Installing the trial now. Server question.

I know there are PvE and PvP servers. My question is as a complete noob do I need to worry about higher levels ganking me every time I turn around? I enjoy PvP but I do not enjoy with the hassle of it while leveling unless I actually want to. I would like to roll on a PvP server (for one it seems there populations are higher) and end game every MMO (except for wow and the new raids there are extreemly boring) PvP is about the only end game to do or fun end game for that matter. However if I am going to be ganked or there is healthy PvP on the PvE servers I would like to know. I'm asking this now because I am utterly bored of everything else out there and this should be fresh enough to hold me over till the "next big thing" and if it is fun I will just upgrade the trial account so rolling on the proper server first is a good idea.

PS- i usually play euro time even though I'm in the US. Dont know if that will change what server I should roll on or not.

In my opinion you are better off never trying out the trial. The game is seriously boring, many bugs and had the worst launch ever in mmo history, well besides SoE and SWG. :P

While I apriciate your advice its not what I asked. I am well aware of the launch issues (hell I was one bashing it while talking up war, OOPS). The problem is there isnt anything left I am even remotly interested in. I refuse to play an MMO now without trying a trial first and it doesnt cost me anything to DL it and give it a shot. Just time and I have plenty of that at work :D

I just said that because well I did try it out again and no not on a trial. I am just helping you save money if you are thinking of trying and buying. By all means try it out. I am just basing this off my perspective with playing my account and not a trial.

Currently on the trial with a few friends, had the game when it was launched.

What I've seen so far its pretty fun, if you have time to spare its worth giving it a bash.

Heard there is allot of ganking on the pvp servers, but I found the PvP-RP server (EU) to be pretty nice.

While "Oldagejunkie" is correct in that the game had a horrible launch and had and still has some issues,  I am currently having a blast on the Aquilonia Rpvp server (EU).

As you have already said it costs nothing to to give it a try now and make up your own mind, so i would say give it a bash.

If you like lots of PvP then i'd recommend FURY,  If it's PvE: CROM and if you like PvP with a little RP: Aquilonia.

I find the the MMORPG forums are good for some information, however there are a lot of haters here for every game and they are generaly the most out spoken and take over threads.

I don't hate Age of Conan and neither am I a fanboi. I was just helping the guy out and voicing my opinion. Like I said he should give it a try I guess and form his own opinion. I am very unspoken also, I usually never post as you can see and never reply. If he does like it now then cool, thumbs up for him. My bad if my posts seemed rather bashful or hateful. :)

Sorry Oldagejunkie, i didn't mean that to sound like i was attacking you there. Only meant the first bit to be relevant to what you said.

The bit about the forums was just a general opinion as to what these forums are like when it comes to advice.

    Again sorry :)

My opinion is to wait untilthe next big pacht is on the live servers. I think is named 1.05 orsomething like that, will bring a redo on itemstats and on how character stats works.

I'm also playing the trial right now and having some fun. I rolled on Set because i heard out of all the pve servers it had the best population. But when i created my char around noon central time all servers had a "medium" load. It is hard to actually see how general population is because of the chat restrictions on trial account. (Oh and this was like on a friday afternoon btw). Might reroll on Aquilion and check it out but i don't know...not much can be acomplished in only 7 days...run on high settings quite nice to my surprise. I was hesitant to purchase the game because of all the horros stories about having to have a "monster" rig to play the darn thing. I'm getting around 20FPS on these settings on an older(but well kept) AMD 3800+ single core with a 9500 GT vid card (Geforce) @1680x1050 widescreen resolution. Which as I said is really surprising. Had to adjust my card settings a bit to get the optimal look but although the graphics are pretty amazing, Vanguard graphics on this machine are still better, which again was surprised as I have heard AoC graphics was the best. I also play LotRO off and on with my wife but LotRO just seems way to easy for the most part for me . I like a challenge...All in all graphics wise these 3 games are the best in eye candy.

Just my 2 cents worth here guys................

Well, here is what i generaly do when it comes to a new game and a trial, play the PvE servers, this way you get to know the game and what your char can do and it's powers, the PvP although fun, is a lot more hectic, generaly there is a lot of ganking by experienced players who are starting alts. Also the next patch in AoC is said to be the Big Cheese, but as it may take a long time to arrive, i say don't wait for it

Which patch are you referring to as they just implemented a pretty big one last week? we now have dirX10 support as well as a trial (btw go to the official site to download the launcher for the trial as the one on here is a filefront or sume such and you have to register and all that annoying unnessary crap. I got my key code here and inserted it on the main sign up page on aoc main site... Bout a 4 hour download for the trial version...8-9 GB Ouch! No telling how big the comp[lete game is.

There is a huge update on the test servers currently that will make major changes to the importance of loot,t he balancing of classes, the stat-system in general and some other things. I don't think that waiting for the update is essential to enjoy the game yet it seems Funcom has major hopes for that update to improve the game further since they seem to wait with their vet win-back campaign till afterwards.

As for trials...I suggest you rather give the fileplanet trial a try since you then have 14 days playtime instead of 7.

i would suggest on the trial play  a pve server if you decide to get the game it would be a massive mistake to play on pve server . the game would be extremly dull without the pvp aspect . in fact i would say your only half playing the game  if your going souly down the player vs enviroment route . unlike warcraft , the difference between pve and pvp is huge . in fact its like playing two totally different games . on mediorce the other very good .

I started with the trial so fairly new.  But I'm on a PvE server, cause I find ganking to be a game breaker for me in other full on PvP games I've played.  There IS PvP on a PvE server.  It's limited to mini games, and just random fights duals in the border kingdom.  Most of this is for higher levels.  There is also sieges, though I've not seen or heard of one on the server I'm on (ironspire) but I'm on a "new" server, with out many lvl 80's.

Personally, one area that does seem lacking at end game IS PvP on the PvE servers.  It's not like WAR or DaoC where your guild goes into a neutral area to fight over some goal on a regular (like a hamster on a wheel) basis.

As for population...they all say "medium"...at all times, so don't let that fool you...some are far more emptier than others.  PvE sever I believe Set is the biggest.

Thanks for the advice all. I Think I like the combat system alot. Definitly like it alittle. However I'm haveing some tech issues that I'm finding extreemly anoying such as being in fullscreen and it jumping out of fullscreen to windowed mode for no reason. One issue I am having is not the games fault really. Out of date graphics (yay laptops and them not supporting updated video drivers) is causing a couple issues but its still playable. I think if I could figure out how to stop it from jumping from full to windowed every 5 min or so and having to reset it I would be enjoying it a hell of alot more.
