This is the best MMORPG I have ever played, currently playing chinese version and waiting for EU release, and I love it, cannot wait for it to launch in EU.

Thanking them for what? For totally ignoring you until some date in the future?

    I guess, whatever.

Sigh, best game threads are amusing...lets see what happens.

I didn't realize that catering to us by localizing their game was "ignoring" us.  It sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder, let me brush that off for ya.

I enjoy'd the game as well, but I definitely saw plenty of areas for improvement.

The english based consumer seems to enjoy their whine even more than the Italians.  There were small grammatical and text placement issues with the EN overlay.  Maybe 4-5 years ago this would have passed as a good game strictly on gameplay...

But today's standards, set by polished titles like LoTRO, have our consumers expecting a complete game and not a Work-in-Progress at release.  A simple bablefish translation (like lineage2 when it was first released) will not cut it anymore.  I can easily see the game taking a year to translate the massive amounts of text, character names, and hidden wordplays in the lore that would make the game the same complete package that was presented and successful to Korea.

    LineageII | LoTRO | RFO | 9Dragons | Aion | Perfect World | Ether Saga | Dungeon Runners | GuildWars 1 and 2 | Hellgate London | tCoS | Warhammer | AoC | Tabula Rasa | SWTOR

When you are one the last in their release list except may be EU which is absolute trash in their eyes then yeah, they are "ignoring" you.

We will see, it will depend greatly on the state of the game when released after localization.  If the game is no different from either Chinese or Korean releases then yes we were ignored.

    Spoilt much?

Come on... we Europeans get EVERYTHING last...

We don't get movies until months after... We get all the episodes of shows way after America. We usually get games last...

It's an Asian game... Deal with it.

Final Fantasy games always come out in Japan first. It's just the way it is.

MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, City of Villains / Heroes, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, Matrix Online, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor

If you see Final Fantasy games come out like Japan > Korea > China > US then yeah, it's just the way it is. NCSoft has always underappreciated US and EU market which is kinda ironic since AION was designed to fit western playstyle. Why US and EU was not first priority after Korea is beyond me.

Just to be clear NA/EU are not the last to get Aion, your forgeting about Central and South America and they won't recieve their's till 2010.

I wouldn't say its MADE for the Westerners, it defenately allows for both styles of play to occur without either side feeling annoyed.  For example the ASWD and Click to move both function very well on this game, allowing either play style true freedom to be enjoyed.

I agree it sucks that the US and EU have to wait to play this game, I personally am irked myself.  If I had to guess why they release games the same way each time I'd guess contractual obligations.

Either that or they are just set i their distribution ways...

It sucks we have to wait and I really hope this localization is worth it.

I'm sorry but you're not special and neither is America. Games developed in a certain country get it first before anyone else, how incredibly shocking. It doesn't matter if it's Japan, Korea, France, United States the Netherlands, that's just how it is until someone is willing to postpone any release until all localizations are done, and that is unlikely to happen as time is money.

It's not made for Westerners. There were some early interviews where the interviewee indicated that it was a game made with the Eastern market in mind but incorporating western design sensibilities.

As a matter of fact, one such interview got me worried (at the time) that it would be released over here.

LoTRO was not even close to a polished game at launch. No game has been...not even the all mighty WoW. The ENU.pak for chinese translation in beta was not a complete translation and finished product. Also the game was in OPEN BETA, OPEN BETA is not a free trial of the finished/retail version of the game..never is. It is meant for stress testing servers so launch hopefully doesnt go haywire and they know what to expect. Open Beta is never the same version of the game that is released on launch.

LOTRO was extremely polished at launch. I was on closed and open betas and there for launch day. It went off without any hitches.

I don't really recall any issues so you will have to be more specific.

I agree to a point the game is very very good , would'nt say its the best I've ever played but I'm really really enjoying playing the Chinese Version. Also I love the payment system for this ! I just payed only 2.90 GBP for 40 hours of game time so I'm only paying for the actual time I'm playing ..... so why we cant have this type of payment method here in EU or even the US is beyond me .. anyone got any ideas why ?

Because Koreans games never really caught Western imagination, so I guess NCSoft thought Aion wasn't any different.

Also don't forget they got burned by the disaster called Tabula Rasa, so I guess they just wanted to focus on the markets they know better first.

But seriously...................6 months to localize the game????

it's actually a common misconception that the retail will differ much from the open beta version, experience tells us that it is almost always nearly the exact same version, massive changes from one day to another simply do not occur in mmorpgs.

in the case of the chinese open beta there wasn't even a client side patch when they switched from open beta to retail, the first patch came some days later (21st i think).

I'm pretty sure I read recently they confirmed September release...?

  • nivelplnivelpl Member Posts: 2

Hey, this pseudo ENU patch is not official. Its fans made.

Why taking so long to translate? Because they rewriting all text to fit to our reality - its called westernization.

In december Aion will launch in Russia. So in EU/NA it could be before Russian launch.
