It will probebly be the day me getting back into MMORPG's, for now movement is far to limited, even with tech that does allow more things to do for some reason it keeps being left behind.
Doesn't it ad to becoming more immersive within the gameworld?, doesn't it open lots and lots of more possibility's then being stuck like a magnet to the ground?, or if lucky have some ackward jumping where certain stones on the ground not higher then your foot seem to high to even be able to jump over them.
Now I know this is not possible.....yet...in a MMORPG as it's just starting of with singleplayer games, but eventually I really want that type of character moves and climb/walk/run on what ever you see fit as being possible to climb upto.
I don't want a Damnation MMORPG, just pure talking about the movement thru terrain in the way they show in the dev dairy.
What do you think?, or are most okay with character movement and feel it adds nothing to immersion? share your thoughts........
Also not asking what people feel about the game but asking what people feel about character movement within a MMORPG, and gave the clip as a example of what I would really love seeing it in a MMORPG.

I didn't really see anything in that video that hasn't already been done in games like Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia. All they have done is melded it with a pure FPS environment. Nothing really new or special about this game that I can see.
Edit: As for seeing this kind of character movement in a MMO I don't see it happening anytime soon. This would mostly be window dressing and would take up feature space that could be better spent on more important things. The more they dress up a game the less features it will have. Movement like this is more suited for single player games where the only real features are kill or be killed and a single over-riding storyline. With MMOs you have many intertwined story lines(Quests) and many more character features (Level progression, multitudes of differing gear, many more mob types and a much bigger world space to name a few). If they added this type of movement to a MMO they would have to shave off somthing else that may be more important to a MMO player than being able to jump off a ledge or scale a wall.

I geuss you are not seeing how much more options/feature''s/possility's that could come of this.
Of course I want every other feature in a MMORPG to work, be polished, be stable, be enjoyeble, also like in my OP I know it aint possible yet to see it done within a MMORPG, of course there is so much more that needs to be improved before we can see something like this.
Eventually when tech catches up I would suprised to not see such movement becoming more general in what ever genre of games, and we will laugh out loud to see the limited character movement we see today.
I do wonder what made you think I want this as the only working feature in a MMORPG? kinda strange when this topic is pure and alone about movement of character within a MMORPG with a clip example from a singleplayer game in how I would eventualy like to see that movement.
I could see this to a limited degree. In an MMO with dozens or hundreds of players in the same general area all clamboring and hopping all over the place I think it simply wouldn't scale. I say that in the same way that I don't think that sparkly magic effects scale. I think it's kinda nice to see the sparklies in a single player game, but when you've got 20 people hammering monsters with sparklies, you end up with a blob of sparkles and not much else. If you like sparkles, how do you feel about seeing dozens of people jumping around in World of Warcraft like a pack of frightened gazelles?
I'd like to see slow-motion martial-arts style weapon moves incorporated into an MMO. Take your favorite martial arts movie with weapons that shows the fight in slow motion and that's what I'm thinking about. That involves moves for melee, but not as much for movement.
Would it be great to selectively use those moves? Sure. Having a horde of monsters or player characters scaling a cliff for the castle assault would be a sight. But having people climbing all over the buildings in downtown Whoville won't be nearly as enjoyable. So I would fear how players would end up using the ability.
I can't see games advancing the graphics to the brink of realism while continuing to use clunky movement systems. The movement systems have got to advance as well. As do other elements of gameplay.
Imagine an MMO where you are running up the side of a mountain and there is a city of cyclops at the top, and then they start throwing rocks at you and you're manually dodging them left and right but they then they start charging at you. You know they're going to bludgeon you to bits and panic sets in.
But then you see a slight ledge on the rock wall beside you and you just know safety is one jump away... one perfectly timed jump...
So you start running and one of the cyclops closes in between you and the ledge. You ready your jump and ZOOM! You clear the cyclops and as you careen toward the ledge, you spin around mid-air and fire a flaming arrow into his back. Your enemy drops to the ground and you're relatively safe on the ledge, easily dodging a hurled boulder here and there, while quickly vanquishing your enemy.
That would be frikken awesome.
I would call it "Level 8s at Monouga Hill Near Zaikhal in 1999 Online"
- RPG Quiz - can you get all 25 right?
- FPS Quiz - how well do you know your shooters?
It could make for some pretty awesome scenes. Escaping city guards, stealing someone's wallet and taking off with it in an epic chase, seeing the flickering light ontop the mountains and there is only the hard way to get up there, just to name a few.
If this was implemented into an MMO though, either a large focus of the game would need to be centered around the movement, or some sort of athletics / acrobatics skill would need to be in place. Otherwise everyone would just be flipping around everywhere and no roads or doors would ever be used.
