The latest update from Tasos on the Darkfall forums states that the shop will be open tomorrow at 3pm GMT when the Darkfall Client will be available, refutes claims of GM misconduct, and warns players on how to detect fraudulent ban notice emails.
There have been several bogus corruption accusations against the Darkfall GMs on these forums ranging from them causing clients to crash, causing server crashes while taking sides during sieges, to refunding items and money.
First of all GMs cannot crash the server, or cause a client to crash. They cannot create items or money. All their actions and communications are monitored and logged. We re-checked all chat logs and GM activity for every report mentioned in the forums or reported to us at the help desk, over the time periods that the questionable conduct was supposed to have taken place and found absolutely nothing. Because of this, any public accusations on the forums accusing GMs or the company of any such activities will be removed, and everyone contributing in the thread will be banned from the forums.
GM activity is always monitored by us. If you would like to report GM conduct, then you should use support.darkfallonline.com to do so if you have proof of misconduct.

MMOs currently playing: -
About to play: Lord of the Rings Online
Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)
Seems to be the trend in almost every MMO, but particularly with PVP oriented games.
Two groups fight, one side loses and is positive it has to be due to outside influences such as GM's.
Unfounded (and sometimes well founded) complaints fly and soon people start seeing evil GM's behind every action.
I'm not saying corruption doesn't happen, but its not nearly as widespread nor game impacting as some folks think they are.
Personally, I think its a bit harsh to ban everyone who has allegations of corruption, but hey, its their forums, they can do what they want.
But the good thing is, they can't do it here, so we'll still get to hear all the dirt.

This is a common excuse for many people in the Darkfall community. It originally stems from the fact that during the beta, some of the devs played in various guilds. People like to try to find an excuse to justify their own defeat, anything else besides being outplayed. You see it in FPS where good players get accused of hacks, and you se the same thing in Darkfall to a degree. There is a thread on the forums today where someone was claiming corrupt GM helped a side, and the rumor was quickly put to rest with a player screen shot proving it was not the case.

This has been going on with online gaming since the beginning. Early on, FPS games used to get raped by bot hackers, and so eventually anytime someone got spanked by a good player, they cried "Bot! Cheater! Hacker!", despite all the successful actions taken to eliminate bots. It still happens these days, but not as much. It got to the point where it was no fun to even be good at the games because people just accused you of cheating all the time.
The same thing is happening here. While I have no doubt people are trying to exploit Darkfall like they do all games, You can bet the vast majority of reports are complete B.S. from whiners who are sucked into the hype of bogus reports from other whiners, and want to use it as an excuse for their weak gaming skills. All of this crap is being fueled by smack talk online.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
I wonder how many copys they will sell?
And its kinda lame to blame someone else for a personal failure. Of course i have been temted to report any players that have ever ganked me, but thats different. Thats personal.
They didn't just say they were going to ban "everyone who maligned the GM's." They said they were going to ban "everyone who contributed to the thread." I find that even less fair than anything the GM's were accused of in those threads, because several people posted specifically to defend the GM's.
See how President Obama brings change to the Salvation Army!
3 more months.....
I see several people saying that accusations have been in gaming for a long time and its just an excuse for poor skills. I can not speak to darkfalls GM's but for every 9 false accusations there can be one true one. GM's do become corrupt and these things do happen. These people are just as human as anyone else and can be motivated by greed ,pride , money etc. Don't make the mistake thinking that corruption doesnt occur whether you want to believe it or not. Don't critisize too harshly because it can always happen to you someday and have nothing to do with your skillz.. It tends to happen in PvP games from obscure companies from small unregulated countries.
hmm I wonder want will happen when the game releases (properly). will anybody care by then? I think darkfall could be a pretty popular game if it was distributed properly and had more than one server. wonder if that will ever be the case tho, it will just die as a small project nobodies heard of despite a lot of potential because it never really came out of pay to play beta.
My blog:
Those reality show producers should be watching this, there is more silly drama and backstabbing here than any of their shows. Of course Tasos and his crowd have to take the low road. At least it is good for a decent laugh.
I think even reality tv producers have more dignity than to get involved in darkfail.
Is it sad when you call Mastercard to dispute an online charge and the rep asks "Darkfall advertising based refund?"?
but gms can kick you
the probloems that were accurring were a guild with a gm in it and every time there we to be attacked certain peopel on the oposing sides were kicked from the game, some with an emply box that were used for telling you why you were booted, thats why that was said before about gms helping out for thier ouw cause, i have never seen thi sbut i also dont care as i dont play anymore. i am just saying
Lol, people always have an excuse when the fail something, either its their mouse, they lagged, they used a spec from the net or something else.
A lot of people are bad losers but it seems odd to say that GMs helped one side... No GM is that stupid, not in any game.
That's not even the point. We know this can happen as seen most recently with EVE. However, if you are going to sit around and worry about GM's having some sort of advantage over you in the game, then you might as well not even play online games at all. Hackers and Macroers happen too. The most secure networks and applications in the world get hacked, so expecting an indy game dev to completely stop this with their product is ludicrous. They do what they can.
Furthermore, how hard can it be for Adventurine to restrict what a GM can and cannot do? I highly doubt some non-admin, minimum wage GM has full access to make the game engine do whatever magic they want to do.
The point is, these accusations and rumors take on a life of their own, and it gets to the point where most players use them as an excuse to complain about anything they don't like. I don't play this game, although I am following it because I have a general interest in MMO's. I have nothing invested in this when I tell you that people will find an excuse to whine about anything in online games. I've been watching it happen since Quake 1 came out 13 years ago.

All of their forum complaint issues come from the fact that they never policed their forum and seemed to encourage the rude and abusive posts and flame wars that went on.
Like lots here I have played lots of MMO's but never seen such a hostile forum full of abuse and insults as that one. If you havent got the game then reading the forums should tell you what the "chat" is like in-game.

Then they will have to boot the majority of the forum posters. I wonder how many will be left?

I totally agree with that, I have taken a look at the DFO website out of interest and I just couldn't believe the state of the forums.
Ppl post threads asking for help and usually the first respone tells them in no certain terms to clear off back to WoW, usually with the words carebear aswell, in fact it's the most over-used phrase on the site.
Nearly every thread has to resort to juvenile swearing, bad mouthing your mother or just plain idiotic.
I've seen a hand full of decent posts, but these then quickly get pounced on and the poor poster is then abused or mocked for brining up a serious point or issue.
Even worse as soon as someone has a compliant they are crucified.
It's the worse forum I have ever seen, I was actually going to give this game a go once things had settled but the DFO forums had made my mind up for me, plus this draconian censorship now being brought in by the leadership.

This is exactly why I tend to avoid most PvP centric MMO's. It attracts all the griefer punks in gaming. Even though I enjoy PvP, I hate dealing with all the jaggoffs running around yelling "carebear" all day. This is what Star Wars Galaxies has been reduced to since the NGE.

Wait, maybe i'm missing something here. You say you won't play the game based on how bad the forums are, you called it "idiotic", then you say the problem is worse now that they are trying to clean up the mess?
Maybe I missread your comments but it seems no matter what they do or don't do, nothing will be good enough for you.

You did misread his comment. He complained about the state of the forums, where all of this crap is going on, and Adventurine's answer is only based on one part of the forum goers in particular, and that's claiming GM corruption. What Adventurine is doing has nothing to do with the rest of the griefers on the forums. If they really cared about censorship, they'd try to do more than just say "How dare you claim we're not perfection personified?"
Isn't it the job of mods to find these claims and prove them false, rather than say any and all such claims will result in a ban? Why even have forums if they're just going to pigeonhole such common complaints into one single punishment?
I fail to understand why they should "care for censorship". This is not a Disney game.
Also, people always go to forums to bitch. The people enjoying the game are playing it, not whining.
The game's not for everyone...it's a simple as that. If you are easily offended, or think everything needs to be "fair" or "balanced", don't even THINK about Darkfall.
On top of all the other issues DFO has to deal with, its a shame that something like this has come up.
GM's can and do become corrupt or abuse power. I have seen it in SWG (pre NGE of course) and in a couple other games. Ususally such GM's are immediatly dismissed.
though its good for development staff to play the game with players to understand the issues they should not play with a GM status. anyone that is a GM should not play as a guild member. Harder to do in a game like this where there is only a single server.
Though I did beta and decided it was not a game for me a few of my friends find it very enjoyable. Others are waiting to see if there will be a NA server opened up.
Banning all the poster though seems a bit on the extreme side
The the gms of darkfall even paid?
Last time i heard they just volenteered for the position.
Regardless the people who post such accusations on their forums are just the whiners. people really affected by a curropt gm would have taken it to the support thingy that was linked and take pics/fraps the event from happeneing.
Now this seems to become a problem with a small indy company like av. So much shits going on, bugs need fixing, game issures, new content, checking logs for real gm corruption, following up on macroers / hackers and so on.
This is starting to wear thin the small amount of people aval to them.
Soon things not that important will be completely ignored or placed on the player base to enforce it.
1 server is driving em wild, now imagine 2 or 3, thats even more data and logs they need to track ect. they are going to need much more personel.
Watching Fanbois drop their soap in a prison full of desperate men.
First of all isn't Tasos the same guy who promised way more then the game delivered? Even the fans admitt it is nothing of what they promised. The same guy who wrote off hackers/exploiters as just a myth then later says hackers/exploiters are being dealt with? Yet they are still running rampant. Same guy who said the VM leak was fixed? Yet numerous posts on the forums as well as my own experience say otherwise.
As my grandma used to say: "Once a liar, always a liar" So as far as this guy is concerned, he has no credit with the general population.
GMs are people too, easily influenced. I always held a hefty respect for GMs until I heard rumors about the EVE GMs manipulating the economy and playing favorites a while back while I was playing. "NO WAY!" I've said, well guess what? It ended up being true. So to say it is impossible is only living in denial.
Now if it was another MMO other then DF, I'd probably just dismiss the rumors as just that: "rumors." But this is a game that has double billed me, and after 2 weeks everything they were denying I found to be true the hard way. From hackers/exploiters to server crashes and a VM leak that supposedly was fixed. So right there I have to give the shouts of "cheat" some validity. Sure there will be some people to exagerate, and the "haters" will jump on the opportunity to bash a game that has burnt them.
But if the customer service is THIS bad: www.dslreports.com/forum/r22180009-Darkfall-Drama-is-their-customer-support-that-bad
And the forums are HORRID.
And the website hasn't been updated in ages.
And they did all of this in 8 years of development.
Then not only is the community rotten, but the staff as well has some issues to man up to.
