I fail to understand why they should "care for censorship". This is not a Disney game. Also, people always go to forums to bitch. The people enjoying the game are playing it, not whining. The game's not for everyone...it's a simple as that. If you are easily offended, or think everything needs to be "fair" or "balanced", don't even THINK about Darkfall.
The crux of a successful MMORPG is customer support. Being "nice" to users is not a lame thing to do, but rather something all companies should try to do, as they need to keep their customers happy to ensure a continuing success. Pissing players off will only kill a game, case in point NGE SWG (not that I've played much of SWG, this is just from observation).
People may go on the forums to "bitch", but several of them have legitimate complaints, and it's serving to hinder their pleasure in playing the game. In other words, they could be enjoying the game, but they can't, so they're bringing it to the attention of the mods. It's true they should be bringing it to the attention of Aventurine specifically, but there's a better chance of getting a clear, honest answer in the forums, rather than some form letter sent to them.
I think your last couple of lines is rather alienating. If Aventurine took such a stance as yours, doubtless they would have zero players. Offensive, unfair, unbalanced gameplay would not draw anyone in.

To a point. But there is a limit you see. Sometimes, it's best just to let the players that will bitch, bitch. SWG you see, is a great example...the DEVs listened to the players TOO MUCH, and ruined the game as a result. AV doesn't cater to whiners, and I applaud them for it.

The mods aren't the Devs. The Devs don't answer posts on the forum. crying on teh forum therefore does no good. Just as posting info about exploits on teh forum will get your post locked or deleted..it's not he proper way to handle the situation.

The Devs DID take the stance I described...or they would have made another WoW clone. Instead, they made an open-pvp full loot virtual world....pretty much excluding all the carebe....err....mainstream MMORPG players right off the bat. But a lot of people don't understand, buy the game, and end up quitting in a week or two, blaming the game. It's not the game's fault....they just didn't understand what they were getting into. An open pvp game is a different animal than a lot of these people are used to...they think they can hack it, but they havn't been ganked 4 times in an hour yet, laughed at, and looted.
Simulated life in a barbaric medieval time IS offensive, nowhere NEAR fair, and VERY unbalanced. The strong prey on the weak..it's survival of the fittest. There's nothing pretty about it...nothing kind. You either claw your way up the foodchain, or you quit. The game's not going to change for you.

Who said anything about "smart or dumb", and what exactly is the yardstick by which you are measuring these things?
No, Open PVP and full loot are nothng NEW....but there hasn't been a major game with these features in a very long time. Long enough that most MMO players these days have never experienced a game of this nature, and don't REALLY know what to expect. They may think they do, but the amount of people quitting and "going back to WoW / Vangard / Etc" demonstrates that they really don't.
As far as your final statement goes....yeah, there are some cheaters. they are in almost every game of this type. I doubt that there are as many as people are making it out to be....people get pwned, and claim that their killer was hacking....when in reality they just lost a fight.
Trolls and haters would have you believe that every second person is hacking or 'sploiting....but really, this is simply not the case.
All of their forum complaint issues come from the fact that they never policed their forum and seemed to encourage the rude and abusive posts and flame wars that went on. Like lots here I have played lots of MMO's but never seen such a hostile forum full of abuse and insults as that one. If you havent got the game then reading the forums should tell you what the "chat" is like in-game.
I totally agree with that, I have taken a look at the DFO website out of interest and I just couldn't believe the state of the forums.
Ppl post threads asking for help and usually the first respone tells them in no certain terms to clear off back to WoW, usually with the words carebear aswell, in fact it's the most over-used phrase on the site.
Nearly every thread has to resort to juvenile swearing, bad mouthing your mother or just plain idiotic.
I've seen a hand full of decent posts, but these then quickly get pounced on and the poor poster is then abused or mocked for brining up a serious point or issue.
Even worse as soon as someone has a compliant they are crucified.
It's the worse forum I have ever seen, I was actually going to give this game a go once things had settled but the DFO forums had made my mind up for me, plus this draconian censorship now being brought in by the leadership.
Wait, maybe i'm missing something here. You say you won't play the game based on how bad the forums are, you called it "idiotic", then you say the problem is worse now that they are trying to clean up the mess?
Maybe I missread your comments but it seems no matter what they do or don't do, nothing will be good enough for you.
"Plus this draconian censorship now being brought in by the leadership" pertains to the banning of forum members for bringing to account GM's on the official board and anyone who adds their own comments, THAT is something that no matter how messed up a board is should not be tolerated by the members.
GM's are human, they make mistakes and not being able to air your grievances if you have been dealt with incorrectly by a GM on an open forum is wrong.
That is an entirely different argument to having a board that is "Anti-Social" as I was commenting on in the majority of my post, the measures are still not there to moderate the board correctly.
I have been playing the game since week 2 (bought my account from someone that couldn't handle it). Let me first start off by saying this game does have probalems: lack of tools to builds things (fluff) and massive grind are some of the problems. AV has been working to fill most of the holes that allowed exploits, some still exist but if you've played MMO pre WoW:BC then you know that fixing all these issues usually take longer than a month or two even with an extensive beta.
Now the hack reports are greatly exggargetated. I've run into 2 hackers since I've been playing: visiting most areas where PvP happens on a regular basis and reading all siege reports. What some people call hacking, most of the time, especiallly speed hacking, are just people who got killed by someoen who has better skills, higher level, knoweldgable about the game, and/or have better ping. For instance, a player who is naked or in light armor with max run and sprit and high quickness will run faster and longer than a person who doesn't. If you want an example ther is a rumor going around on the forums that peopel who use speed hacks are setting it to a 5% increase. Come on, seriously?
It is painfully obvious when someone is speed hacking, they zip across the screen. Teleport hacks are obvious too; however, there is a built in game mechanic that allows you to teleport to marked locations. Players have basically congerated around certain areas to do PvP or PvE becaus of guard towers or mobs have better drops. It's not suprising that people have these places marked to teleport too, legitly, in order to get an easy kill. Does teleporting hacking exist? Yes. Is it rampant? Hardly.
IMO, the amount of hacking and exploiting isn't any wose in DFO than other online games. The difference with DFO is that since its a full loot PvP game its more noticable because people actually lose something when they die. This is combined with the fact that peopel will find any way to absolve themselves of responsibility for their faliures. Its human nature, especially with people in the age group that MMOs target and espeically with men.
The the gms of darkfall even paid? Last time i heard they just volenteered for the position. Regardless the people who post such accusations on their forums are just the whiners. people really affected by a curropt gm would have taken it to the support thingy that was linked and take pics/fraps the event from happeneing. Now this seems to become a problem with a small indy company like av. So much shits going on, bugs need fixing, game issures, new content, checking logs for real gm corruption, following up on macroers / hackers and so on. This is starting to wear thin the small amount of people aval to them. Soon things not that important will be completely ignored or placed on the player base to enforce it. 1 server is driving em wild, now imagine 2 or 3, thats even more data and logs they need to track ect. they are going to need much more personel.
Most GM's are not paid.. and most games have differeing levels of GM ability. The way they get around abuse often is that GMs CANNOT have a character on the server they do GM work on. Of course in this game thats not possible.
Yes I think its best official channels are used. but perhaps folks feel thier reports are being ignored so they took it to the public.
I hope they hold off releasing an NA server or any additional server till they get many of these issues addressed. Sadly though the people playing it now essentially are paying to play a Beta.

I don't understand what's wrong with waiting until everything is ready to go before releasing a title. If you don't have enough money to handle the kind of work that goes into it, and risk bankruptcy because of it, then you shouldn't have been trying to do something so expensive in the first place.
You know what would have solved most of these issues? An open beta. True, the billing side of things wouldn't have been solved, but at least exploits would have been discovered before the game was released, and squashed. Also, most difficulties dealing with a large server population would have been ironed out, seeing as an open beta would probably have several thousand players at once.
Then again, they promised an open beta, and there was nothing of the sort. So, yeah, people are paying to play a beta, because they skipped over that part to make a release date they shouldn't have set in the first place.
Why make the player base suffer through an incomplete game?
Why even make it an MMORPG? Why not just develop something along the lines of Mount & Blade before going directly to the kind of responsibility attached to an MMO? At least in the Western world, there hasn't really been a company that has launched a long-lasting MMORPG as their first title. They usually start off with single-player games before moving up to such a time-consuming process as developing an MMO.
The Devs DID take the stance I described...or they would have made another WoW clone. So effectively you are saying DF is nothing spectacular. Its you that is spectacularly starving and craving for a ffa pvp full loot game, so much so you will take DF for whatever form it is.
Fair enough. I am not interested in ffa pvp for one, totally put off by the ridiculous business sense of AV, and totally disgust at the few irrational persons here who proclaimed to be DF players. So I do not share the zeal you have with this DF game.
Normally, there are plenty of each type. There should be a few people who say "This game is not for me, so I won't buy it" and a bucket load of people who say "This game is not for me, so it sucks." In the case of Darkfall, I see only the latter and none of the former. That tells me that in this case, it just might actually suck. Bombs do happen, you know.

Canceled on day 1 and went back to UO. Since they hand out random bans of the forum I can only assume the game is no different.

Nice!
That is what people should think about any MMO. "This MMO is not for me, i wont get it." Simple.
Instead we hear "This game was not for me, it sucks!" Stupid.
following the thread links to the Hack videos,

i knew it was bad but jezuz the breadth and depth of cheating is just mind boggling.
