After being one of the beta testers scratching their head when I heard they were releasing SWG when they did, I now try any subscription based game prior to launch or I won't buy it.
SWG is a horrible use of the license and name, the fans of the game are the ones who like to sit in their own player made towns in their player made cantinas and pretend to be immersed in the story.
What a boring, afk leveling pile of dung this game now is and they can keep EQII for the mindless zombie hordes who will continue to make blind purchases based on the uberness of a crafting system.

Ya know, if I could vote for threads (Like they do in the SWG forums) I'd 5 star you right away.
AFK leveling pile of dung? The fact I could leave my character in the middle of a huge mob, not even look at my screen, wait about 30-45 seconds, and when the music stops, I know my character has killed the 6 Mokks that surrounded him and I'm fully healed.
Sad thing is, I would have my PC fighting doing hunts, then I would load my Laptop and I'd be posting on the forums while leaving my character beat stuff up on it's own thanks to macros.
It's a sad... very very sad. SOE messed up SWG so much. I mean there was no challenge. I managed to complete my Master Rifleman+Master Fencer template in 2 weeks. And NO, I'm not a no-life player that plays 10 hours a day... monday to friday I play 2-3 hours per night. On weekends I'll spend no more than 4-5 hours. And to master 2 combat professions in less than 2 weeks? That's freaking sad.
Problem is, I'm a sucker for free trial games... damn SOE emails me saying I'm one of the Beta-tester winners... lol... I just read in the EQ2 forum that tones of other people are "winners" too.
That's just SOE trying to force people to play EQ2 before launch so that they will buy EQ2 instead of WoW.
Well... I'll play it... I wish I would force myself not too, but free stuff is something I can never pass by. I hope I'll hate the game... I hope the game sucks too... cause if the game rocks... oh geez... I'm back to another SOE product and the customer support at SOE is the worst I've ever seen in a MMORPG company.

Lol, ive never been invited to a single beta.
Wasnt even invited to the JTL beta, and im a community elder ffs.
Anyway, my SWG account ends on the 5th of november, and its probably the 3rd time ive cancelled. Its a great game for the first few months, but ive mastered some profs upto 3 times, done pvp excessively and also tried crafting as an armoursmith, so ive done it all. Updates are more regular now, and JTL was a needed boost to the game...or was it?
What made me cancel was, everyone is in space, and i mean everyone. As an ovrt rebel, i was the only overt around, coronet half empty, theed empty, bestine, maybe 2 people..this at prime time...everyone in space. To me, this is forcing me to buy JTL, else im playing a single player game. The 2 arent itegrated at all, and its just killed the ground game, so in effect, JTL is like SWG 2..would u play EQ1 after getting EQ2? no, you wouldnt and this is whats happened, no one wants to play the groudn agme anymore.
I could just get JTL to fix all this, but i tried beta after a friend gave me his spare key, and its just a shoot em up, you cant land on planets, you cant go inside space stations, its just empty space filled with NPC's in ships. I know id be kidding myself if i believed it would hold my attention for more than a few weeks.
I will be trying EQ2 i think, but from what ive seen in screenshots, the combat is really uninvolving, and perhaps less tactical than SWG, and theres no pvp....but its the content, the depth and sheer size of the game that appeals to me. No other game on the horizon other than EQ2 atm too, WoW wont be out until early next year, open beta hasnt even started, tbh more liekly to come out end of january.

I beleive that SWG is the current frontrunner in mmo's.Im not in a PA and i dont ever plan to be either.
Ive played quite a few mmo's and SWG allows me the freedom to make my character what i want it to be.
SWG is far from the worst game around.SWG is no worse than any game on the market.Want to see some bad mmo's?Go take a look at AO for chrissakes.I recently tried that out for a week and its the same game as eq more or less.Do a mission get credits to buy implants to do harder missions etc etc....talk about a level grind.
Funcom releases content for highend players and nothing for newbies.Sounds a bit like eq if ya ask me.In a few days or a couple of weeks we will begin to hear from EQ2 players about how the game was released way ahead of when it should have been.
I like SWG because i have fun with it.Having fun i dont even notice a level grind at all.Until developers realize this is the way it should be ill stick with this one.Sure it may be easy to master skills but there is a reason for that.So you can learn new ones and change your character over time.
Gimme a break already on the SWG bashing there are sooo many worse mmo's on the market right now.

Don't get me wrong, the whole concept is amazing. It's just that every single profession I grinded from every single character I created and completed had no future EXCEPT my Master Rifleman+Master Fencer which was just too uber and helped a lot when grinding ForceXP while doing the Jedi Quests.
I dunno, I played the game for a year, I felt like I did everything this game has to offer. The only goals which I have never achieved were:
-Getting at least 1 piece of RIS Armor, I never did master Armorsmith with 1 of my chars.
-Getting an ATST. I only tried to get over 30k Imp faction once, I got to 9k, but that was last month when I quit SWG.
-Getting a Mandolorian Armor. I had the Bounty Hunter Chest and Boots, but my friends quit SWG before we had a chance to actually craft them, and the guilds or people I asked for help are so incompetant I learned that the only people I could trust were *myself* and people I know in *real life*.
-Getting all Corvette Badges. With my Jedi Quest character, I never did any Corvette Badges, but I did have 1 Neutral Destroy badge with my TKM+Master Doc character on Ahazi.
-And last but not least, unlocking my Jedi. I quit at the Combat Prowess Phase 3 mission since it's bugged and SOE didn't care.
Other than what I mentioned above, I did everything else, all in 1 year. Okay so I didn't master every single profession, but I did master quite a few, got pretty far up in others and sure okay so there are some professions I never even dared touching. Squad Leader, Weaponsmith, Politician... hmm I think only those 3. I mastered all combat professions at least once thanks to Doctor Buffs + 80% kinetic resistance armor. Thanks to the money from grinding + crafting I could easily master any crafting profession thanks to Macro looping. Thanks to my 2nd PC and one of my 3 accounts I could tumble for myself and master Medic, Doctor and Combat Medic within 1 day.
See... this game is messed up, SOE knows there are problems but they don't care. They don't care if there's new billionaires every couple days. They don't care if you can master a profession within a few days or hours.
I guess all that SWG is about now is roleplaying. Which was fun, but you gotta find the right people, and the right people I used to know have all quit SWG long ago.

Well i tend to solo quite a bit so im working on my businessman skills atm im hanging out around mos eisley and just attempting to make a hard scrabble life for myself.Im eyeing the smuggler profession (seems unique even more so than BH).
After all the mmo's ive played im hard pressed to find an mmo with the possibilties of roleplay and professions. While others obsess on gettin master professions i tend to have fun while playing. How do i do this?I live my characters life in SWG.Im not in a hurry to master anything but at the same time im aware of what my actions are as far as getting xp goes.

I tell ya what man.....
The game was fantastic during the first 6 months after its release. It was group oriented and had the most diverse player base I had ever seen. There was no such thing as a "BEST" template back then they were all viable. melee were tough up close and ranged were better from far away. Just the way it should be. There were no uber people and everyone was unique both in appearance and character skills.
Then they started changing things..... Uber buffs and armor came into play. The melee people begin stacking defenses and wearing full comp armor at 80% with virtually no HAM cost because of the buffs and food. The ranged game virtually dissapears and everyone has an uber melee solo character.
When all was said and done everyone looked the same and had the same skills. The game at that point was ruined. Then comes Jedi for everyone willing to grind it out. Now the only viable combat profession is jedi. It has gone beyond repair.
The only way they could entice many of us players back would be a server without player jedi, doc buffs, uber poisons, and no defense stacking.
" Alright, you primitive screwheads, listen up: THIS... is my BOOM STICK!"

EQ2 took a totally different direction from SWG.
In beta the number one trolls about EQ2 gameplay from what i seen are those that like SWG system.
There will be no afk macroing of tradeskills(u die if u try simple as that),no soloing dragons,no afk combat, grouping is needed for some encounters,no level 50 in even 4 weeks of hardcore gaming talk less of casual.
Totally opposite of SWG.
Sadly there was no open beta but close to 50k people did get into beta though.
What makes you think EQII will be as bad as SWG just because it's by Sony? EQ isn't as bad as SWG. I played EQ for three years at least, but got fed up with SWG after only a few months. I agree that blind purchasing might be a bad idea, but like i say you can't base a prediction about EQII on the pile of crap they call SWG.

After subscribing to SWG and SOE stealing my money, I'll never give them another cent. I wouldn't care what license they have, what great game, I'll never deal with SOE again. SWG was a broken product from the beginning and customer support was non-existant. It was buggy and laggy. It's unfortunate that they ruined a Star Wars MMORPG.
I hope Turbine doesn't disappoint with MEO.
