Okay, so EVE is pretty much one of the only games to always make me ponder playing it every time I hear about it. Which says a lot. As well, I've tried the free trials twice now. Years ago though. So, I am downloading the client, and thinking of sub'ing for a month and giving it another go. So, I'd like some information if any of you could...
1. Show me some screen shots of decent ship appearences if you could? Try to impress me with something beautiful so I dont go in thinking everything looks like junk.
2. I know PvP is highly focused on in the game, which I do poorly in PvP... too big of a heart, feel bad any time I attack someone for no seemingly decent reason... that being sad, I dont mind playing a back up roll for those that do (Think of like a healer in a PvP group). Is that a viable option with the logistics ships or any other ships?
3. I full expect anyone that has played longer than me to always win me at anything and everything no matter what. Without trying to say "Well, it's possible that..." or "In theory..." etc, be honest, am I right? I don't mind it so much so long as some of those older peeps are on MY side >.>
4. Your WORST experience in the game. What made you nearly leave forever?
5. Your BEST experience in the game. What made you want to shed some tears and say "I love you..." and then hug the monitor?
So yeah, sorry for the questions, but things like this keep me going!

yes, recons, blackops, covops, logistics, carriers are all support ships, as are interdictors, hictordictors, ceptors, etc, but in a very "eve" kind of way that isnt found in other games. eve is the only game to have tackle as far as i know.
this is wrong. you are not right. if you ever played planetside consider skillpoints like cert points, you get more options but they dont make you invincible, skillpoints are not levels, your ship and your fit and your ability to fly it matter so much more than skillpoints, a newbie in a rifter who listens to the fc or reads guides is so much better than a veteran who refuses to listen or doesnt have a clue, no matter what ship he flies.
i DID quit as a newbie after i jumped my heavy missile fitted uninsured raven into a lowsec gatecamp. i was gutted, i was using it to run level 3 missions.
getting the same guy in an orca on the same gate twice in two days and -because im a roleplayer- rejecting his pleas for a ransom in character. wonderful.
Wanted to say thank you for replying with that information.
I have another little question. I've heard that different ships perform different roles on the battlefield and such, but is this like really truly viable? Think of those games where there's diversity in unit types, but there's always that one unit you can mass produce and it hands down can defeat everything else anyway, making the diversity pointless.
I think I just might go ahead and re-sub for a month, only 10 bucks to reactivate so might be worth a shot.
the relationship between the various ships in eve is complex, but one very reliable rule is that there is no "best" ship, there are ships that are better than others for various different circumstances, but no one ship does it all, flying one ship means you are weak in a certain area and while clever flying and preparation can minimise this effect, if you run up against someone set up to and capable of exploiting your weakness you are in trouble.
its like scissors/rock/paper/handgrenade/jelly/atomic bomb
Dana, look me up in game.
I'm a white hat.. I never pirate, never scam. Like to help new people.
Eve is great for me because I find "doing the right thing" in a world where that represents a (truly difficult) choice is very rewarding.
As far as ship aesthetics, dunno what to tell you. Heck I even like the way the dominix looks, and that's basically an upside down brown shoe in space.
deviliscious: (PS. I have been told that when I use scientific language, it does not make me sound more intelligent, it only makes me sound like a jackass. It makes me appear that I am not knowledgable enough in the subject I am discussing to be able to translate it for people outside the field to understand. Some advice you might consider as well)
Sounds pretty good to me. I am not one that always wants "the best ship" out there. As I had mentioned before, I am not one for toe-to-toe PvP since Im a giant softie >.> But when I see their explosions in a distance as a support ship, its like nobody is really blowing up....
Dana, I read in another thread here that you don't like the look of a lot of the ships because they are asymmetrical. Fair enough, there are quite a few I've had to look at and go "...Wha?". I still don't know what the guy who designed the Rupture was thinking...
But if you like symmetrical ships with cleaner lines, look at some of the Amarr stuff. Their ships are pretty slick, especially on the Premium client.
Hope you find something you like.
Lets Be fair :P
If you ask nicely and W/O Contempt for Our Belovid game we are Nice. If you Ask Badly we will Decend like a pack of Rabid Dogs :P
and I agree with everything above.
Oh and Best moment was geting my Freighter.
Worst was Getting jumped in Lowsec by a pirate and a friend looseing a battleship.
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

If you have questions, seek me out in game (see signature and convo me on xfire or in eve - same name, and I'll show you just how intricate/complex this game is). That or PM me your email, and I'll throw you the eve add a buddy thing (21 day trial)

If you don't like junky-looking ships, keep away from the Minmatar ships. They look like they're being held together by duct tape.
I think a lot of the Gallente ships are pretty slick-looking. Some of them remind me of sports cars though they tend not to be the fastest ships in the game (Minmatar ones usually are). I think the Megathron is a gorgeous ship, and I like how a lot of the Gallente frigates look: Incursus/Enyo/Ishkur for example. The Tristan looks like a flower. Caldari ships are too boxy-looking in my opinion, though the Ferox looks cool.
Despite Gallente ships looking cool, they do have one of the ugliest ships in the game: the Dominix. However, it's such a good ship... it's a pregnant mama drone ship...

1. www.eveonlineships.com/eve-online-ship.php
If that link works, it is quite possibly the sexiest ship in game. If not, look in the Faction Ships section for the Nightmare. It will take a good long bit to skill for, and will set you back right around 1 billion isk to buy one unfitted and unrigged, but there is something to be said for getting Doomsdayed in one, and undocking another like it's no big deal.
2. PVP is a big focus on the game. Without PVP the rest of the game mechanics wouldn't work as well (pvp causes a need for ships which causes a need for industry and mining). Yes, logistics ships are useful in PVP, but rarely in small gang or solo play. That being said, you "dont" have to PVP, but you will eventually be attacked by someone, and you might lose a lot of time and effort in the process. But, I've seen it 100 times. The little miner get his Hulk ganked and the next thing you know he's running around with the roaming fleets in an Interceptor. The rush of small fleet PVP is a rush, and is quite addicting.
3. Within six months of specializing your skill plan, and working towards a set goal, you could be just as good as everyone else at the thing you're specialized in. From that point, you can specialize in something else. Then there's alts. If you can make enough isk to run a second account w/o paying the cash, things like generating cynos to move your capitals to hauling your own ore w/o stopping the mining lasers becomes infinitely easier.
4. Having a good third of EVE come crashing down on the Alliance I work for, to chose to defend someone else while we did it, and have them just give up and let us get stomped all over. But, we got bigger and better friends in the long run, so it all worked out. Was a really sad time, and I managed to lose over 12 billion isk in the process. Still workin' on that.
5. My first Capital Hotdrop (suprise attack). I got my carrier and our Alliance Leader and Fleet Commander was all "NOOB-Drop" and we dropped twenty capitals on a lone battleship pilot. Was all laughs in the end. Well... For us anyways. He was pretty pissed.
lets not start that crap in here, please. Minmatar ships are the best at their roles and pilots who know what they're doing quite intentionally fly minmatar (especially due tot he stealth bomber changes).
They are faster than everyone else, and for that role they excel (it's nice to have battlecruisers that even rigged up fly faster than other race's cruisers). Doesn't mean they fit every possible role, and no race does.

in rust we trust!
Hey, no arguing in my thread >.> he he.
Anyway, I decided to reactivate my very old account, which was last played 2.5 years ago (for like a month only). I discovered I had a Caladari with 3mil ISK... but wasnt too sure if I wanted to continue playing as one. So, made a char (Declan Dark) and shuffled over the ISK and decided to buy the learning skills, and been pumping those into him. Oh, he's a Gallant or however they were spelled.
Every time I've tried out EVE, the beginning set up for the characters has been different... kinda odd, but I suppose okay. This time I didnt get an option to put any stat points anywhere, just choose background stuff, which I managed to come out with 8 in all my stats, except 7 in one of them, forget which one.
So yeah, while I am busy with IRL stuff, got my guy training his learning skills and stat skills so he can learn everything else faster... the advanced skills at 4.5mil isk each are crazy expensive he he, will be a long time till I get those.
Anyway, send me an email in the game, I need some friends, allies, buddies, big brothers/sisters... etc.
try to avoid just training learning skills, you get bored of those quickly, ive added you to buddy list, ill say hi if i see you online.
Join Eve University best thing I ever did in eve. Lots of helpful people, who are willing to teach classes to anyone who wants to learn the finer parts of EVE. They are in constant war at the moment so if you want some PvP expereince it'll do you well. If not, they have an option for you as well. Check them out, there are a lot of people who can help you figure it out.
