How much is the game to subscribe to? Acclaim has strange service options...

I don't know if anyone else is familiar with Acclaim, but I don't quite get how their "subscription" or pay model works.  They seem to have a "Membership" and these coins.  I don't have any idea what the coins are for, and the membership does seem to say what you get with it, or if that is what you need to play Spellborn.

Is there some sort of separate plan for Spellborn on its own, and if so how much is it?  Are the coins some kind of item mall for the games Acclaim hosts?  If so, does this mean there is pay-premium content on Spellborn or some kind of item shop?

I'm sure some of these questions have been asked before, but since the NA-allowed version just launched, I wanted to be clean on how their pay model worked before I got too involved.  It just didn't seem very straight-forward...

I'm playing on the EU server so I might be wrong, but I think that acclaim charges 15$ a month. Supposedly you can also get some general acclaim account which costs a one time fee and then the monthly charge for the game is reduced, but that all seems to be a bit confusing.

The coins are just an alternative to the credit card option. You can pay your monthly fee with it if you want. It's not used for anything else in this game, theres no item shop or anything similar.

This is correct. It was just added. You can now buy coins or use the monthly fee.

Well how much does it cost in "coins" then?  Their membership thing was a minimum of $10 (a month?).  I didn't even see it mentioned anywhere that there was a flat $15/month fee...

I think the main reason why it was officially in "beta" is that they didn't have the normal subscription options up yet.  The Acclaim coins thing was just a stopgap, using what Acclaim already had in place.  The alternative to letting people pay with Acclaim coins was not allowing people to pay at all, and hence not allowing people to play beyond level 7.

Now that they've got the subscription option up, people who want to avoid the Acclaim coins can pay by normal subscription means and not have to deal with the Acclaim coins.  They might as well leave the Acclaim coins option in place, particularly for the sake of people who bought the coins before the credit card subscription option was available.  They'd probably confuse fewer people if pay by credit card were the default option, though.

TBH, I never got why people (I presume grown adults) found the coin system 'confusing' or 'difficult'... I'm no rocket scientist but it was extremely straight foward to me... join, buy coins, buy sub, play... It's like people WANT to be confused sometimes or something, I dunno. Anything new seems to short circuit people's brains.

But yes, like everyone is saying to you guys who struggled with the above process, you can now set up a monthly CC option.

Me myself tho? Im gonna stick with coins... Why? Well, because with the promotions etc that Acclaim do they work out cheaper. Plus I can even do some surveys at work (sending the junk mail to a dummy email account natch) when I have dead time to get them for free.

Still, I guess if some guys insist on paying full price, or even paying at all, thats their call. I'm sure Acclaim loves them all :)

hehe I know, I found it very easy to do as well. I don't know why people struggled either. Still, a CC is good. It removes one more reason for people to look around for for people to moan
