He's been saying they have both an AUTOMATED and a MANUAL investigative system.  One is the computer checking against you and one is actual people.

So yeah, I'm willing to bet they followed that guy around until he cheated and then they banned him WITH GREAT VENGANCE.

OK, I just wanted to make sure, because for all the posting you are doing, it sounds like you think you have first hand experience with what is going on in the game on the ground.  So the truth of the matter is that you are one of the many people who try to find negativity in every single post, and pass themselves off as an expert, but doesn't actually play.   I think there is a name for people like that.

The people who actually play Darkfall know these people are out there and are up to no good.  Your analogy I quoted is beyond silly.  A player makes a concious choice at character creation to make a name that is hard to type out deliberately.  This is not a court of law by the way, it's a video game.   For all the rage I see, I find it laughable that all of this comes from someone who has never set foot in Agon.

    1. I do have a degree, a very nice one, looks nice on my desk at work.

    2. I am not a kid.

    3. noone is attacking your character, but you are wrong on name laws. Whatever in the hell you think a name law is.

    4. I don't know how many times I am going to have to prove you wrong before you just stop making yourself look like a... well n/m.

    We will start simple.

Donkey Kong - Trademarked - you know the big gorilla that throws barrels.

Donkey Konga - Not Trademarked - notice we added an a

Sonic - Trademarked - The sega hedgehog and also a fast food eatery.

Sonicx - Not Trademarked - notice we added an x this time.

Link - Trademarked - Legend of Zelda series - Nintendo

Linkden - Not Trademarked - and actually used in World of Warcraft to start the - "It's a secret to everyone" quest.

Does that sound familiar? It should it is from Zelda 1. Linkden should also look familiar in the game cause he is a gnome in a green suit with a cute little hat just like the real Link.

How did Blizzard get away with this? Easy changed his name to Linkden, which YEP YOU GUESSED IT! Isn't trademarked.

Need I keep going or are you still going to argue with me?

What are they doing wrong now? Banning players who uses IIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII as their name? or maybe astaohifoashtoeahp? What's so bad about this? I mean do you really expect to become friend with a player called haryatgagaga? Have you ever seen a player called this way and did not use any hack? (excluding high level players who does not have to hack anymore as they have reached max level).

I mean seriously....it's the first company that ban those stupid people for obviously hacking. For people who say "what if someone has illi as his name?" Do you think Aventurine is dumb enough not to make a difference between a real name and IIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIII? C'mon. As for others who are crying about this matter, why does it bother you? Is it because you also use such name and hack?

Oh...before you start calling me a fanboy.....No. I am not and I do not wish to buy this game either for various reasons based on many mistake they did BUT for once I must say that they have made the good choice of banning those assholes. I just wish more companies would take this path too.

As for people who say : "Yeah well they could just program something to rename character" Why? So players can hack, grow stronger and then change their name to erase all trace? Choosing IIIIII IIIIIIIIIII as a name is more of a curse than anything else....don't allow them heal this curse.

    Glass houses man...

Ban for hacking yes...name? no...a guy named Ray can hack just as easy. A guay named an appropriate fantasy name like Deverous The Foul can decide they might as well hack to keep on a lvl playing field so they can compete..

That is a rediculous comparison.  Do you play Darkfall?

Paragus, you couldn't pay me to play this ridiculous game, you guys are missing the point though.

You are acting like DFO is the first game to encounter hackers OR players with jacked up names.

DFO is the first MMO I refused to purchase. I can tell an extremely bad game when I see one. AoC I tried but after the fact. On a free trial, I wouldn't waste money on that garbage either.

Anyway I don't have to play DFO or be an expert to know when a policy is fubar.

ADV hasn't done anything to date that was right that I can tell. Like one other poster stated, they can't even take 5 minutes to fix a website, do you actually think they are going to investigate !I!II!II!!I's playing habits or check his logs?

Odds are the answer is no, and so !!I!I!I!I will be banned for a name.

I don't care how you cut it Paragus it is wrong.

For a player of your supposed calibre, if you can't see that it's wrong then it is a sad day indeed.

Skydragonrenn  doesn't play Darkfall... I stopped paying attention to him after that.  rofl

everyone is entitloed to an opinion but I would value someone's much more who actually plays the game, is a guild leader, and does writeups over a poster with no play experience surfing message boards

Defending people who intentionally use stupid names to disrupt gameplay or abuse mechanics means that either you're to dumb to realize why those people are doing it, or that you're one of those people, or that you're just trolling. Make your choice.

Ok explain to me how !I!I!I!I!I!!I!I who doesn't cheat is affecting your gameplay.

If he did that would be different. Let's just say though he does not he is legit, just has !!I!I!II!!I for a name.

How is he affecting your gameplay or abusing mechanics?

I can't think of a single thing in game that his name is going to do to affect you.

He isn't bothering you, just running along looking to kill players and get loot like you.

    How is he affecting you?

    That is what I thought.

When a president signs a bill or makes a law, I do not have to be a senator or in politics to know what it says or how it will affect the people.

Paragus playing and me not playing really has nothing to do with the OP.

The OP was simply about banning names.

My stance is, ban if you have proof, but to ban from a name is not so good.

Paragus stance is, well I am not really sure what he is thinking. I would hate to think he thought it was ok to ban a player without knowing if the player was hacking or not. Who knows.

I really do not see what my not playing a game has to do with understanding what a developer is intending to do?
