Playing a MMO from another countries server?

snowyjoesnowyjoe Member Posts: 36

Ello allllssss

I'm Japanese and I currently live outside of Japan.

I used to  play Monster Hunter Online, but Monster Hunter Online only offers its service to residents of Japan. So when i moved out of Japan, i had to cancel my account :'(

Now since Tabula Rasa is pretty much dead, and that EarthRise and Fallen Earth (my wishlist games) are still a bit to go this year (I bet you it will be delayed till next year!) I'd like to go back and play Monster Hunter Online again.

A friend told me that it might be possible if i play the MMO through a Japanese server?

I think he means connect my connection to a internet server in Japan and then play the MMO from the Japanese server.

Anyone have any ideas on how i should do this?

What you need to do is connecting through a japanesse proxy.

Anyway my first try would be contact this game's support and ask for a solution, maybe they can help you.

Yeah i was thinking of contacting them too.... but maybe the reaosn they don't allow non-Japanese residents to play this is because of copy-right issues and stuff? I don't know but there must be a reason that they don't allow out-side Japan IPS >.<

Well I'll give it a shot and try and contact them anyway thanks.

I'll also look more into proxys

Most companies host because of localization regions.  When a company buys the rights to a game in order to host, they buy it to host in a region.  There are usually dozens of localization companies that lay claim for hosting rights which means IP blocking foriegn IPs is a necessity.  Also some country's governments like China and South Korea prohibit hosting mmos to foriegn nations.  I don't think you will get an honest answer from the company on how this is done.  The best you can hope for is that they will allow the account to be transfered to the other company.  However, it isn't in their best interest to do so and the other localization company would probably deny such a transfer since they would lose the profit of releveling an account.  The only businesses who would practice this are well run subsidies.

Your best solution is to use a proxy without notifying the company.

Errr yeah....I acturally would go play some Japanese Ero-Game rather than go play as a sexy female charater in a MMO.....

Yeah you can dress her up in sexy costumes and stuff.... but thats it!? Wheres the boobies!

Anyway, thanks for the advice guys, i guess I'll just try and access the game using a proxy.
