Queries about 'freemium'

murdera2k6murdera2k6 Member UncommonPosts: 474

Firstly, is it worth it, i have a bit of lag and im finding leveling a little monotonous imlevel 5 atm but i was wondering how much better does it get?

Are there any instances?

And how good is PvP?

Does the Population increase in Freemium areas?

Thanks for your time!

Yeah I have a general laggy feeling to combat.  It isn't huge but it is noticable.  Things like pushing buttons having a small amount of lag.  Generally not a huge problem.  Or doing the chat icon.  If I right click on an npc quickly it doesn't work.  I gotta right click pause a sec then release to get into chat.  Also combat actions and damage all seem a bit laggy or out of sync.

I'm lvl 9 and in several areas past the starting area.  Unfortunately so far what I've seen is more of the same.  You got the same general type of areas, woods, fields, etc.  Mobs are swine, some cat like critters, and the dodo birds, and there are groups of human type mobs.  Generally you can solo the animals but the humans are tougher.

Quests don't seem much different.  Leveling is pretty slow.  I see people that are pretty high lvl but I'm not sure how they do it.  I'm lvl 9 and probably have 15-20 hours played.  I think getting in a group and grinding humanoid mob camps is probably the fastest xp.  Generally I find grinding mobs seems to get xp faster then running quests.  Although some quests give a lot of xp but most give very little.  Typically between 1-5 mobs worth of xp.

For me the game freezes every 1-2 hours which can be a bummer if I'm fighting although so far I've never come back dead just surrounded.

I'm not doing pvp but understand it is good.  Probably involves making a good skill deck and running, straffing and jumping a lot.  The population in the free area is too much in my opinion.  In the next area up the population is less and about right.

Other then the new areas being zoned into there are no group only instances I've seen so far.

I always level with a buddy and that deals with monotony. I find the quests enjoyable since they aren't overly grindy(kill 20 of XXXX) and the story is pretty good. If you take the time to read the quests or even just gloss over them the experience is that much better. However if you are trying to rush and powerlevel it will feel like you aren't making progress. There isn't really an endgame to rush towards so enjoying what you currently have is key.

Leveling is pretty much paced the same as far as I can tell but honestly it isn't that bad. In 20 hours of play my buddy and I did 27-32. 4 hours a level ain't bad. you can do 15-20 in quarterstone stupidly fast and easy.

There are instances- Exarchyron(Sp?) and Citadel of Aisle are the two that I've done. Not really my cup of tea and they usually eat your renown ranks.

The populations in later areas are low but you still see people and you will always be passing people by on the roads.

PvP is a tricky subject. At the moment Warriors have a skill called Revenge that is near insta-gib in PvP and poisons/burns are pretty damn OP as well so those can ruin a PvP battle. At lower levels the PvP is extremely fun and has a good pace to it. At later levels the PvP becomes extremely fast paced and IMO less enjoyable since you barely have time to get through your skill deck. You can still have some fun battles though and even the faster battles are more fun than say WAR or WoW PvP. Tthey are doing some balancing with the patch that is coming this or next week so the PvP should get even better.

The combat system is a major part of this game for PvE and PvP. It can drastically change the experience you have so building a good deck is key. My buddy and I spend hours working on ours and testing them. If you don't enjoy this type of thing then the game might not be for you.

With Arena and Demon chests also coming in the next patch it will offer a good break from the PvE questing that I think many people need.

Well, to be frank with you, if you are finding the first two levels of levelling in the extended tuturoial (Hawksmouth) to be 'monotonous' then this probably isnt the instant gratification game for you.
Do the quests get 'better' once you leave this training area though? Yeah, sure, but the levelling dosent get any faster.
Spellborn isnt for everyone though, and it dosent have to be for you. At least they gave you the chance to find out for free though eh? Funcom, Mythic, Aventurine wernt quite so honest or generous...
    Are there any instances?
There is a little use of instancing, yes, but very little. Less then EQ2 had at release, and certainly nowhere near GW.
    And how good is PvP?
PvP is excellent and a lot of fun.
The arena is being ptached soon, and PvP will just get better and better.
Does the Population increase in Freemium areas?
Yeah, there are a lot of people trialing the game and trying out different classes, but thats to be expected. All the games I have played at launch have seen exactly the same dynamic.
    Thanks for your time!
    Hope this helps :)

All I have to say is please tell me they aren't actually using the "word" freemium. That would just be a new low in the gaming world.

Yeah, I dont like it either, but seeing as it has zero impact on the game itself I can let it slide :)
