I have decided to let my sub expire next month due to a major concern with Funcom, not the game.
I think this has been an ongoing problem for the company. So many people love the game, but like myself, have been experiencing one issue that has existed for months on end, and has been noted as a "known" issue...but with no tech support.
We have known that the main forums have been wrought with mods who take it upon themselves to delete any post even remotely mentioning leaving, but it had to be said (and yes, I got a reprimand).
But, it looks like players really do need to talk with their pocket books to show Funcom we mean business.
Basically, the DX10 implementation has been shoddy at best. But, for myself it is 100% unusable. Issues with no mouse controls and no widescreen resolutions below 1650 has been problematic. But, DX9 has worked, so it has not been a concern.
What is a concern is after every patch, it still has not been fixed, and I report it everytime, and I have posted to the forums including Testlive. I have offered to help in any way possible to get this fixed. It is even noted as "known" by the Devs,
But, no effort has been made to fix it, and I basically said "I see that maybe this company does not want my money" (which got a swift delete and a demerit on my account).
And that leaves me closing down, and taking my wallet with me. They must NOT want the cash instead of working with me on the problem.
I urge anyone else who also sees an issue to make sure it is handled, if not, then move on as well. The company has really let an excellent game be filled with hacks, bots, tech issues, and are more worried about the new patch to slow down leveling and make gear more "WoW" like in stats, than ongoing problems.
Anyways, just to let others know. This is such an awesome game, but since launch it has always had one issue. Funcom. And this seems to be an ongoing concern.
Good luck Funcom.

I've seen many dedicated fans quit the game lately. I really hope this sends a clear message to Funcom and forces them to change their business practices. They failed with AO. Now they have failed with AoC. Lets hope they do better with Secret World.
I think with Secret World coming soon, AOC players are just going to have to accept that AOC is going to become AO. If you like the game now, keep playing and paying. But don't expect anything major to happen with the game... don't keep paying with the hope that things will get better any time soon.
The Dx10 version was still a test version when it went live. Do keep that in mind. If your heartache is solely over that, dial back to Dx9 and enjoy the game you have been playing. Having worked with Dx10 for game modeling/ animation- it is a beast. This one thing alone might take almost as long as the "grey map" issue to "get right".
Now if your complaint is about other things, then thats far more understandable.

If TSW is a skill based game rather then Level based and it has good combat system, preferbly more FPS'ish I'll be playing that for sure. Loved the bow combat in Darkfall, but the magic combat and spellcasting made me want to go start killing people. the sound was just that bad
Still looking for a MMO with a decent fps'ish combat system.

I remember when they announced AoC and this exact post was echoed about AO. Many of the dedicated were quitting and they hoped they would do a better job with AoC. Now the new phase is people leaving AoC and hoping it gets better in TSW. I will just stick to not playing FunCom games anytime soon.
Nobody is saying working with DX10 is easy. I bet it's really freaking hard, but you know what? I don't care.
As a customer I don't care if something is hard to do. If a company promises something, I expect to get it. Sure I can give them some slack but DX10 was supposed to be in a year ago. A YEAR!
That is incompetency and false advertising, nothing more. Uh.. it's hard? I don't give a shit. If it's hard, do like Gaute and quit.
So your a dedicated player leaving because of issues with DX10 which is still in a Test phase? am I reading that correctly?
Well best of luck to you if you do leave although after staying with a game for any significant amount of time I can't see leaving over a feature thats still being tested regardless how many bugs you've reported because I've yet to see any major rework/fixes for the current dx10 test...
and before 1.05 goes live too, shame shame.. : )
best of luck
Let me rectify the "why" here, as it does not seem to be making sense to some.
No, it is not JUST because of DX10. It is how Funcom is handling the testing of DX10.
THERE IS NONE actually.
All posts in the Test forums about DX10 lay empty and non-discussed. When an issue for a "test" version (which has been tested almost 5 months now on TESTLIVE btw) of DX10 still exists after all this time, how is that progress?
As to patch 1.05, this brings up a whole new set of issues.
We still have a game with a multitude of bugs, hacks, bots, etc, but this push for 1.05 which will slow down the leveling curve that people have enjoyed, and make combat feel more like WoW (slow and methodical instead of the quick multi mob combat we HAVE experienced) is a totally 100% wrong direction.
Issues still exist. Issues are being ignored STILL. And Funcom continues to develop for a patch that is going to make the game totally different? Whose wise idea is that?
No, I think I am leaving at the right time, as will many others when patch 1.05 comes. Oh, and of course, DX10 will still be in testing.
That's sad.
Dx10 is the worst thing ever promised by Gaute, simply because it add nothing of importance to the game. I much rather see them work on improving the game and it's content then see them focus heavy on Dx10. The graphic is already some of the best out there and Dx10 looks good, but ti won't make the game more fun.
Also patch 1.05 will make things harder, it will slow down leveling speed, you might not be able to powerlevel people like we have seen them do today. And that is actually good, one of my problems with AoC is that I don't die in PvE unless I do stupid things, I can run and drag a full camp of people and kill them . With my barb I can take on 10 76-80 mobs without any problems, Patch 1.05 changes that. suddenly it becomes rather deadly in PvE to act as some kind of invincible hero that can take on the world. Some will hate it, some will like it. For my part 1.05 is good, it makes the game more challenging to play and that I look forward too.

Personally I played AoC for about 1 month and found the game very bland. About the only thing it has going for it is the graphics and the potential of RP for the RPers out there. Other then that AoC really didnt grab me at all.
WoW will continue to be the best MMO out there until something totally fresh and new comes along. Until then, may as well stick with a game which has content to keep you going for years. At least your getting your moneys worth. :-)
IMO MMOs in general are at a crossroad right now. Everyone is looking for something new, or different then anything they've played. Until that time comes I'll personally play WoW and take breakes here and there during the summer.
Bring on the new and fresh MMOs!!! Isnt there a company out there willing to gamble and create something that could possibly be a breakthrough in the world of MMOs.........
"I play Tera for the gameplay"
What is important to note here is I think the game is AWESOME. I love it so much.
Funcom has forced my hand though. I cannot continue to support a company that runs their game into the ground.
If they did the right things by their customers, life would be good, and I would continue playing.
Not the way Funcom runs this game, so I better talk with my wallet and let them know.
Cheers

But, to me, silence means a lot more than a vocal "we are looking into it"
Thus, this would not be an issue, if I had received the "looking into" or "can you explain the issue so we can work with you?"
Actions speak louder than words.
Funcom action? = ZERO

I don't understand why Funcom keeps treating customers like this. I would think they would do all they can to keep those loyal fans you stayed during the dark times when everyone else quit.
I mean not to answer at all?! That's very disrespectful. It's like they gave up already.
I'm not surprised OP quit.
I'm obvously the odd one out, not beacause I think Funcom is an especially fantastic customer loving company (not that I've experienced the abu-ghraib like treatment so many here has), but because I chose to play this game for the game itself, not the company behind it.

I guess that makes you very noble and better than us then.
MMO's are not like most of other products. You cannot just "play the game for the game itself". Company that is producing is actually PART of the game because MMO's need constant development.
Think of it like a marriage. You cannot just marry the beautiful bride. If you marry her, you need to "marry" her family too, who are all bunch of a$$holes.
You are not odd. This is the way it SHOULD be.
But, no progress in specific areas of bugs, hacks, exploits even after a year does not bode well for the game itself.
Of course you should play for "the game". But, if you ignore your home, or a car, it eventually starts to creak, to squeek and to slowly corrode.
This is what is happening. If that muffler fell off your car, and no mechanic fixed it, are you going to continue driving that car?
I expect more is all when I pay a monthly fee. Maybe you do not..I am unsure.
Anyways, I hope it continues running for you. To me, I think it will stall right when it goes over the train tracks, with an Amtrak barreling at it.
What a dumb reason to leave a game you enjoy.
Whatever, I'll continue to play while you go on your "hunger strike"

DX10 does nothing for gameplay, unless you demand waving grass. I have played AOC with DX9 and 10 and went back to 9 as 10 did nothing for me.
That being said, Funcom has some of the worst CS in the biz. I am still waiting for the answer to a 2005 petition on AO.....
Hey OpenEdge,
I saw that post on the tech forums about your issues with the mouse / cursor and the screen res. I wanted to say I can appreciate how frustrating it is that your experiencing this with just the DX10 test client. I saw the replies from QA too on the 3 issue thread you made. It is obviously pissing you off and it would myself too if I was in the same boat. I know the issues with Autoface were said will be coming to a test server build soon. It would be nice to get that kind of update about the main issues your seeing. I don't see any harm in providing some thoughts on what might be causing it, if they have identified the issue but I understand that they wouldn't be able to give a timeframe or even an ETA.
I heard on the side that there is a more of a technical issues test fix coming, I would also feel confident that these things would be fixed for full proper implementation into live server. I think it is down to a case of prioritizing the order and not having the ability so much to go into mass detail for everyone.
Saying that, it sucks, you know it and the reader knows it. It wouldn't take much more dialogue from an official capacity to alleviate your frustration in the first place. Lets hope that comes in so you can continue to enjoy the test DX10 version.
If there is anything I can do, just gimmie a shout.
Ben
I'm so glad you mentioned this....*sniff* *sniff*....I thought I was the only one that Funcom took humiliating pictures of , while stripped naked in uncomfortable positions. Curse you Funcom. Thanks for speaking up...lol......actually the only problem I had with Funcom , that required support, was resolved in less than 10 minutes. I am hoping the new patch doesn't ruin the game for me , tho.
Quit then, chances are your going to play a different game that has directx 9...lol.
First off the graphics in DX 9 are pretty fantastic, back in January I posted as to I was wondering why they were putting so much emphasis on the DX10 client when the DX9 was perfectly adequate.
Secondly for them to keep insisting on calling the DX the test version after it was put on the main servers simply tells me that this is as good as it gets and they know it sucks but to save face they still call it the test version because they can't do any better. Sorry boys and girls but once it hits the main servers it is no longer the test version but is now the live version.
Thirdly what game are you headed to next ?
I miss DAoC

And so would anyone like it to be, in an ideal world that is how things works, you have communication back and forth. Funcom did answer to a question some time ago where the guy asked them why they don't read the posts peple made. And the answer was that they don't answer every issue thread/posts simply because if they do people will automaticly expect them to do it forever. Also if they should reply to each thread it would take up time from the guys reading the forums and make them less efficient.
If we look at the threads where funcom replies, you have like 5+ posts after the funcom one asking them new question. So for them to be super active on forums would mean they would have to hire a guy to do just that. Looking at testlive I haven't seen many other game developers being that active with communicating as Funcom is. They do post quite regurlay on test live, they don't post in each topic, but there is communcation going on there. Then again it all depends on the eye that see it, they might not comment the things you find important hence there is no action in your opinion.
