World of Warcraft: Rogue Mutilate Guide

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

MMORPG.com World of Warcraft Correspondent Billy Gallon writes this guide to playing a level 80 rogue with the Mutilate build in both PvE and PvP.

This guide is meant to teach the basics of playing a level 80 rogue in PvP and PvE for patch 3.1.0 with a mutilate build. Since it is generally accepted that, since the buffs to the assassination tree and mutilate since Burning Crusade, mutilate is one of the better specs for both PvE and PvP, this guide will cover that.

PvE:

For PvE'ing, you will generally want to use the build:

Build 1, Which is 51/13/7

A second variant of this is:

Build 2

Read the Rogue Mutilate Guide

The links bring up a blank amoury page, I am sure there was a good article in there somewhere but the whole thing calapses with out the builds, and also some dps explaations as to why mutilate is better or are we supposed to take your word for it without some numbers. Oh and to add Warhammer online is a way supperior pvp game.

What does the article on rogue builds have to do with Wrahamemr being a better pvp game???

PvP sucks! See, I can do the irrational thing too. Who cares about Warhammer? This is a WoW thread. I like playing Rogues. They're brutal!

What Happened With SWG Went Down YEARS AGO! Please Try To Stop Whining About It In Every Thread I Read. Mourn It, And Finally MOVE ON With Your Lives! Thanks A Heap.

I'm sorry, I realize that there is a lag between time of writing and time of publishing, but either that lag is unacceptably long, or the author is nowhere near as clear on rogue mechanics as he needs to be to write such a guide. Either way, this, like the earlier articles such as the guides to leveling a druid (limited to levels 1-10) are really harming the reputation of this site as a source for serious information about WoW at least.

Some examples of errors and unclear statements from the article:

"...the undead mobs inside of Naxxramas"; considering that Ulduar is out (and being raided furiously), why are you implying people should spec for Naxx?

"Hunger of Blood stacked three times", repeated several times. Hunger for Blood does not have stacks since patch 3.1; this information has been reported since at least the begining of April. If the lag time for an article is greater then a month, that's shocking.

"This makes up for the lost DPS due to using faster daggers. " This isn't so much wrong as just misleading: DPS being independant of speed, you presumably meant less damage per mutilate. Considering the way you belabor other points, this is oddly opaque.

"For glyphs, there is a bit of an opening for a personal preference with major glyphs. The recommended major glyphs are Rupture and Slice and Dice, leaving room for one more major glyph of your choice. " Where does this recommendation come from? The general consensus at the moment would be for Hunger for Blood and Mutliate glyphs as neccassary (HfB glyph is a flat 3% damage increase to DPS, while the mut glyph is roughly an 8% increase in mut damage) with one optional.

The explanation of how hit works for rogues is strangly both too detailed, and unclear on what exactly is going on in rogue combat.

I'll leave dissection of the rest of the post to someone with more experience with PvP on a rogue, but some of the statements (such as there being no need to use PvP rather then PvE gear) are mighty suspicious to me.

Does this come in an XXL. I'm a big guy and need the extra room to move.

Thanks for your response in advance.
