Ding! I made seventy - ish ! Grats! can be heard throughout the newbie Northrend areas as warlocks finally get to level their level 70 characters.
It seems that even bitter warlocks are happy with the broad sweeping changes and well thought out and tested fixes to the warlock class come update 3.1. The embarassing update 3.0.3 back in November caused many a warlock to cancel their account, days before the exciting release of Blizzard's next expansion.
Quick to acknowledge its mistakes and complete blunders, Blizzard was eager to point out they now had a part-time paper mache artist working on the "vision" for their epic world and captivating storyline. Spokesman Ghostcrawler was very vocal in his approval of the new design for the class:
"You know, we actually found two people in the company that were occasionally playing warlock alts."
Then he rolled his eyes:
"I KNOW! Right?"
Under his breath:
"I thought I'd finally got rid of those &&@#ers."
Then, hastily, he said:
"I *personally* spent a week playing the class and was very happy with the changes. Dude, I was totally eating babies!"
Insiders at Blizzard point out that the week GC "claims" to have been playing a warlock, the cute little old immigrant lady the company hired to turn on his computer every morning was away on sick leave.
And in other news, Wall Street confuses Chinese tourists trying to find the bear market.

It happens every time. At first the burst dps is the way to go.. then it is the sustained/mana efficient dps... then finally at the end of the season it is all about the healing.
This season, there is currently not a single restro druid in the top 10. Wait til next season when everyone has crazy resillience.
I really like the changes to Warlocks in 3.1 and currently leveling my Warlock in anticipation for it.
Theres still a LOT of changes and improvements Blizzard needs to make for Warlocks but 3.1 is atleast a step in the right direction.
LOL.
But on to a serious matter, warlocks are actually very common in the top 3v3 teams. This link is an article about their popularity in 3s, in a Pally(SURPRISE)/Dk(DOUBLE SURPRISE)/Lock setup.
Locks arguable have the best CC in the game. Even though they are squishy as hell and were definitely one of the classes at the beginning of WOTLK that I assumed was going to be lacking (just like warriors), it turns out that when you give them a ton of resilience, and time, they can blow a lot of other classes out of the water. I started leveling a lock myself.
However, if you have been paying attention to the Warlock and PVP forums lately, you'll see that Warlocks' fear is getting nerfed. You can no longer fear your opponent and expect to take out %25 of their hp before it breaks. This was needed since Vanilla tbh.
Warlock was always my favourite class to play. Glad to hear that they're getting some boosting. Next time I'm in WoW I'll brush the dust off of my Warlock and level her up some more.
Back in EvE. Started with BatMUD. Main MMOs have been EvE and DAoC.
Agreed, this is good news.
I was enjoying levelling my warlock when we were invaded by the rush of Death Knight's in WotLK so his journey came to an end at 68 as it seemed a hopeless task trying to make progress with him on a pvp server surrounded by DK's.
But I've been playing him a bit recently and he's still really fun. But unless we have a stack of resilience, I mean 600-700+ then it's pretty crap in pvp.
Obviously this makes levelling hard work on a pvp server populated 50% by death knight's. So hopefully we will get some more survivability. I'm currently Meta spec but am thinking of taking destruction as a second spec. I played as a destro lock in vanilla and I'm liking some of the improvements that are on the cards for 3.1.
On the whole my warlock and warrior are looking forward to 3.1, my death knight isn't really bothered either way as he will still kick ass, and my rogue is still in too much of a sulk from the mutilate nerf to form an opinion.

You can walk the walk but can you talk the talk?
I stopped playing my Warlock a few months before patch 3.1. I got him to 80 and was raiding but I got frustrated and a little bored playing him. I heard the buzz about the patch and was excited that some good changes were coming my way...but from what I've been reading the patch wasn't very kind to warlocks. Is this true? I heard that afflication got nerfed and the other talent lines haven't improved all that much. Is it worth it to keep playing my lock? What's the best build these days?
I was about to laugh and say job well done, but then I realized you were actually serious.
The op has no idea what he is talking about.Maybe he is talking about another game and posted in wrong forums
DO NOT listen to the hate currently filling the US warlock forums. Its BS spoken by people who dont have/refuse to pay for glyph of lifetap, plain and simple!
I have been a warlock since the very beginning of wow, its my first and only level cap character. I know everything there is to know. I theory every craft every time I log on. Our guilds warlocks all only play warlocks and I daresay we are the best on our server skill wise.
All of us are loving it, all of us are very satisfied with raid performance. It was laughable last night in ulduar 25 just how much above everyone else we were as demo. We had massive dps before 3.1 as demo and now we do another 500-1k dps on top of that. Decimate is awesome, get the correct range and you can double shadowbolt, double soul fire for fantastic damage.
The worst part of the patch is the 32 shard cap, couple with very little trash in Ulduar and (for now atleast) it being hard to spare the dps on the bosses in order to drain soul. We have also found there seems to be a chance to not drain a soul when a mob dies. Which fucks us off!
However the proc rate on drain soul isnt too shabby, could be a little higher but overall its very satisfying to get them during a fight, we had a tank hit a mob and 3 locks drain just before a saph kill and we were sorted for KZ without draining in phase 1, which we normally do to refil our bags, now we can dps hell for leather on p1 instead of passing the time twiddling our thumbs while our bags fill up.
But for raiding, you can pretty much go any spec, it really doesnt matter now, just go with whatever you best love, if you are good (and dont take pvp stuff) you can squeeze out pretty much the same dps as other builds, right now there is more choice as a warlock than there has ever been before. The break from specific spell power really freed up the choice in warlocks, rather than having to gear for shadow or fire like before.
I had been affliction pretty much from the start of wow until I quit in TBC. Ive never been more satisfied with my choice of class than now, I can take a break from affli and still know I wont be gimping myself or the raid.
Just dont listen to the warlocks who dont have glyph of lifetap, they dont know yet or are cheap ass jews with their gold. Heard the glyph of haunt makes huge marks apon affli too so hard to listen to an affli lock with out salt going everywhere if they dont have it, and the only afli locks I see complaing, have neither LT nor Haunt.
Right now a lifetap gives me waaay more spell power than even a Flask+Food and its up every 20seconds in my normal rotation anyway, and by the time im 25man ulda geared, I should be getting something like 250-300 SP from a lifetap. The future is dark, the future is warlock! We're also almost at the point where Demonic Pact is greater than the shaman buff and that brings in another aspect of warlocks to the raiding field where we can actually start providing greater buffs than other classes.
I love this patch! Just hate on another fear nerf, just once Id love to see a set of notes where that doesnt change. Just for once! Anyway I could write for hours because warlocks fascinate me and I love dicussing them in great detail.
PVP? I dont pvp, atleast not arena, I dont like the outcome of the match being determined by which class we (dont) have.
This post is based on emprical and anecdotal evidence from me, a long, long term warlock over several long nights of raiding ulduar 10 and 25, time on the PTR and thousands of gold on respecs, countless hours on dummies just pn 3.1 alone. I dont claim to theorycraft as much as some, nor to have discovered anything major but I do put in hours because I love to raid at the top level and I genuinly believe this will be the most relevant post you will read about 3.1 warlocks.

This type of "nerf this buff that" every patch, along with the high focus on the "fight in a box" arenas is one reason I quit WoW. If they would stop focusing on such a terrible "PvP" staple, they wouldn't have half the balance issues.

That is what they been doing for 4 years or more now, neft this and boost that next patch it will be another lucky class. Too bad the game is not fun anymore, Played WoW for 4 years and all Uldar is, is another Naxx with different color. They should start preparing for WoW 2 insted.
people still play this game!? im amazed!
ive always noticed that blizzard tends to make certain classes overpowered at certain points. back in open beta, warlocks were horrible. then they got buffed up nasty and were a force to be reconned with. so were shamans in the early days. wow just seems to have to many class imbalances. when people complain enough about their class, blizzard goes and makes changes, when sometimes changes werent even neccasary.
as strong as warlocks were when i played the game, what could that have done that would have made them want to stop playing them?
Yes, and the fact that Blizzard can never get these classes to a respectable level of balance makes any form of taking Arenas as a "serious" form of competitive gaming a joke.

YOu 3 are completely off topic, why dont you go discuss this in one of the topics about the issue you are discussing, so that we in this thread can discuss the warlock changes in 3.1

Thanks for the info warty. I think I'm going to play around with my warlock now and try some things out. Can you link in your toon? I'd be interested in seeing your build. I started out as Demo but found I wasn't getting enough dps, I admit I didnt have the best gear but it was really low...many times I was lucky if I could beat a pally tank. Then I switched to a demo/destro hybrid and was getting some good dps. But, I liked being all Demo better, found it more fun to play...that, I think, was the main cause of my frustration. I tried afflictation but couldn't get into it.
Are you all Demo?

Im thinking about dropping the points in suppresion (the only truely awful change imo, wish those points were still in destro)
This is a very good utility build for raids, functions well on trash (not as well as our dual spec mages whove all gone aoe as offspec) but what can you do, other than slap a couple of mobs with the FG and RoF away (SoC on bigger pulls) but you should be able to get an average of about 6-8k dps depending on how alert you/your mages are. Obiously the first to fire wins aoe trash usually, alert mages will cream you if they are aoe. However if you make like us and run through as far as you can without killing then aoe, SoC wins by bloody miles, got 20k sustained on the trash before heigan.
Raid wise with a good comp you should be able to get away with only 300 +hit, but I always carry spare hit gear just in case.
My gear still lacks one or two peices but Im essentially haste capped, SB casts at 2.04secs, any further and it actually nerfs my dps from tapping too much. During heroism it turns sick - alwasy be prepared for heroism, have dots fresh and full mana when you know its coming, thats all of it gone in hero, I normally tap and then haste pot after hero for my own mini one.
My aim for ulduar is to keep the haste at the same level, 2 seconds on SB, and stack more int/crit for efficiency. Ive even started using my crit stone instead, which is nice!
Study every single pull of trash too, I did, I watched the per fight damage and worked out where to do which dots and when to aoe etc. Sorry thats info Im not giving out tho :P study everything, sure sometimes you want to take a break but now I know where I can slack and still do mid dps or where to not even bother etc.
Learn to fish and cook if you dont have mates that already do, the choice of foods makesl ife easier - lacking hit? munch on the hit food. no shammy? chow down that spell food! Good class layout? Eat the haste! Critter bites are great too, up your pet dps nicely. Cant remember if theres crit food, currently using the haste as standard. Buy your flasks or get herbing too, they make a great difference and get glyph of life tap ASAP regardless of spec, its a massive increase.
My ultimate recomendation is to go herb/inscription because you get the imba shoulder enchant and that means you need 0 reputation grinds, taking out the hassle (and its great money to boot) and you can then get your own flasks, making whoever gives you them happy, as well as your bank. That small heal has saved the day several times too.
I think overall I have a great advantage over most locks, I play in the same room as another equally geared and skilled lock and healing druid. SO I hardly ever die and have someone to challenge me for the top spots making every fight interesting. We talk so much about it so we've both gained and gained every raid.
EDIT: over all this is a really fun build, great crits, lots of them and damage that gets better the longer the fight goes on. thats the only downside, short fights dont build the dps as much, anything over 1-2minutes and you will be laughing as you carry on gaining in dps right until the very end of the fight. Its a long term build, and great under all levels of gear.

Yes, please stay on-topic. Thanks!
Everquest just let classes suck at PvP, thats why I hate on that turd game so much. Stupid devs never rebalance stuff, and SOE has tons of dummies.
I am now leveling a Warlock and they are truly a great class, thank you Blizzard for another great job!
If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1)
Don't worry. Warlocks are still absolute crap that most classes can kill with 3 buttons.
Warlocks are in the game for a reason - to suck so bad that facerollers kan kill someone ...
