Who else is psyched??

I just called my local EB where I pre-ordered WoW and they told me I could pick it up at 10:00 a.m. and I'm psyched.  I do have one quick question.  I noticed that on the F.A.Q.'s on the official site, there is P V. P elements on the P V. E servers, so what's the difference between the two?  Thanks and here to a fun and error-free launch! image

    PvP aka Player vs Players
    PvE aka Player vs Enemies

On a PvP server, alliance and horde are actually at war, meaning you can attack just about anyone from the other faction (can depend on the zone you are or things like that)

From what I see loooots of people are going to PvP, one reason is that special ultra-unique items will be given to good PvPers. Other reason being the fun you can have in wars like that.

    Hell yeah I'm psyched!!

PvE servers will have PvP battlegrounds for you to beat the ever-lovin crap out of your friends, peers, and comrades for fun.

PvP servers will have battlegrounds as well as the ongoing epic war between the mighty, unstoppable Horde and the pitiful, whimpering Alliance.

Yup, and the honor system will allow you attain ranks, tabards and privileges such as discounts at NPCs.

Oh, ok, I'm curious though, what are the advantages and disadvantages to each type of server?

  • ShobuShobu Member Posts: 195

Well there are many, but the one that springs to my mind is that if you go questing in contested (or ass-kicking) territory your quest reward will be greater because there's more danger involved in completing it than if you completed that same quest on a PvE server.

Is this true Shobu?  You read this somewhere?

Quests done on PvP servers within contested areas yield more expereince than the same exact quest on a non-PvP server?

If that is true, that pushes me a little more towards going the PvP route.  Can anyone else confirm this or post a link somewhere that shows this?

    From HERE...

For example, our first battleground, Alterac Valley, which is near the Alterac Mountains, is set up like any other zone. Inside, you'll find monsters, quests, a Horde town, and an Alliance town. The quests - which are more rewarding because you are in a PvP area - might be what lure you in, but as more players on your side arrive, you might get swept up in an attack on the enemy's town. If you manage to kill the commander there, their town will get razed, and your side will accumulate team honor points.

So it's not quite how I understood it. You'll still have battlegrounds on PvE servers, so you'll see the benefits either way.

    Tomorrow's shopping list:

    5 Litres of Mt. Dew

    4 lbs. of Twizzlers

3 CDs (Scooter - The Stadium Techno Experience, Peter Gabriel - Shaking the Tree, and Hans Zimmer - Greates Hits)

    2 cases of clementines

    1 World of Warcraft

    Z-E-R-O sleep.

I'm really pondering the fact of skipping my classes Wednesday too. Dunno though; 2 years without missing one college class. That's a hell of a record to break.

I just got a call from EB five minutes ago saying that my preorder of World of Warcraft will be ready tomorrow for pick up. ::::01::

Yes, that's a nice explanation of the PvP reward system though.  I might be going PvP because of that anyway.  Thanks a bunch for the link.

I'm actually thinking of blowing off the clients I have to see tomorrow.  I'm going to be stopping to pick up my copy tomorrow morning.  I know once I actually have it in my hands, I'm going to have the urge to call them and say I'm sick or something image

I'm dying to get back to the fun!
