so.. I was playing Darkfall..

And I have to say.. I'm not that impressed.

the world is huge, with few spawns.  It makes it feel empty. I do like the look of everything though, I think the scenary is nice.  The combat is Meh.. It's not the variety that's lacking, it's the purpose.  In AC you kill to get loot (at a certain level) and in DF is feels much the same.

I didn't PvP as there really wasn't much purpose yet, no point to control a spawn.. no town control.. no loot control..

I'll keep playing it for the rest of the month and let you know how it goes.

If you paid money for it, I hope it turns out that you enjoy it.

I'm not sure why you would have spent money on something you have posted against so many times in the past, however.

Maybe you were given the account or playing on a friends?  If that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised if you were simply seeking hater-credentials.

I'm stumped that you actualy bought the game after all your posts here

In any case the game is enjoyable in a good active clan, solo is asking for trouble simply put

    good luck

I like the game for what it is. I wish it had an alignment/pvp system like EVE, the balance of Guild Wars, and the draw distance of Fallout 3, but it's still decent in my opinion.

Lol...don't you guys get it?  Most people on these boards usually bash Darkfall  because they haven' been able to get a hands on the game.   Once they get the game, they'll probably hate less.

But I agree with the OP, the wilderness seems empty most of the time.  At the same time, it gives Darkfall a strange, mysterious vibe.  Everything seems so quiet.

never bashed darkfall.. I've only posted negative things against the fanboys, AV, and Tasos.. I've always had the intentions of buying the game.   It's the only way you can decide if you like something or not.

EDIT: Although I'm leaning further and further away due to ping.  It just makes the game.. not all that fun.  it's an Real time where.. ping actually makes you dead or alive.

I hover between 140-150 ping and I kill EU'rs all the time.

You've been playing for what... a few days?

When you get good, you'll realize it's not ping making the difference 90% of the time.

Now, granted, when you fight someone who is on exactly the same level as you... yes, they will win if they have an EU ping.

    Cool.

(The world has many, many spawns. You do need to hunt them, but you will most likely find a few spanws within a couple minute radius from anywhere you are. Some spawns only spawn if you hang out, a bit. My best advise is to look for ruins and such and just hang out a bit.)

    One question:

    What is "loot control"?

And nice to hear you have tryed it : )

I would suggest you get in some action (sieges, ambushes, sailing).

That's the thing.. my ping is 250+ generally.  that extra hundred ping makes a huge d ifference.

Loot control is the ability to control a specific thing or resource to keep your opponent from getting it.  For example a single spawn of something.. or something that drops an abundance of a resource, while it's sparce everywhere else.

Hey Random! if you rolled a human we can play later. It would be the very defination of irony, and it would be boring not to do it.

  • Random_mageRandom_mage Member UncommonPosts: 1,093

    I'm playing from Puyallup WA

And I rolled a Alfar.. which is something I may change.  I'm not a fan of the starting area as one of the goblin camps is sort of .. in a huge ravine.  The troll spawn is nice though, I have to say I haven't been able to find it 3 times..

Oh.. and it seems that where I may the comment that, a certain fanboy, who generally states that anyone who doesn't like darkfall isn't worthy of playing it, wasn't worthy to post on my thread was edited.

I get about 150 ping as an alfar from Cottonport, Louisiana, which is out in pretty much the middle of nowhere. I'm hoping to get better ping when I get back home from spring break though and I'm probably going to reroll human. I noticed that Mirdain gives me the worst ping, around 300, but everything else is around the 150 mark.

Now to the more relevant part of this post: have you turned off post processing effects and shadows? I noticed that the game became better looking, and more playble when I did. No longer do I face the uber-teleporting goblins of death.

Lol just hang out a bit? Sorry it's been posted many times even by fanboys that there are not spawns few minutes from any area you are in. This is one area you cannot lie to us about.

Yeah, I turned off all of the shadow effects, I'm playing on a laptop, so, by default, a lot of the settings are all ready low.  The draw rate is low, so I guess that works out..

I also have to say that I'm not impressed by the AI.  I don't really understand how anyone could be.. The monsters run away when they are low on health, they "guard" (assuming it's actually guarding and not a respawn) grave stones..   Nothing amazing.  In VG, monsters ran away when low on health, grabbed a bunch of buddies and came storming back.  Sort of like in DF.

The combat is okay, sort of drab.  It has the feeling of Zelda in that you run up.. swing.. and run back in an attempt to miss the counter attack.  I've hit a couple of Alfars thus far on accident and been labeled rogue for a few seconds.  I hate looting, it's a complete pain in the ass.  For those of you who haven't played yet.. it goes like this: Press R to put away your weapon, press F while the tomb is targeted.  Hopefully your bag is open, if not you have to open it after you press F.  Then you have to drag and Drop everything, which is easy enough, but that means you have to make sure your bag isn't over lapping the other one.  Oh, and did I mention that two people can loot the same tomb.. at the same time.  So, if you aren't fast enough to take the stuff, you're SOL.

After combat, if you can't jump right back in, you'll have to rest.  That means dragging the rest icon onto your hot bar, putting your weapon away then loading the rest option, and pressing attack (mouse1) to rest (sounds strange, huh?)

I've already mentioned the camps are few and far between.  But since I'm not level driven, it's no bother.  I really enjoy just running around.  And it's always nice to find something new, although if there are monsters in tight clumps, you should not try to fight as it's.. sort of difficult.

It does feel like a story in how things are set up.   I just wish there was more stuff for me to kill and actual roads to follow (like in a lot of Forgotten Realms novels)

The draw distance bugs the crap out of me, but I can live with it. If you see an alfar running around named Jarlaxle with a misspelled last name, please don't kill him. :D

Ah that makes sense.  I have 2 guys in my guild who are cousins that live in Las Vegas, NV....they have a ping give or take around 200-220 they tell me.   It doesn't make the game unplayable as they do quite well, but it makes it a little harder.  Luckily, I don't think the NA server is as far off as most people think.

Ha.. that's funny.. I think one of my guildies may know how to get around the crap ping as he's close by and he's been playing for a while.

It's funny.. in AC, I'd play with 400-600 ping.. and it wasn't so bad (everyone was on dial up then).. and now..
