I guess if you have to launch a game on the day you promise to, you start finish up all the important stuff on that very day. Personally? I would already have everything ready the day before, so I could simply switch the button to launch everything..
I hope this isn't going to take much longer.
The problem is that most developers totally lack any project management skills. If they had experience they would know everything always goes to shit on launch day. That's why you have to get a working client up and running the day before. Then you can do some small fixes and if you break everything, you can always revert to that working client at launch time.
It's always the same story. First it's "we'll launch in a couple of hours". Then they go silent.
It's well known that with most games it takes at least till night time that the game opens due to this.
I've worked for several MMO's, and what you say is true. It never goes as planned on the day you plan to launch, always prepare ahead. That, or do not give launch date.
First of all, I am sorry this is taking a little longer than expected. We will NOT be pushing beta back to tomorrow or anything like that.
Here is the issue:
All of our animation files are not stored on a normal server. They are hosted by a global CDN with nodes all over the world. It takes about an hour for these nodes to populate with our animations because of the caching mechanism they use. Everything is ready, and we could let you in now, but depending on your location in the country, you may not see any animations! That would suck!
Why didn't we think of this before?
We did. The problem is that in our final testing we had a few small animation glitches, and we had to replace a bunch of our .swf files. We did that, and now we are simply just waiting, like you are
We have waited on this process many times before, and it takes about an hour. My best guess is in about 30 minutes we will be ready to rock!
Another note: This is a closed beta. You will see bugs. Classes will have balance issues. This is why we need you, and your help. Please provide as much feedback as you can.
Thanks for your pateience, and I will see you inside shortly. My name in the game is: GMTobias.

Under Construction
With all due respect, will it still be online on the 27th? I'm in europe and it's already evening.

if the estimated time was right, its supposed to start in about 1 hour approx
I doubt it. It's always the same story with amateur developers. They have zero project management skills.
"What?! Everything didn't go PERFECT?!! How is that even possible? Shit.. I guess we need to postpone launch.."
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

it's stupid to stay on pc waiting for it, obviously it will take longer than "expected"
Obviously I am already behind my computer doing other things, but I keep checking the page. And nothing has happened so far.
