My laptop, with its ATI Rage Mobility graphics is super awsomely fast.....not.
I like everything about it but its so slow.
I want to swap out the motherboard and video for something better like a Dual Core and Nvidia graphics
Its a Compaq Armada m700.
Anyone know if I can do this? Ive found some boards on Ebay but they are not for my laptop.
Has anyone put a differernt board into their laptop? They are all pretty much the same right? It is with PCs and apparently Macs too.
alls i wanna do is play WoW on my laptop.

It doesn't quite work like that... In short, you need to buy a new laptop. To the best of my knowledge, they dont really sell parts made for laptops other than RAM, and even then, not all laptops support the ability to add new ram. Also, you would need to disassemble the entire laptop, and even an expert will tell you that it is a roll of the dice if your laptop will ever work again, even if you don't change anything. Laptops are just too cramped to be worked on like that. And, the parts would be so expensive (because you would more than likely need to replace everything) that it would not be cost effective.

You do not upgrade laptop motherboards.
It just doesn't work that way 99.9999% of the time.

A desktop can be rebuilt again and again with minimal effort and reasonable cost. A laptop is not designed the same way.
So unless you're going to show us you bought all the parts for a new laptop off tigerdirect and built it yourself cheaper than buying the same laptop, learn about the subject at hand before throwing lame sarcastic responses out.
It still amazes me that people buy laptops and expect to either be able to upgrade them or be able to do any serious gaming. There are some pretty hardcore laptops out there that can do some reasonable gaming. I know both Asus and Alienware makes them plus a few others but they cost an arm and a leg. The vast majority of laptops are simply not designed to be upgraded or game on. I'm surprised however you can't play WoW. That game has such redicioulus low requirements it's not even funny you can probably play it on a lawnmower
My buddy has a top of the line Alienware laptop but since the native resolution on the screen is 1920x1080 even with the hardware in there you can't run it at all high settings in most games. Kind of silly too because 1920x1080 on a 17" screen seems like a waste.
Actully i bought a Asus laptop for 200 pound 3 months ago and it is fully upgradable becouse it is intel, so i can change the graphics and cpu and the mem.

There are some laptops you can upgrade. But like most people said that is not common.
The reason why is because laptops are not standardized like desktops are. Really I think it is a big scam by manufactures such as HP, DELL, etc. They want to not standardize it, because then they will loose a lot of that market. It is really the only pc market they still control.

Being Intel doesn't really help you. Even if you have a separate daughterboard for your graphics chips (found an the later Dell 9000s and XPSs for instance... and I'm sure others), you are still limited to what ever range of boards originally came with that laptop, as they are not true "stand alone" grachpics cards, requiring much of their memory to be bussed between GPU and System RAM. Many laptop manufactures change the form factor of daughterboards on each range, so it's not as if you can just buy a part from the latest range and slap it into your old machine.
Even if you are savvy enough with a soldering iron to change GPUs (be they motherboard "integrated" or separate daughterboard) the chances of being able to get rid of the extra heat produced by a more powerful chip are limited at best on a laptop... let alone finding a driver to support your now frankenstein set up. Powering is also an issue.
Yes, you can slap a better chip in (though this also required reaching for solder in some cases), assuming you have the right speed and socket, and I'm not saying GPU changes are impossible. It's just the chances of getting anything stable enough to use is just not worth the cost, time, skill and luck required.

Which has been an outdated socket for at least 3 years now. Top cpu for that socket is somewhere around 3GHz singlecore with a measly 800MHz fsb. You'd be better off upgrading a toaster. And being able to change the cpu, ram, or video card is not the same as being able to actually upgrade the entire laptop, which is what the OP was wanting to do.

Bro, first and foremost.... laptops are NOT gaming rigs !!!
Companies make gaming laptops, but they are rathy pricey nearing the $2k mark for a "decent" one. People who GAME on a laptop aren't really gaming, they are posing.
You don't have 5.1 suround, large screen or even a modern GPU. Matter-of-fact, it cheaper to have a $700 laptop and a $700 gaming rig, than it is to buy a $1500 gaming laptop.
Secondly, the predicament you find yorself in, is because you don't understand that laptops are NOT PC's.. you don't reconfigure them, you throw them out or give them away. It's not cost effective to do so.
Any $400 laptop from dell should be able to play World of Warcraft, since it is a remedial game and requires very little in terms of GPU or CPU.
