Both according to the official releases and to the replies by the developers on the official forums, it seems additions to the game world are far in the future - and a good thing too.
The game is ok as it is but needs a lot of work for it to be good. Some has to do with the itemization and crafting (gemcrafting is one that seems to be worked on for the next patch) but mostly it has to do with running out of content.
Tier 3 raids haven't been added to the game (although quests for them already exist), many areas remain bare (resource areas, outdoor zones etc) and there is plenty to do BEFORE adding new hubs.
The question is will FC be able (and is willing...) to address these fast enough. If not, it is unlikely they will have enough of a player base, regardless of the results of the current trial. If they do (and over the last few months the signs are there for improvement in FC policies) then maybe this game has a future.
I have to add that even at the moment AoC is far superior to WoW for me, with a vastly better player base (average age with my guild members is over 30 anyway, and not 13) - but Bioware will bring KoTOR out at some point, and unless AoC is vastly improved by then I'll put my money on anything Bioware puts out.
i have been playing MMO's for over 10 yrs now....yes i play AoC right now, plus VG and beta testing a game. my first was eq1 nothing will bet the experience i had then, but i have seen games fall and rise. i have played eq2 since launch quit 6 months ago, i have played WOW 5 times TRYING to see if i can get into it like everyone else(sorry i cant graphics are one thing but everything else is another).
you name it i have played it from P2P to F2P( asian games to me just down right fucking suck). i like my PvE but i also like PvP when i want to piss ppl off. personally if i has FC with AoC i would have done things differently, but then again this is coming from a old school D&D player, i have robert e howard books and i have read TSR books( for those who dont know TSR that is who Made D&D) real RPG.
i guess im only trying to say is...i wish there was some REAL MMORPG games out there and i hope that these NEWER games can make the MMO's out now better or make ones that real mmorpgs.
sorry for the rant im drunk

Like has said many times before. They are TWO entirely DIFFERENT teams. The Secret World has basically been in Development since 1999 (concepting, story, etc, and first test versions being developed since early 2000-2003 (codename Cabal Online)) and thus long before Age of Conan even started their development. They are still hiring new people for positions within The Secret World team. As long as there are enough AoC subscribers for Funcom... then we are going to see an AoC expansion. Simple bussiness logic 1 0 1. Cheers
Yes, because no MMO has ever consolidated teams or put projects on hold during financial crunches, right?

Yeah, we got the same bullshit in AO. Then suddenly there were NO gms, NO customer support answering tickets, and then we had Craig finally admitting they "temporarily" moved people to AoC to handle its problems. We watched Craig and the great Famine spending all their time coddling the remaining AoC fanbois even before Means became the new AO director. Felt really good to be getting no response on the AO forums because Famine and Craig were too busy fighting to keep AoC above the shit it was already mired in. So anyone not laughing when Funcom says "we have different teams on different things" needs to pull their head out of FCs' ass.
Check their financial reports. They've got two entirely different teams working on both games. I very much doubt they are going to lie to their investors about a thing that can very easily be checked for truth..

Lol. Ok, how is it "easily checked"? Investors are inside Funcom HQ 24/7 and look at what each employee is doing at all times? Yeah, right..
Seems like some people here really need to grow up. Don't be gullible and believe everything a company looking for a profit is saying to you.
Has there been any more news on the expansion planned for AoC later this year? As far as I am aware this is the information out there: "The concept art shows three ninja-like warriors wearing green masks with a strongly oriental look. In the background are green banners decorated with dragons, and pagoda-like buildings. Funcom refused to comment further on the image - but the prominent oriental stylings suggest that the expansion will take players to the land of Khitai, Conan author Robert E. Howard's version of China in the Hyborian Age. " The image can be found on the web.
After patch 1.05 that addresses itemisation and revamps the entire RPG system AoC will be ready for the expansion(save a few more minor patches), anyone know what we can look forward to apart what is mentioned above?
The biggest problem with this is that the expansion was announced very early on when the game was most certainly in shambles and I don't think it's a stretch to assume that the move was made by Gautes direction since the only thing they had to fall back on was convincing stockholders they would focus on what made them any money at all which was an out of the box launch.
We (the public) were foolish enough to buy the game and in a lot of cases defend it out of the box and in a perfect world for funcom they could have kept shovelling expansions on this pile of crap and selling 700k while shipping 1 mil and making a huge profit basically we were looking at either a company in pure panic mode or the foolish leadership of Gaute and I for one would hope this idea is strictly on the back buner until they truly give the player base that stuck with them a truly robust mmo experience deserving of the enthusiasm that the public showed in making this the record breaking (as far as sales) seller that it was.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Financial reports from penny stock companies are notorious for manipulation, mis-information and fraud.
FunCom could send in two janitors to vacuum the floor of the IT department and label it 'Performing Server Related Maintaiinance". Techincaly and semantically the statement would be 'correct', but it certainly wouldn't be the 'truth'.
In the same vein they could put 2 people part time on a project and label them a 'seperate team'.
Please show me a link to any audit verifying any of FunComs statements over the last several years.

You mean like when they "moved" $6 million from one quarter to another to try to look like they made profit? Sorry, you gotta do better than that, Funcoms' already blew that excuse for ya.
So no one has any furhter information onthe what is inthe expansion? As asked in my OP.
At this point I did it was bs put out by old administration and is going to be shelved until they can fix the core game this game is basically still lame and broken they admit they need to do another patch that may not be coming anytime soon before they think the game is good enough to get old players back why would they honestly be working on an expansion in that case?I mean think about it the game is going to have to be vastly different than it is now as far as code so what would they really be working on?
Conceptually they could be working on the story but not anything code related since the games coding is not even up to par by their own standards.

Critical thinking is a good thing.
......great....so even if they provided paperwork/documentation of losses/profits or active subs...and despite all the requests for Funcom to do just that.......most of you poor embittered souls would already argue that the figures were doctored.... Except the "losses" part...I forgot...you'd gladly admit that those are correct....or no....you'd probably bitch and whine that they are "low-balling" those figures. lol...cracks me up. Life must be a real blast in your worlds.

We're doing great and making great progress said the car industry right before going bankrupt.
Seems your world is an even bigger blast than ours, don't forget to take your head out of the sand to breathe while FC bleed members.
In the end it comes down to patches and fixes. It was obvious Knight Online had been killed by K2 in their argument with mGame when the only patches that were released fixed the colour of the grass. If FC have released no patches in quite a while and issues are not been fixed then the game can be concidered dead.
I am downloading the trial to give it a go but I am not holding by breath. Look at every single over hyped up game in the past two years, they have all failed, every single one of them.
I think they will fix the game then do the Vet returning Campaign it will be almost September by then and then they will monitor how much damage Aion will do to their player base before releasing anything about an Expansion pack.

From their last quarterly report
1. Total number of funcom employees was reduced from 319 to 302
2. The team at the Secret World has been increased.
Now, they could have fired a bunch of people, and hired a smaller number of new people for TSW.. but more than likely they fired a few people and moved others to TSW. With the two statements given by funcom above, it's hard to imagine that a significant amount of people didn't switch teams from AOC to TSW

As far as FC bleeding members. I have the power...it's true...to cancel my subscription. I never tried AoC based on what anyone said..including funcom. It's the same company, but entirely different people who work on those games.
Anarchy Online development and Age of Conan development were in control by Gaute Godager as Game Director.
The Secret World is in control by the same person that brought us The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, Ragnar Tørnquist.
Gaute Godager was responsible for two horrible MMO launches.
Ragnar Tørnquist on the other hand has brought Funcom a lot of success and cash with the games The Longest Journey and Dreamfall.
Funcom hired a lot of new people from the industy for The Secret World team. Like people that worked on EverQuest 2, etc.
Cheers
And you know this because you have some insider information about Funcom?
Just because they say it doesnt make it so.
If not enough people are subscribing to the game then they will take out resources from it. Corp 101
