Why I play AoC

VultureSkullVultureSkull Member UncommonPosts: 1,774

I play Aoc for the following reasons:

1) The realism of the game, there are no over the top armor pieces here, everything looks realistic.

2) The graphics in this game are to die for, and they run sooo smooth.

3) The animation in this game is top notch, i don't get at all tired watching my melee chars fighting, again with realistic sword play.

4) Combat melee system, you dictate each swing of your sword, you can maximise damage by paying attention to the shields of the mob you fight, and hit in the weakest spots. This make every fight different, after this auto attack feels soo dull.

5) Class types, although some class have been done before in other titles, there are some unique ones here, Barb, Hox and Conq are a few really cool melee fighters and the Necro here is pretty well done too(as you can summon up to 8 minions, We are legion!!)

These are the things that make the game stand out for me, questing etc is the same with other titles.

Why do you play AoC?

    1) Low fantasy setting. No elves, dwarves, goblins, etc...

    2) Interesting IP (REH Hyboria)

    3) Interesting Classes and work well together in PVP/PVE

    4) Interesting AI

    5) Ability to hit up to 6 people/npcs with 2H melee weapons

    6) Awesome melee abilities, directional combat, finish moves

    7) Motion capture for men and horse animations

    8) Beautiful designed zones

    9) Impressive Graphics

    10) The best game soundtrack ever

    Combat is a blast.

    Game is gorgious.

    1. I agree. Low fantasy is really neat, although some of the new armor and weapon items are falling dangerously close to silly  aesthetics.

    2. The graphics are good, but the artstyle leaves you wanting more. Tortage and the tropical theme they had there was fantastic, but much of the rest of the world is dull, dry and simply not very interesting.

    3. Animations look great.  But even since the launch of the game combat animations have been causing problems for the actual gameplay, so they were flawed from the get go.

    4. It's great for PvE. Awful for PvP in every way. They've had to modify the system several times over the past year and they still haven't got it right. The combat actually feels MORE mechanic in PvP than other MMO's.

    5. Classes are okay. Necro is fun but looks super-silly with 8 pets running around in supersonic speeds as they attack enemies. Add some benny hill music to it and you'll see what I mean. Overall though, the balance has been completely lacking between classes since day 1, and they still have a lot of work to do. The only class that really stands out to me is the HoX, which unfortunately suffers from many graphical issues still.

Overall AoC is still mighty flawed as  a PvE game, but still fun.  As a PvP game it is not worth your time.

    Heya! go here - http://aoc.yg.com/

Under the player profiles, you can filter what kind of player you are looking to see. Whether you want to see just your server, class, race, w/e. filter by names, or even gender. Then, to see most of the end game PvP and raid gear, filter the PVP rank column. Then look at like the first 5-6 people. You get an actual visual of the player and their gear. It's awesome.

    OT:

It's fun, fast, and furious. There's tons of shit to do, and with a good guild, this game has loads of content for the average to semi-hardcore player (20-25 hours a week, IMO). for me, having a decent system, and being able to play the game on high settings makes every new experience that much more exhilarating. I'm constantly (like daily) in awe of the landscape and creativity of monsters, spells, areas and dungeons.

I just did my first Amphitheatre run the other night. So far, it's a "can't miss" dungeon. It's not to long, but the coordination, and events in it are second to none, IMO.

Found these for the guardian. That's the class I want to play but I hear its not good for pvp. Are they an import role ingame otherwise?

Main tanks in raids and they deal sufficient damage in pvp fron what i've experienced.

i play AoC for several reasons, but mostly because of the Mature theme and audience, pretty much every other mmo out there has either a childish theme or a childich player base which i do not enjoy anymore, the second reason is that i wanna play my mmos for years, not months, so i prefer mmos with potential and room for growth and future additions. The third reason is artistic styles and sounds, i hate square old gen gfx, but unfortunatly, almost every fantasy mmo dev out there  thinks that mmo players dont care or dont know anything about gfx, which i know is not true. AoC has taken another road, with superb gfx and oscare grade music. and if i didnt play the Witcher, i would easilly say that AoC is even better looking than any single player RPG i know of to date.

I see they have a knock back whic could be nice in pvp. I am not going to roll on  pvp server cuz its just crazy on there. I am one for a pve server and the occastional pvp.

Although i left AoC cussing in anger soon after release, i can still relate to the OP's points.

#1 is both strength and weakness of the game i think. Tired of WoW or eastern grinders with their flashing 10ft axes and such, the more realistic art and design of AoC's weaponry is a welcome change. On the other hand, i saw people complaining alot about the quite boring look of weapons and equipment in general and a bit more flashy stuff could at least do the caster classes well.

PvE - you'll be maini tank on everything. W/ a good raid leader, and efficant healing, you will not die.

PvP - dmg is negatable, but only if they have a healer. You won't be slicing heads off like a barb, but you also don't go down quickly, if at all. Even Casters will tab right past you, b/c it's not worth their effort. 4-5 people gang up on you, and then you'll go down quick though.

Well looks like thats the class for me.  I play a guard in every other MMO that I have played and I like crushing skulls with a shield. My final verdict will come at the end of the 7 day trial.

    "Why I play AoC " in 5 days.....maybe lol

    Why I play AoC?

Simply because I think it's the best mmorpg out atm.

I enjoy the more realistic, less fantatsy style visuals and gameplay. I like the questing, but even more, the pvp. I've had my fits of torrets because of gankers and griefers, but also some memorable moments of good 'ol revenge:)

There are now more and more sets to chose from, best ones really hard to get, as it should be. Adding some more pics of full plate armor lvl 80 from that database.

I would have to say I share the same sentiments here coupled with the points in the first two posts.

I find it worth my money each month and nothing has changed that opinion since release. First got my hands on the game like 18 months ago and have enjoyed every aspect through its evolution. It is growing content wise at a fast pace and evidence is right there that there is a lot of care and attention put into the game in updates.

I love the lore and the tie-ins from FC's perspective. Joel Bylos should get a raise Craig!

It's funny, all of those except for 4 were the main things I liked about the game too. Personally, I hated the combat system, and while I thought it was a good idea, I thought it was a terrible implementation. Beyond that, I didn't find the things I liked, namely the stuff listed above, to overcome the things I didn't like, and thus stopped playing.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

Combat system was much better before they changed it. Ask anyone in beta. Just another example of how Funcom didn't listen to customers because they wanted the game to be more 'kiddie friendly'.

{Mod Edit}  Beta is over so good luck in finding a customer in beta.

I was talking about the situation that happened way back in the day when we had that one launch delay. Funcom said it was because they had to revamp the combat system and that's what they did. Too bad they actually made it worse and anyone who was in beta at the time can confirm this.

They basically made combo system easier because they thought majority of gamers are dumb and need help in doing these combos. The result is this no-skill-needed button smashing we have today.
