GRAPHICS - We'll go ahead and get this area out of the way first.  The graphics are very similar to the original EQ prior to the graphics upgrade.  For those who insist on nothing less than the very latest graphics, you can quit reading now.  This game isn't for you.
My toon ran in a semi-squatted position, making him look like he didn't have any buns.  I sure this would be devastating on a female toon.  :)  Collision detection is spotty; you can run thru a huge tree but not other things.
WORLD ENVIRONMENT - We're going to lose some more folk with this area.  To my surprise, I found that the world is almost all instanced; think Guild Wars.  You have an area that has vendor, quest and crafting NPCs where players will congregate.  Questing will require entering one of the several instances that open from this main area.  Also, you can't go everywhere you can see, just like in GW.
I encountered some environmental effects such as day and night cycles, and the occasional rainstorm complete with thunder and lightening.  This added to the ambience of the game.  It would be nice to have some ambient sounds added, such as birds chirping, etc.
QUESTING - This is the area that I was most looking forward to as it's what I consider to set "old school" and current MMOs apart.  So far, the quests are the typical kill X mobs or go talk to a particular NPC.  Unfortunately, for me at least, the quest tracking system was not working correctly.  Apparently the "QUEST Count" tracker is easily confused and will track the wrong number of mobs being killed.  For example, I had two quests, one to kill 100 deer and another to kill 25 boars.  When I started killing the deer, the Quest Count started at 1/25 (remember the quest was to kill 100 deer).  When I got to 25/25, I received the message that I had completed the quest and to return to the quest NPC.  When I did that, the NPC said that I hadn't completed the quest, and to make matters worse, my Quest Count was reset to zero, so I lost all credit for the deer that I had already killed.  Also, it appears that you can have only one quest at a time and if you take more, unpredictable things happen.  Hopefully this is something that is easy to correct.
MUSIC - I thought the music was appropriate for the game and quickly blended into the background.  It didn't seem repetitive to me at all.
PERFORMANCE - I knew that the requirements would be low for this game, so I installed it on a backup gaming computing that has an Intel 1.6 Ghz dual core processor, 3 Megs of RAM and a 8500GT/512 Meg video card.  The only performance problems that I had was when other people would be present in the starting area, I would sometimes get lag when they were fighting mobs.  I assume this will be true in other parts of the game, but I never saw anyone after leaving the starting area.
As yodablaze has stated many times, FS is not a game for everybody.  For me, I'll probably continue to play it as my secondary PvE game behind Vanguard.
Hopefully this brief summary, based on my first 5 levels of gameplay, will be of help in deciding if you want to try the game or not.

Not a bad overview. One note: The fighting quests are not yet persistant. If you log out, you will have to start that quest again and thus it will not record your previous efforts. Knowing this most members simply make sure to complete their quest before they log out. I believe this may have been the problem you were facing. We will be updating this in a future patch so that fighting quests are persistant.

How long does it take to get the email? Its my off day, and was hoping to rock a bit. Been waiting quite awhile for the email, though.

Looks like I was a bit slow in spotting this thread!  I would have been interested in playing at the intro price, ah well those are the breaks :)

I am really trying to like this game.  I am on a trial account.  Here are some troublesome things:

Movement is awkward.  Why didn't you use WSAD like most other games?  Mana and HP do not recharge...this is really weird.  Also, there does not seem to be a point where a mob quits chasing you (I had boars chasing me from one end of the playing area to the other).  The graphics are ok....but the movement is very awkward.  I will keep trying the game and give updates.

Well, hope you do like the game in the end, you'll get a feel if it's the right game for you or not.

    A few basic notes:

    1. You start with an inventory of mana elixirs and healing elixirs as the game is dependent on this for combat survival. Simply go to your inventory and drag and drop those items into your user bar slots.

    2. There are other ways to regain health and mana. You are given a skill where you can use healing meditation and mana meditation to regenerate. Every player has this skill, it is called: Yaphorus Novia. Simply go to your skills and right click it and drag and drop into your skill menu.

When you first run the client you can change the keybindings for most everything so you could set it up to use WASD movment rather then the arrow keys.  I know I did.  Probably would have stopped playing right then and there if I couldn't.

Is there a free trial now? If so i'll give it a go. Depending upon my experiences there will depend upon whether I part with my $40 or not.

  • yodablazeyodablaze Member Posts: 234

If you didn't receive an email, simply try it now as it should be instant. Also check your junk email as well.

I must admit I am a bit confused too, I have checked the site and game forums but can't see any sign of a trial,  would be good to hear for sure if there is one.

So I was thinking about buying this game last night but didn't, found out this morning there was a coupon code that ended yesterday for 9.95? Grrrrrrr.... I'd have bought it for that for sure, but for $40 I'm not as likely :-( I came across Fasaria World because I was looking for an MMO to play after years of not, my last was CoH... maybe there is something like this that isn't as expensive? (even tho no month fee...)

I don't know of any other than Free to Play games of course. We don't have an item mall and there are no monthly fees. You can always try the trial to see if it's the game for you.

Can you buy games like this used after a while? Maybe a dumb question, I've never purchased a used MMO game or account, but curious. I'm not in a hurry to play, just can't afford the full price right now.

I never heard anything like that before, but no you can NOT purchase this game used.

Just an update. We've been busy at work with some major changes. We have something pretty big in the works so we simply hope that everyone who supported us hangs tight. Things are looking good. We have a price change for our game that went in effect today as well. We have no item mall or shop and our game is a one time payment, no monthly fees or micro payments. We want to keep our game fair.

As for the many players that supported our project,  thank you. We are making major strides for improvement and we have taken many helpful suggestions and advice to heart.

EDIT : Okay apparantly not pro according to RC forums, i REALLY hope you guys plan on upgrading everything when they release the professional version! I'm sure the game is fantastic but i really can't justify spending money on something that has been made from a third party engine (a rather poor one at that).
Maybe when you've utilised all the extra features that come with pro i will try it.

Third party engines are the reason most indie game makers can ship their product. First time game publishers don't have deep pockets or dozens of programmers. Affordable third party game engines allow them to enter the market, make some money and then expand from there.

As was previously posted, you would be surprised how many games you are currently playing were developed with third party game engines. Why does it even matter? If the game is good who cares what it was made with? Also what does it matter what features the game engine has? This is just silly.
