Hi all, I got a little bit of money back from my taxes and I was wondering if it would be worth upgrading my current system. I play COD, Chronicles of spellborn, Lord of the rings online and games in that caliber.
My systems specs are
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
CORSAIR XMS2 4 gigs DDR2 800 (PC2 6400 (should I upgrade to 8 GIGS??)
2 x GeForce EVGA 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit in sli mode..
Western Digital Hard drive 320 gigs 16 mb cache sata 3 i think...
Antec 650 PSW
Should I uprade?

The only thing I would contemplate upgrading is the processor and motherboard in that order. However, its an unnecessary upgrade and there will most likely be a better offering in a year which is when I would upgrade that system if thats all you are playing.
I second cleffys idea. If you play the games you listed its quite unnessercy to upgrade. Wait till the next generation of hardware when divx11 is the standard.
But if you really want to spend money on your compture, damn its funny,I would suggest that you look at your hardware like your spekars, keyboard, mouse and screen to see if they need a upgrade.
And if that dosent suit your needs I would suggest that you upgrade your processor first of all (maybe to an phenom II if your moatherboard supports it). The second hardware I would go for is the awsome soundcard Asus Xonar Essence STX. That card is what I like most in my high end system becuse the diffrence from the sound your moatherboard gives you is so beautiful and diffrent.

for upgrades how about a phenom II X3 720 BE for a processor upgrade? I think it'll go into an AM2 board and can go into an AM3, but make sure it's the AM3 socket CPU. You can buy one for £120 on Amazon.co.uk and it's about $145 in the U.S, then you can get an AM3 socket motherboard later if you don't have the cash. Asus and Gigabyte do good AM3 boards, make sure it's a 790FX chipset though.
Remember if you get the AM3 board you'll need DDR3 ram and that is a bit pricy right now, remember to use high speed DDR3 you'll need to overclock the motherboard until they release a decent BIOS update.
That's my advice as that's what I'm doing ATM, already got my 0904 batch processor but won't have everything ready to assemble until late May

A tri core Phenom 2 upgrade would be a noticeable difference, but truth be told I bet you're running almost all games at max. I'd personally pput it towards a nicer monitor (there's lots of great cheap panels these days) or a new system a year or 2 down the line.
Cichy I wouldn't upgrade mate. You should be able to play those games at max settings and still get pretty decent performance and upgrading 4gig - 8 gig of RAM probably wont help that much at all. 2x8800GT is more than enough and the only thing I would do if forced to is change the mobo and buy a more powerful video card so you can cut down on the power and noise of SLi. If you want to spend your money on upgrading then stick it in a separate account and look in 6 months and you will get much better value.
