I'm curious what some of your favorite fantasy settings are in a game. Plus, I'd like to hear how you guys describe them.
Here's what I mean, I'll describe mine.
My favorite fantasy setting is one where there is a beautiful meadow, with rolling grass and wild flowers in the wind. When you look off in the distance across the meadow, you see just past the tree line surrounding the meadow that there is a large rising jagged peak. This peak has no place in the peaceful and relaxing meadow or even close to it, as a matter of fact it sticks out like a sore thumb. This just adds to ominous and intrusive nature of it.
On the top of the jagged rise there is a castle that you sense houses great evil. Even the weather directly above the castle is different than what surrounds the rise. there is a darkness cast on the castle caused by shadows from the rolling dark clouds that are blocking out the light shining down from the heavens, as if the castle is trying to hide its horrible activities from the gods looking down.
As scary as the castle seems, you cannot wait to walk across the meadow, collect rations from the productive field, and set out to climb to the peak and find out what lies inside.
And once you enter, you find a horrible menagerie of events unfolding. Experiments and creations that have nothing on their mind but infestation and the spread of chaos.
I'm not Stephen King, but that's the best description I can give. I picture it a lot in my head and think it would be a cool encounter perhaps in a game.

"So that's the place?" - He took the glasses off, narrowing his eyes, before putting them back. Place seemed right out of old fairy tales - dark, foreboding and completely devoid of originality.
"Seems like it. If we can trust the given directions" - Said the tall guy, double-checking his map.
"Yes, we can. And the less you talk, the better. Now, what are we up against?"
"Well, the guy would like us to think he is a necromancer of sorts. Probably lying - wouldn't have the time to study all this flashy weather magic."
"You don't say..." - The first one sighed, stretching his shoulders.
"So, are we going in?"
"Of course we do. Or would you prefer to leave the job unfinished and have a bounty on your head?"
"Allright, allright, sheesh! Talk about overreacting..."
"Well, you seem to be underestimating, what we're up against..." - Said the first one, accompanied by distant thunderclap.
"You gotta admit - he sounds like all talk, no bite."
"Or maybe he wants you to think that way. Right. No point wasting time here any further. Let's..." - He pointed somwhere to the distance, - "try to flank it".
"You're the boss..." - The tall one smirked, readying his crossbow. Just another task...
I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.
I'll be honest. The MMO industry is just so flooded with fantasy ..they are all just blurring together. IM kinda waiting for a solid NON-fantasy game. Sci Fi, Super hero, etc.
Only so many edged weapons a man can wield
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Ancient forest with towering trees and moss. Sun barely reaches the ground in scarce patches. Lone knight and his paige raid their horses slowly. The air is moist , smelling of earth. Heavy silence resides ....
I like the world of Final Fantasy 6, 7, and 13. Also Xenogears, although this is mostly science fiction. Basicly they all have some sort of magical force in them whether its explained or not in the story with exotic environments and weird creatures plus a lot of advanced technology mixed with it.
I cant stand the basic high fantasy like elves and stuff anymore like Lord of the Rings or Dungeons and Dragons.
The Deadspell storm in chronicles of spellborn
freaking epic

I was so addicted to that game when I first played it.
Well, if you want to talk videos...

nice vid's. I'm redoing this one, it's a clip before the first cut premiere..which I can't find atm. Sound wasn't edited in this one..the original (where-ever it's at) was 12 minutes. It went from a comic into paint and will come out soon as vector with 3d effects and an interactive game and will look completely different. Characters have been redone since this and the scenes are much better now. Should have something nice up in a month.

My Fantasy
is this yours too?
I personally have had enough of fantasy settings. Very, very boring and unimaginative.
Well, we seen a lot of copies of forgotten realms and while I like the original I still think we need some change.
Shadowrun is probably the setting I like to see most, elves with machineguns rocks
Other than that I would like to see some more settings with less magic, maybe an adoptation of Goerge R Martins "A game of throne" or maybe even something that is historical instead of fantasy.
Kind of like this?
That's nice. A little too barren for my taste though. I like some plants pushing up.
I always like the cave settings with crystals pushing out through the cave walls and pools that have formed from dripping waters. I recently went on a cave expedition and the whole time I was in there I could not get how cool it would look in a game out of my head.
Not my favorite, but anyone ever read Dragonlance and the stories of the Dwarven city of Thorbardin? It was a massive cave that housed many dwarven clans, and the centerpiece was a lake with a giant stalcite that housed one of the main clans. An elevator was used to move through the levels of the stalcite.
My blog is a continuing story of what MMO's should be like.

I am working on it.
I was using a texture in that one and changed it to a splatting algorithm
the story.
I started walking back toward the valley and I would still look back to see if those looming peaks were the location of the great fortress. And I wondered if maybe I may have been in the wrong region of the great silvermine mountains.
Nothing beats the walk through though
But seriously. If we are talking Fantasy settings, i dont see why nobody wanted to tap Forgotten Realms
Its incredibly open - meaning you have everything and anything fantasy ever imagined
- from vast underground realms to steampunk
And yet still it is allready so detailed that avery notch and cranny is described in some source book or other...
