I have followed the MMORPG forum for AoC closely since august and seen a shift in the basher mentality.
In august there was haters of the game who were dissapointed and spent a lot of time discussing bugs, lies etc.
In january we had a couple of bashers that focused on the financial elements and discussed how Funcom was going bankrupt
Now we have a couple of bashers with a different apporach. They do all the bashing they can while trying not to brake the rules.
My theory is that these guys are trying to create negative attention about Funcom because "all pr is good pr" I am guessing that they have a hidden agenda. They know a lot about the game, and about why people left, and they are clever enough to push on peoples buttons. (at least they have hit mine several times. The accounts are made some months ago, but only now activated)
I think this is a clever viral marketing ploy to get fans like myself to defend the game and present every possible positive argument, while they try to pick it apart.
Also, have a look at the popularity meter on MMORPG front page. AoC is very high on this. It had actually fallen off earlier this meter. (i mean clicks, not the hype meter),
Finally, notice how Funcom staff and officials are not present anymore in any discussions. Even Avery is out of it. They dont want to spoil the effects of the marketing ploy

In the end its enjoyable play experience. Is it the game for you? I dunno, but you will be damn amazed the first time you see the animations.
No need for anyone to defend the game or bash it at this point. You can get a trial.
Are you seriously implying that a Funcom shill (or whatever you want to call it) is posting negative stuff about the game because "all pr is good pr"? Hahahaha.. this has to be the best conspiracy theory ever!
Marketing ploy? *Sigh*.. maybe you are trying to make this more complex than it is? Subscription numbers have dropped from 800k to 100k. Surely there are many "haters" in that bunch. Why is it so weird that these "haters" come here and bash the game? That's what gaming forums are all about!
Bashing games is a good thing. Potential customers read these negative posts and possibly spend their money on a better product. It's the MMO community that wins!
But anyways.. thanks for the laugh
Well dont know if its on purpose or not, but all this activity is actually helping Funcom. That made me smile.

This is what I was talking about in that other thread that was unfortunately locked because of all the trolling.
I don't understand why people feel they need to defend Age of Conan like it's their baby?
Lets take OP for example. His name is Erik and he's from Oslo, Norway.Oh, a Norwegian? What a surprise.. anyways.. I have a question for OP. You don't work for Funcom, right? And you didn't design AoC, right? So why do you feel the need to start these ridiculous conspiracy threads? I mean "a marketing ploy"? .. come on..
I think you are a little bit paranoid. There are not evil trolls or viral marketers out there to get you. They are just regular people like you and me, who for some reason just didn't like the game. Simple as that.
Iam just started AoC few days ago iam lvl.32 and iam happy atm with the game. They fixed a lot since release and yeah its totally fun more then Warhammer or world of gaycraft.
Let's forward this to the mods of this site and see if they agree with you that MMORPG.com is a game bashing site.
Cheers
Btw:I think the ppl which flame and try to bash AoC are that ppl with bad PC´s and now try to ruin a nice game that they are not handle to play.

These Funcom PR posters are very easy to spot. They are the kind of posters that post on every single thread and usually avoid talking about the topic and instead try to discredit other posters. We've had them here ever since AoC launched.
I remember this rabid fan from Austin Texas who posted hundreds of posts claiming AoC is the best game ever and people who don't like it are trolls. Then the guy suddenly stopped posting. He was banned. Next day ANOTHER poster, this time from Paris, France suddenly appears from nowhere are with the same broken english continues where the first guy left off.
You know what? Considering they are using such an agressive approach to marketing it wouldn't even surprise me. Though I think most of the criticism comes from genuine 'dislikers' ('haters' sounds so stuck-up), which I am myself. The fact that they chose to have their gameworld fractured in multiple instances of the same public zones is more than enough amunition for me to keep on 'disliking'.
