MMORPG.com Maple Story Correspondent Stone Ng writes this overview of the nexon free-to-play MMO, giving his opinions on various aspects of the game.
I have been playing MapleStory for more than a year now, I have played other MMOs as well, but I have stuck with MapleStory throughout most of it. Despite its shortcomings, it is a very solid MMO.
Balance
There is pretty bad balance in the beginning, but it all evens out in the end. It mainly depends on your funding. The classes all have their ups and downs, but in the end, every class will be needed for something.

"MapleStory has considerably less grind than other Korean MMOs. Party Quests allow for constant exp and money when one gets bored of grinding."
I want to know what this person is smoking, cause last time I played, I was stuck at lvl 8 for a week, with the only monsters I could kill giving me less than a tenth of 1%. Could say that its my fault that I wanted to be something besides a mage, but they shouldn't have that one's requirements at 8, and the others at 10.
No hes right. Sure at the low levels it may seem pretty tough, but I'm sure he was comparing the higher levels with other high levels in the game.
Also, I think you were being a bit biased on your review.
I disagree. Mages are the easiest to level up in the first job. You may be doing the wrong build or something. Also, if you are level 8 and training on level 20 monsters, of couse it will take forever.
I don't feel that it is biased though. Please explain what you mean.

You misread what I typed, I said "Could say that its my fault that I wanted to be something besides a mage,". I was trying to make a warrior if you have to know.
And I never said i was killing lvl 20 monsters. If I was though, i should of been getting more than just .1% a kill.
When was the last time you played? There are enough quests on Maple Island to get you straight to level 10. Also, as a level 10, you should be doing the starter quests. Those monster give you .4% per kill. Also, you will be killing them in one hit which is considerably less than most korean MMOs where it takes multiple hits to fell even the beginner monsters.

Grinding is a pain, just like all MMOs, you have to do it. Maplestory is no real exception. The lower levels are easy to level, I'll say that for sure. In fact you can get to around level 30 in less than a week if you really focus on it. It's once you get to around the mid 50s, the game gets so frustrating to level. You're limited on quests, there really is no monster that you can beat that gives good exp. It's possably the worst level to be in. It's also where I quit on it. The game is horrid on high level grinding. (not to mention all the little clothes and junk people buy from the cash shop is a huge waste of money)
A long while back, so if its changed since then, sorry
They've made it uch easier in the beginning with extra quests. It is still grindy though.
