Odd lag during melee

I'm curious to know if others experience an odd stop and go lag while clicking skills on the deck.  What happens is the screen freezes very briefly when a new skill is chosen.  Then afterwards clicking that skill causes no lag.  This occurs with every skill at least once.

I'm thinking gameguard is keylogging and when a skill is activated it "scans" that function therefore it stops then continues.

Overall I like TCOS but the frequent barrage of melee hiccups is very annoying.

hm.....no, I havn't noticed anything of the sort. That would drive me nuts.

have you tried any performance tweaks?? Tried maybe turning OFF hardware accelleration in the sound options??

I haven't tried that yet.  When I asked in chat if others were having the same problem two said yes.  I'll try turning off hardware acceleration.

    I'm using vista 64 btw.

Try unchecking hardware sound accelleration. That seems to help some.  One of the serious problems is that the game engine only uses ONE of your CPU's cores, and doesn't really use much of your GPU's capacity.  That means its not going to wear well, as time passes.  I'm starting to get the same feeling I had with the Saga of Ryzom. Nice game, dedicated Dev's, but too many bad design and business decisions.

It doesn't utilize the GPU as it should?  TCOS is a newer game, right?  Why would it not be allowed to use the GPU as much as possible?  Thats frustrating.  EQ2 is the same way.

I like ryzom alot and play it often.

Good for you. After the first two folds I lost heart.  I hope things work out for the new owners and the player base.

As far as I know, EQ2 uses a lot of GPU resources, and may be multi core at this point.

I played eq2 a few months ago and was told many times by people in game and in the forums that the engine doesn't utilize GPU resources like it should.

This is how it was explained to me:  When eq2 was in development sony believed processors would continue increasing in hertz such as 4, 5, 6, 7, gigahertz and coded eq2 with that future in mind but the market didn't follow that idea.  However it does take advanatage of dual cores.  Recently, this year I think, the dev team patched in dual core support to decrease shadow lag.  A common complaint was shadows cause alot of hitching.  The patch hasnt helped much imo.

One way to work around that initial stuttering is to just fire off some of your skills when you first enter a zone.
