On The Hunt... For a New MMO

Mystik86Mystik86 Member CommonPosts: 380

This will be my second time posting a thread in LFGame as I have seemingly hit that predictable burnt out/boredom of my current MMO(s).

I will try my best to explain what I am looking for and hopefully we'll get some hits.

Graphics: 3D - Average to OMG Nice graphics. Realistic preferred. Post year-2000 preferred.

Solo/Group Factor: Decent amount of soloable content for leveling with perhaps SOME grouping at one point or another.

PvE/PvP: A healthy balance of both would be nice. I don't mind open-world PvP or the constant threat of being ganked but I like a break from it when I can get the chance.

Payment Options: P2P or F2P, doesn't matter.

Setting: Modern, Futuristic; Deep and immersive landscapes, believable characters.

Movement: AWSD preferred.

Type: RPG or FPS, or both preferred.

Depth of Character Creation: Wide variety of faces/hair/body types or chargen slider type mega customizability.

Character Development: Skill based progression preferred, though a normal leveling system is alright...

I fear something like this may not yet exist and if it doesn't, I'm willing to substitute the modern setting for more high-fantasy.

Games played:

Age of Conan, ArchLord, Cabal Online, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Entropia Universe, EVE Online, EverQuest II, Fallen Earth, Furcadia, Guild Wars, KALOnline, Lineage 2, Lord of the Rings Online, Perfect World International, Pirates of the Burning Sea, Requiem, RF Online, Runes of Magic, Runescape, Second Life, The Matrix Online, Tibia, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning and World of Warcraft.

Hmm as you said I do not believe your game exists yet. The only game that I think fit some of your criteria was tabula rasa however that got the axe not to long ago.

Yep and I rather enjoyed TR. Guess I'll have to wait for The Secret World. Are there any fantasy MMOs that fit what I'm looking for, instead of modern?

Looks like you pretty much tried all the major MMOs already. Think you are in the same boat as me...just sittin back n waiting to see what comes up in the next year or two.  Pretty much either take a break or go back to something you have already tried n try it over again.

You are basically describing Earthrise.  Gotta wait for it.

You haven't tried DDO. It doesn't really fit you're needs really. Its a PvE focused dungeon crawler based around grouping and real time no auto attack combat. PvP isn't important and is only used to waste time between dungeons. It's fun if you're a casual 'group with people for fun and laughs' and shouldn't be played hardcore.

There's a 7 or 10 day trial www.ddo.com just thought I'd suggest since it wasn't in the essay of MMOs you've tried. Or it was and I missed it.

I honestly have no desire to play DDO, but thank you for the suggestion. I think I'm too "hardcore" for it anyways. Guess I'll just keep waiting on stuff...

I'm in the same situation as you. ever since TR closed i havn't been able to find a game to replace the feeling of purpose, the feeling of what i do actually makes a difference

i've tried: runescape, TR (my favorite) Lotro, archlord, Pirates of the burning sea,  wow, war, 2moons, the perfect world, Darkfall (still trying to get into this one), mabinogi, Anarchy Online. i've only played mmo's for a year now and i just cant find anything.

I am in the same boat. None of the games currently out can hold my attention and it sucks to say the least...

For once in my life I don't have a game to play... Guess its time to continue leveling my RL toon.

You should try out Planetside.  Not sure how big the population is right now though.

Graphics - Average but can be very immersive flying around.

Solo/Group Factor - You can solo all you want, or join a group and take some bases.  If you're all about the fun, both can be rewarding.

PvE/PvP - This is pure PvP.

Payment Options - p2p.  I don't think there's a trial either.  If there is a trial though, I need to jump on that and fly around in my reaver some... drool.

    Setting - futuristic

    Movement - standard FPS controls

Type - FPS with RPG elements, like deciding what your character can do (weapon choices, vehicle choices, etc... gotta specialize in what you can do)

Depth of Character Creation - I don't remember this being all that customizable.

Character Development - kill people, get xp, level up, learn new certificates that let you do more stuff.

Keep your eye out for Huxley which is hopefully coming soon.  I hope a true spiritual successor comes to planetside one day... even with the existing low pop it might be worth checking out unless something has seriously changed in the past half year (last time I played).

Never got into Planetside and I honestly don't see myself playing it now. It's a bit too dated for my liking...

Wish I had a recomendation for you, but as others have said you pretty much have tried everything. Might try to look at one you have done in the past. Even game you have tried and got sick of before could be fun again in the right situation. i will actually be going back to WoW again in a few weeks because my GF has never tried it, and wants to play it. I actually got sick of wow, but I am really looking forward to being able to play it with her and taking her though the early things.

Basically I guess what I am saying is try getting a close friend or someone to join a game with you, and try to have a fun time together. Thats about the best way I can think of to find new fun in a past game. It is also always better to play with a friend anyways.

Good luck on the hunt for the perfect game.

Thank you for that. I think I will go back to a game I've already played for the time being, though I am still open to suggestions.
