Worst MMO game that was actually a game ----> Lineage II

Worst POS ever had the misfortune to stumble upon ------> Dark and Light

All of this F2P asian trash, and browser games. It's a plague.

For me it's a tie between Lineage 2 and Sword of the New World.

Before WOW, MMO's had worlds, and consequences, and therefore felt somewhat alive and very immersive.  Since WOW, MMO design has gone downhill, with simplistic and easy being the rule of the day.  An analogy might be the classic horror films, which were very cool, being replaced by crap like Buffy or The Frighteners, stuff that is more popular but far less substantive.

Humm blaming WoW for what OTHER developers do.... just think on that for a moment.  But if you enjoy grindly, poorly designed, buggy and unpolished games go play pre WoW mmo's... simples.

On topic... out of the MMO's that stood a change of being good and not just a generic Asian grindfest I have to stack my chips on WAR.. promised so much, great hype while being developed but just turned out to be a poor WoW wannabe with keep shockly poor keep seige (just my opinion dont WAAGGGGG me)

I have to agree with what someone said before; I rank Guild Wars as  my worst.

Not because it's a terrible game or anything, but it's not an MMO in my book. Too segregated, and simplistic. People always talk about how crazy awesome the pvp is, but I never really caught on to that. It just seemed to me like a watered down diablo clone with a crappy story and boring gameplay.

Also, as a reply to the guy who said WOW was the worst, I'll not argue there, but the Frighteners was a great movie. Black comedies are not supposed to be straight horror flicks.

The sleeper awakes...and rides his dirtbike to the mall.

omg yea Buffy and frighteners were both awesome movies, damn slanderer

I have to say Ragnarok Online. Not sure if it has a quest system or not, but all I ever seemed to do was just kill things. If you wanted to just go and kill things and lvl up it's a great game. I personally can only do so much of the same clicking and attacks over and over again without any other type of content. I also didn't mind the graphics at all, was simple but still artisitic. Just wish my ex gf wasn't so addicted to it, I wouldn't have had to try and play so much of it with her.

I also am guessing that game experience varies a lot with what server and version of the game you play. Simple game without enough content to keep me entertained for very long.

Uh, no it wasn't. In fact, it's still active. I think you're mistaken with 'Imperator Online'.

How did you find that game and whats "animu"?

My worst is a web browser MMO that I have forgotten the name of.

The graphics looked like something from over twelve years ago and after a few minutes of playing it I uninstalled it.

Oh yeah, and Runescape of course.

I cant' believe how anyone would be willing to play that game.

I mean, it looks like a game for the VIC 20 home computer from the early 80's with only eight colors on screen at one time.

So yeah, I vote Runescape for being the crappiest MMO ever made in the history of man.

Runescape would have been a good MMO 25 years ago but sadly the internet hadn't been invented then and I don't count the experiments between universities in the 70's and 80's as the internet.

    SWG (POST NGE)

Not just becuase the new game system changed the game completely but also because it was SOOOOooooo badly implemented. Even now it still plays like crap, even doomed MMO Tabula Rassa had a better combat system.

Although the space game is still fun so guess it's not the worst ever.......

I guess it would have to be any of the F2P click to move grindfests out there.

  • IcoGamesIcoGames Member Posts: 2,360

    SWG hands down for me.

Conceptually the game was great, but execution was borked beyond anything I've seen to date.  I can understand some indy producer failing, but c'mon SOE and LA had the resources, people, and IP.  Yet the game failed in every conceivable way.

The game had one redeeming factor:  the community.  Best of any game I've played to-date.

What wrong with grinding?Ultima online and DaOc was mostly grinding.Ultima Online was less worse because it's was a skill based game . But well you had macro'ing and shit like that. But still. The community was awesome in both game. It's was the player that made these 2 game awesome.

The new phenomenom it's quest grinding. You go through 20 NPC per zone .. Get a bunch of quest and follow the little arrow  to get 10  Head of some bandit. After it's over you run over the hill right here and kill 10  Tree .After that you run over there to kill 10 wolve and get 20 wolve skin .. It's grinding for me.I don't know many ppl who *read* all those quest log.No they just pack up their journal  and when they're done come back to turn them.

I think the  whole level crap getting old.PPl want to enter in a new world and feel to be a part of it.Not some other dude rushing through each zone after zone to *level*.

You never heard of story of some guy dying from starvation because he played UO non-stop at least. In Uo you could take your time ... thus addiction was less frequent. Each time you logged you had something to do or to find.No stupid 10 hours raid .. No stupid battleground .. no stupid quest. Just you and your toon and you make the game the way you wanted it to be.

I have a set of criteria / standards that if a game doesn't pass to most of these it is usually swiftly uninstalled.

Is there almost no lag every time even when no-one is about. Would be nice

Is there no need to reach for my CC every time I want to go somewhere / install an addon / gain bonus xp / items. Preferably not an item-shop one.

Does the website / supporting sites work properly and not give authentication errors or other weirdness. If I can't even download or I hear reports of subs being charged twice, I steer clear

Will I be surrounded by a bunch of people that talk English or when they do it isn't gibberish or at least resembles some kind of human-to-human communication. The odd person speaking Dutch or Swedish is fine, but obscenities every time a crowded area is reached or constant blabbering about Chuck Norris isn't.

    AM I ACTUALLY HAVING FUN.

Does the game treat me like I just crawled out of a cave or do I get to use something called a brain. I've got a key and a door in front of me, do I really need a 10-part tutorial and a large golden glowing arrow pointing to the keyhole? Not everyone who plays video-games is an imbecile who dropped out of school, this isn't the 90's. (:P)

Will I end up looking like everyone else in the game when I start playing or at the 'end-game'. (Same height is okay same everything else isn't)

Would this game appeal to an annoying hyperactive ADD ginger-haired freckled kid. (Alarm bells should ring here that the game has a high attraction to retards)

    Chronicles of Spellborn.

If humans were to genetically alter the way we deficate, sure it would be "innovative" but the end result is still a piece of shit.

Putting a fresh coat of new colored paint is not innovation. The bar has been set too low.

So, do you play any MMO's?

  • bryan1980bryan1980 Member Posts: 182

a lot of the free ones are bad... as expected.

The worst pay2play game is darkfall.   I've never seen so much exploiting, hacking and unattended macroing in a game.   No exaggeration, I know other games have exploits... but nothing on the scale of Darkfall where hacking/exploiting is everywhere, all the time.

i plaid a lot of crapy games but i would say the worst was runescape

  • LetsinodLetsinod Member UncommonPosts: 385

I won't even post about F2P crap but:

    1) WoW  - How can anyone actually play this game

    2) EVE  - BORING

  • ultimatum1ultimatum1 Member Posts: 36

Worst F2P MMO would probably be 2moons, that game was hyped to hell and was totally devoid of anything resembling entertainment .

Worst p2p MMORPG would have to be Myth of Soma, a horrible game which I never liked. Especally when you could have played Legend of Mir hosted by the same company (gamenetwork) at the time.
