The Chronicles of Spellborn: Game Launched in North America

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

Today, Acclaim announced the official launch of The Chronicles of Spellborn, offering players two free weeks of premium subscription.

Los Angeles, CA (April 23, 2009) – Acclaim Games is pleased to announce the official release of The Chronicles of Spellborn MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). To celebrate the official launch, Acclaim will offer all players a free 2 week premium subscription, along with the introduction of a new credit card payment option for added convenience. With the official release, players are invited to join the fun in one of the most innovative MMORPG’s on the market featuring a unique real-time combat system that truly sets the game apart!

Acclaim now offers a new credit card payment option to easily purchase premium subscriptions online using a major credit card! With the addition of this new purchase option, players have the option of buying premium subscriptions with either a major credit card or Acclaim Coins, the universal virtual currency used for all Acclaim games. Those who purchase with Acclaim Coins can also take advantage of the special introductory discount pricing, offered for a limited time only.

To commemorate the release, a special launch promotion will be available from April 23 to May 7 offering a FREE 2 week premium subscription for all new and existing players giving everyone a chance to evaluate the game and experience the unique real-time combat system of Spellborn. New players must register between April 23 and May 7 to get the free subscription.

“We meet with the gamers every week to discuss Spellborn, they tell us the fighting system is the most amazing thing about the game. The idea being that your ‘moment-to-moment’ control during battle, mixed with your own custom skill deck gives endless possibilities. To see a smart level 5 player take down a level 15 player is something that SHOULD be possible in MMOs, and is something that really good players deserve to be able to do!”, says David Perry the USA Director for the Spellborn Project.

Once players download and install the game for free, they can choose between a PvE (Player vs Environment) server called “Dorzhan” and a PvP (Player vs Player) server called “Deiquonril” for a more intense combat experience.

In all regions, Spellborn will be a “Freemium” game, with a Free to Play zone and a required premium subscription service in order to access the full game past the Free to Play zone. The Spellborn game client is completely free to download and install from the official website. For game updates check the website http://spellborn.acclaim.com or follow the Spellborn twitter at http://twitter.com/tcos

Acclaim will provide Spellborn game service to players in North America, South America, United Kingdom, Albania, Andorra, Australia/New Zealand, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Serbia & Montenegro, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey.

I see...and now that it's released in NA is it worth for you to be put under "released games" while it was sorted "in development" before?

Hint: It was released in several european countries weeks ago -but in some narrow minds the world only consist of the USA. Reminds me of the americans wondering if people in Europe can as well see the moon from there.

You know i had been following this game for a while and got put off by the fact that Europe has been split and we in the UK have to deal with Acclaim.

After seeing that it had lauched i thought i would go and check out the prices.........what can i say Acclaim are taking the mickey for the subs:

30 days: 12.99 Euros which is about 13 pounds,  more expensive than any other P2P MMO i have seen for a while.

For the Acclaim coins: 1500 coins for 30 days which i think works out to about 7 euros.

Are they trying to kill the game, i dont know if others are like me but i wouldn't choose the coin option and i won't pay that for a sub fee when there are other games that are IMO better and cheaper.  I just feel sorry for the developers as the game was great till they made the launch decisions.

    Sorry for the rant.

Subtlety here notwithstanding, I have explained before the reason that the game wasn't listed as released previously. Simply put, MMORPG.com is based in the North American market. We try to cater to everyone, NA and Euro players alike, but when we make decisions about what games are launched and what games are not, we have to use a measuring stick by which we can judge that. In the end, it comes down to this for us: is the game available in the North American market? Up until today, the answer to that question was no. North American players did not have access to the game. It was therefore listed as in development.

I'll also respond to your hint by saying that the north American market also consists of more than just the USA. Canada too, falls into that category. So, for me, being Canadian, I'm well aware that there's more to the world than the USA. The bottom line though is that where business is concerned, Europe and North America are two completely different markets. We had to choose one to serve as our benchmark and since North America is where we are located, we logically chose that.

Hope that clears thigns up for you.

Bunky, if you're going to make a post that adds nothing substantive to the discussion and then choose to casually insult your nation of choice in a language spoken by most of that nation's natives, could you make an effort to do so properly? I know it's oftimes difficult to avoid falling into the LOLMERICANS ball-crawl at the playground, but at least you could do so with a modicum of style and grace.

If you support or like TCoS, there's probably other, better ways of formenting interest than harrassing the folks who run a free-content site for a very hectic and ever-changing hobby.

Hint: Beginning a sentence with a condescending label is absolutely excellent form and a wonderful extension of your already superb style. Keep up the good work.

Oh enough already with your Anti-American/America against the world bullshit attitude.

    You make me sick.

Now that TCoS is 100% officially released hopefully more players will jump on the two week free trial.

    Playing: EvE, Ryzom

    NA is not a nation.

You may want to spell check yourself before posting insults.

Its more than that because the 1500 coins for 30 days is only special intro price its normaly 1800 coins which at the moment they are doing a deal u can get 1880 coins for £10 but thats a deal meaning when it runs out u will have to get the next coin package up which is £15 but! if you want you can get a 30% discount it will just cost you £10 a month for the cheapest acclaim membership. so what ever way you look at it I'm sticking with the main stream mmo's i play so thats two mmo's im playing for the same cost of this mmo lol

Actually just found out, that i can sidestep Acclaim, and download and play on the EU servers, me happy now....downloading the F2P client just now.

Hopefully the game is good as i am looking for a new home.

Anyone else who wants to play on the EU side of things go to: https://eu-players.tcos.com/

    Register and download.

Before anyone says anything i have nothing against NA players would just like to play with people who are in the same timezone.

What's up with the free 2 week trial?  I thought they were doing F2P zones or am I thinking of another game?  Or is that just the EU version and not NA?

Any word on whether this game will run on Windows 7 yet?  I tried to set up the Spellborn beta a couple of months ago and the root kit (Game Guard) won't install on Windows 7.  I would be happy to pay to play but would like to know if it will install for me before spending any money.

    Thanks for any info,

The trial still exists. But, for a limited time only, new players will get a free 2 week subscription if they register between April 23 and May 7. Existing members will have 2 weeks added to their sub to celebrate the launch. It's all on the front page of the site.

There is a supposed workaround but nothing official just yet.

They are aware of the need to support Spellborn on W7 and are working on it. Unfortunately there is no ETA.

I just checked the credit card option and it says 14.99 USD for 30 days. Maybe you looked at the wrong place?

Your statement says more about your skewered view of the world around you than anything else.

What you stated is opinion so it holds no weight.  The way you expressed your opinion says alot about your view of the world and it isn't good.

You have hurt no one but yourself.
