MMORPG Player seeking guidence and advice

I am currently a college student, with a lot of spare time on my hands. I have been playing DAoC for around 3 years now and have reached some interesting crossroads.

recently i have purchased EQ2 (because long ago i played EQ1 and i loved it). i am a hardcore pvp player, and so is my friend that joined EQ2. i know you are all asking why would we go to EQ2 if there is no pvp? well im not going to rant on about it, but we figure that there is reason to believe that overtime there will be pvp in EQ2 (based on the way the game is set up and its heritage).

the problem is that i am starting to lose faith in EQ2 and SOE. ""maybe pvp will never come out and i wasted my money........"" rolls through my mind every so once and awhile. my good friend that has been with me since the days of the first EQ has all the faith in the world that SOE will eventually release a pvp server.

so alas i dont know what to do....i can;

1) Just stick it out in EQ2 and hope for the first

2) Go to WoW, without my friend, and without ANY KNOWLEDGE AT ALL about the game...but there will be pvp

3) Say to tell with everything and wait for Guild Wars to come out, or just stick with DAoC

what would you do?

to 2) What knowledge is there to gain? WoW is just a copy of every other MMORPG already out, since youve already played EQ, youve got all the knowledge you'll ever need and then some.

If you really like PVP then I would reccomend GW, no monthly fee yet it plays similar to a MMORPG, and the PVP is some of the best ive played outside an FPS.

no monthly fee in GW? how exaclty will the game develop on par with outher games? i dont mean to play devil' advocate but this is news to me.

Since you're gonna have a lot of time on your hands, I'd recommend WoW over Guild Wars.

In fact even if you didn't have much time on your hands I'd recommend WoW over Guild Wars.

GW's non-persistant world relieves a whole lot of server stress which will allow them to include high end content with less server stress... I thought devils advocates did more research... oh well.

Take a look at their webpage (Guild Wars). Read their FAQ's and check out a few screen shots. Its not on store shelves yet, won't be until Feb 2005.

See, with people like you, it really doesn't matter what he wants in a game. You're going to reccomend WoW anyway. Generally when you reccomend a game, its good not to have a bias. I have yet to see a WoW fanboi reccomend a game other than WoW.

If you don't like any of the "pioneering" games a la EQ and DAoC, then there is not much to recommend, because all of the newer games feature same core game play, the same leveling grind and the same problems and issues. I cannot say anything about WoW as it is not released yet.

If you are looking for PvE, go for EQ2
If you are looking for PvP, go probably for WoW

If you are looking for a sci-fi setting, take a look at Eve Online, which got good to very good ratings everywhere, but somewhat falls into the "alternative" niche of MMORPGs.

    You're not making any sense.

Are you saying I should recommend something I don't like because if I recommend a game I like I'm biased? ::::12::

How come you're allowed to recommend Guild Wars (your game of choice), and I'm not allowed to recommend WoW (mine)?

And the next person who calls me a "Fanboi" can go boil themselves. "Fanboi"s are people who have an unwavering devotion to a particular company regardless of their output, so that rules me out. If Blizzard's next game after WoW is a piece of crap I won't play it, so I'm no "Fanboi".

Orcc, he is kind saying you do not make sense.. it is actually one of the most stupid things I have seen posted. Of course, we know what game you come from then.

You say, if someone say WoW, they are a fanboi. If someone say ANY OTHER GAME they are sensible people with well thought out advice? And this you think is proof of how sensible YOU are?!!

next time... Please keep your opinion to yourself. It smells...

As long as you are happy in DAoC, I would stay with that. If you want to try another PvP game out, then I would rec. Neocron. Although I am not into PvP myself, the people in Neocron are the BEST PvPers I have ever seen. Graphics are about the same as DAoC so your system should be able to handle it. I think you are right about EQ2 though. I think its just a matter of time before they come out with a PvP server. My guess is that you will see it within the next 6 months.

    thanks for the advice guys.

after thinking it over im not gonna jump into WoW when i already bought eq2 and have DAoC, it just seems to make more sense fiscally to stick with what i have and know about. however i plan to put a Feb deadline on EQ2.

if by the begining of Feb 2005, i dont have any credible sources of intelligence that will suggest atleast a moderate possibility of SOE coming out with a PvP server, than i will take a serious look into GWs.
