Was it not long ago that some poster claimed all the fanboi posts were from Norway and Texas? This is the first I've heard of some funcom employee being caught trolling the DarkFall forums. Is there links or a username so I can read up on this?
Sorry I don't have a link and I'm too lazy to find it but if you are interested in that incident I suggest you go on official Darkfall and ask one of the regulars. I'm sure they can help you.
I'm not just making this up. I saw the thread and the screenshots myself. Someone inside Funcom Headquarters was bashing Darkfall and telling how great AoC. I doubt it was the cleaning lady.
Blizzard employee's also check these forums daily, I assume same thing goes with them right?
Why do we always have to make everything about Blizzard? Yes, of course Blizzard employees are doing the same thing, just like every other MMO company out there. Even if everyone is doing it, it doesn't make it right. However I believe Blizzard is doing it less because they have a REAL marketing budget and REAL marketing like TV-ads and such.
Viral marketing is usually done by smaller companies like Funcom and Aventurine. Go visit Darkfall forums, same thing is happening there but not as much as on this forum. Age of Conan viral marketing is something I have never seen before.
Also it has to do with the quality of product. Blizzard has an awesome product so they don't really need to spread lies in forums. Satisfied customers are doing all the word-of-mouth Blizzard needs. But with inferiour products like Age of Conan or Darkfall viral marketing is much more important. Since almost all REAL word-of-mouth is negative, they need to balance it out somehow to avoid total failure. And they do it by sending in these viral marketers.
People here always ask for proof. Well.. Funcom has been PROVEN to have done viral marketing in the past. This is a fact. Read my previous post above and you will get a few examples.
For the record I don't play WoW nor do I like it but it has 11 million subscriptions so obviously they are doing something right.
That's the most bull I have ever read in my life lol.
When it comes to Aventurine. Aventurine doesn't have to do nor pay anyone a dime.
It were just a group of gamers who took the meaning FAN to a religious level and created so much hate, because of these religious fanatics spamming other game forums all over the internet in how their game sucks so bad and how Darkfal was going to WTFPAWN every MMO out there.
This created such a heated and debated warzone on the internet wich was basically all the free publicity Aventurine could get without doing a thing nor spending a dime for it.
Sure there were some group of players in the Age of Conan community that were quite fanatic, but far from that fanatic as those religious fans from Darkfal.
Every MMO out there, from SWG to EverQuest 2 to World of Warcraft to Warhammer Online to Age of Conan has a group of passionate fans.
Nothing wrong with that.
But I have yet up til today have see any clear proof of viral marketeers that are paid by an MMO company to bash other games and praise theirs.
Simply because it's totally unnessessary, as there are plenty of gamers out there (trolls and fans) doing it totally for free.
Blizzard employee's also check these forums daily, I assume same thing goes with them right?

Anyone who posts about the game here in a positive ways are more or less accused for doing viral marketing for Funcom, and that trend is a bit interesting. Why is it that more or less everyone posting something positive is indirectly being accused for doing viral marketing?
Are people with a positive experience not allowed to post? Are they not allowed to base their opinion about the game based on their experience? Like when the trials came and we saw people come here and post about they liked the game you would see people disliking the game do anything they could to tell them the game isn't good. Some of them were even told they must be working for funcom or straight out lying to the community as they clearly didn't know what they were talking about. These forums isn't a easy forum to get into for new people that have a positive experience about AoC since the chance there is a more or less hostile feeling among a lot of itæs users to anyone posting positive things about Funcom. I find this part a bit sad and funny at the same time, sad that new users to the forum is automaticly being called thing if they are positive, but if someone with a fresh account comes and post negative things about AoC that seems to be more or less ok.
I would very much like to see the proof you have about funcom being caught for doing viral marketing, I have no doubt it has happened, but I do doubt it is a large scale operation where everyone in Funcom does so. But you said MMORPG.com has posted threads abvout it so please give me the link as I would find it interesting to read up on it.
And just to make it clear I' ain't employed by funcom, neither do I know anyone working there. I have posted both good and bad things about AoC so I'm not one of your average fanbis that are blind about the truth. I will however discuss anything I find interesting simply because I like to discuss. I do "attack" a lot of the negative posts simply because they can give a fun discussion.
Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC) On my radar: TSW, MO MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom
I don't believe there's people being paid to advertise games in forums pretending to be regular gamers with honest intentions giving false reviews about the state of the game. What I believe is that there are fanboys who spend a lot of time defending the positives of their game of election and there are trolls attacking the game based on outdated information. But to be honest, I find to be more normal for a fan to spend his time defending a game than a troll spending his time to attack a game.
I will give you one example.
A couple of months ago, before Darkfall had come out, there was this rabid "hater" on Darkfall forums. All he did was say how much Darkfall sucks and how much better AoC is.
Forum mods tracked this users IP and guess what? The IP was in Funcom headquarters. That's right. Not just Oslo, Norway, but inside Funcom headquarters. Mods posted pictures as proof. Is the what you call a "conspiracy theory"?
Another example.
A couple of days before WAR came out, we had many new posters who posted about 30 posts a day, half of them on WAR forums saying how much WAR sucks, half of them on AoC forums telling how great AoC is. This is honestly all they did. You could instantly sense that they didn't have any interest in having a real discussion, all they did was bash WAR or praise AoC. This is not how "regular gamers" behave and the timing (just before WAR launch) was not a coincidence.
Viral marketing is happening all around us and I pity those individuals who are so naive that they think it isn't happening.
For the first example, I believe that it's possible for a Funcom employee to have that behavior although I'm certain he's not getting paid to do that. His behavior can be considered that of a fanboy/troll altogether but definitely not a marketing move from Funcom.
For the second example, you're just describing the typical fanboy/troll behavior. I know there are aoc players defending AoC and bashing other games, but there's also fanboy's of other games bashing AoC. So it's not like AoC players are the only ones having a troll behavior. I've seen countless posts in the AoC forums of ppl attacking this game and on other forums defending their game of choice.
Blizzard employee's also check these forums daily, I assume same thing goes with them right?

There is a difference in posting something positive, and posting overly positive crap and/or attacking anyone who is saying something negative. I really enjoy when sometimes someone writes something honest and positive about the game. I respect that. It's their opinion and they have a right to say it. But when viral marketers LIE in a way that evyryone who plays know they are lying, that's not cool.
One good example is viral marketers who claim AoC has 200-300k+ subscriptions when it has been proven and confirmed by Craig that they have 100k.

Can you please point me to this evidence as I find it very hard to believe without proper facts. I'm sorry but I won't just take someone's word that this is fact without proper evidence.
Oh yeah and you said that people doesn't have to whip out SPSS to prove their argument when discussing things in a forum like this. I beg to differ. If you say 2/3, 66,6% or any other specific number in any other specific case you should be able to back that up with hard facts. If you can't then don't mention any specifics. If you can't scientifically prove your point it's based on personal feelings, hearsay or opinions. That's perfectly fine, but don't expect people to accept your unproven opinion as fact.
By the way; yes I'm Norwegian. Does that exclude my opinions on this game in this forum?

Like I said to another poster, I don't have a link for that Funcom-Darkfall viral marketing incident. If you want to see the thread and the screenshots, go to official Darkfall forums and find it yourself or ask someone to help you. If you are not going to do that, you'll just have to take my word for it. If that's not enough for you then I can honestly say that I couldn't care less.
Norwegian or not, of course you have a right be here just like me. But surely you find it strange that there are so many Norwegian posters here? Or are you one of those people who think Funcom devs don't have accounts here? Their jobs are on the line, and even though viral marketing here might save Funcom from bankrupcy, devs don't bother to spend a couple of minutes a day and come here to post positive propaganda about AoC? Yeah, right..
I'm a norwegian, and I can assure you that 95 percent of the ex-conan players i played with from my country now despises this game...passionately. We all moved to different games when we saw that behind the facade there was a very weak product.
Norwegian or not, the game is a complete joke, and the company itself has shown the mmo-community how not to treat their playerbase.

Dont listen to this guy. I lived in Norway until reciently, and everyone is playing AoC. They have specific courses in school that teach it, and even a TV show that lets you watch raids and stuff on NRK 2. There was a rally in Bergen a few months ago of people that didn't like the game, and the Buekorps (child army) pulled out their weapons, and forced them all into the sea.
If you go to Oslo S, they built a huge statue of Gaute Godager, and Erling is up for election to be the new Prime Minster. I have even heard talk about Ragnar leading a coup, and taking the throne.... But that is hush hush.

Everything he says is the truth
In norway we have replaced Christianity with Funcom, simply because we love them that much.

I love your sarcasm in here. But be careful, the trolls and conspiracy guys might take your word for it and believe it 100%.

I love it when someone says something funny and then these wannabe comedians come, take your joke and try to continue it with their own "funny" stuff. It's really painful to watch. Just look at the three guys who posted after Rallycart.
Remember kids, comedy is difficult and shouldn't be used by everyone.

You know what really strikes me as comedy. As we are talking about conspiracies here now anyway.
Some days ago some dude called Shillz showed up on the forums after months of absence and started on a bashing rampage on the Age of Conan forums. That's all he did. Out of the blue.
That stopped all the sudden (probably because he got banned) at 4/17/09 5:50 PM.
Then at 4/17/09 7:20 PM some other dude called GiveMePvP shows up (also after long absence) starting on his bashing rampage against Age of Conan. That is all he does. Out of the blue.

Nice little conspiracy theory you have there. Lol you even wrote down specific times. Now that's dedication!
You know posts like that are against the RoC and could get you banned? But don't worry, I'm not going to report you. You amuse me too much.
Keep me informed how your investigation is going, ok?

Has nothing to do with dedication. Only took me a couple minutes to figure that out.
I just find it sad, that these two persons have something in common:
The only contribution they bring to these forums is bashing and trolling the same game. A game you don't like.
Most people on these forums at least take part in "real" discussions about a variarity of games and so contribute to this site.

His investigation is about as solid as yours are when it comes to funcom employee's coming here on new accounts frequently posting how good the game is. :P
Both are made on assumptions rather then solid proof.

Just an observation.
Cheers
It took you only a couple of minutes to figure that out? Wow, your conspiracy finding skills are amazing! You should have been investigating Watergate.
I guess when you really WANT to find conspiracies, it doesn't take more than a couple of minutes

Do you love it, or do you find it painful...or do you love the pain? Does your arrogance and all the e-peen flexing make you confused? Well, I sure am.

Yeah you got me there. I knew that it didn't make much sense when I wrote it but I was loo lazy to change it.
It's more actually pain than love. I feel shame for these people and every time I read something like that I die a little inside. It's like all those idiots who go around saying "I'm Rick James, bitch!" thinking they are funny or as cool as Dave Chappelle. In life and in comedy there are leaders and then there are dumbass followers.
What I've seen there are a lot of Norwegian people on this forum. About 25% of the regular posters are from Oslo, Norway, which is very strange since Oslo has only a population of 575k. Think about it. Such a small country and still so many posters. This lead me to thinking. Is Age of Conan hugely popular in Norway? Is this the reason why we have so many posters from Oslo? Or is there some other reason?
I don't think 25% of the posters on this forum at MMORPG.com is from Norway. -.-

Seems that you haven't paid much attention on school either as you maths don't really hold up here either.

Cheers

Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC)
On my radar: TSW, MO
MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside
MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom

Aren't people more likely to cheer for the local sports team, even if they aren't very good.
I will give you one example.

Norwegian or not, the game is a complete joke, and the company itself has shown the mmo-community how not to treat their playerbase.
Take it from me - Burn your AoC-copy!

Praize Funcom. The infidels must be punished!!

I find that intrigueing. Nothing further to say.

Just an observation.
Cheers

His investigation is about as solid as yours are when it comes to funcom employee's coming here on new accounts frequently posting how good the game is. :P
Both are made on assumptions rather then solid proof.

It took you only a couple of minutes to figure that out? Wow, your conspiracy finding skills are amazing! You should have been investigating Watergate.
I guess when you really WANT to find conspiracies, it doesn't take more than a couple of minutes

I don't think 25% of the posters on this forum at MMORPG.com is from Norway. -.-
