Any promising MMORPG's out this year?

I played ultima online for almost 4 years before quitting due to various reasons. {basically the newbies and whiners got their way and UO developed safe lands and sold out} .. it was my first mmorpg. When it first came out...God i remember how hooked I was then. I've played loads of MMO's since and have yet to capture that feeling again. Mind you, I'm talking about UO when there was no PK penalty (remember?),when I would strip naked just to run from cove to get to vesper so I can bank my stuff from the cove orc spawn, and there would be Pk's...man what a rush anyway. (Happy days!)

AoC doesn't come close neither do EQ2/WoW or WAR. The closest is EvE. and RIP Shadowbane.

Just wandering if anybody could give me any direction towards an awesome MMORPG that has recently come out or one that is coming out soon, why aren't there any UO clones? Hmm? Apart from TCoS 2009 looks very very barren, 2007 was okay, 2008 was slightly better. Are publishers waiting for Blizzard to stumble or for one of their games to be released / more details for their games to be released? I actually believe that Blizzard aren't the only ones making a secret MMO's, 2009/2010 looks too quiet or have people given up?

If you can relate please post (and will there ever be UO 2, don't Mythic hold rights to that or something??)

Thanks

if you're looking for that kind of PvP, running from spawns and rampant PKing then you should take a look at Darkfall.

Many will disparage it but it has exactly what you mentioned.

For me Aion is the only thing I even consider playable coming out this year.

Not to say that I only consider Aion playable, to the contrary I love the game, it was only meant to show the lack of quality I see in this years line-up.

The Secret World will come out sometime in the next few years and if that game is even 50% of what I'm hoping for I'll play that until the lights go out in the city.

I havent played it but I've read that Darkfall is reminiscent of UO playstyle

aion is already a big succsess so you cant knock succsess and if you like chasing others around in circles like a dog trying to catch his own tail then i suggest darkfail

Avoid Darkfall, the cheating is rampant in the game.  Unless that is your thing I would not bother trying it.

Aion coming this fall would be the only major release.  Supposed to be very good.  Have to wait and see.

AION is looking pretty good so far.

TCoS looks promising and interesting.    Right now you anyone who will/is registered has like 1.5 weeks of free subscription time.

The download/client is free.   So nothing to really lose except download/instal time.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Earthrise shall launch this year and yay it shall be great for our lord Koster has forseen it!

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

    The Future:

If you liked UO and want something similiar to it, check out Mortal Online. They've come out and said they've been directly inspired by UO and are trying to achieve something modern and similiar with MO.

It definitely looks interesting and pretty good so far.

    The Current:

Darkfall - while having FFA PVP and looting, seems to be lacking in all other areas of gameplay, but it migh be worth checking out anyway.

EVE Online - superb game but incredibly difficult to get into.

    The failed:

    WAR, AoC, TCoS

I think some of the biggest anticipated MMOs. CHampions online is a game for players who enjoyed CoX and are looking for something non-fantasy

I wager a lot of sci fi players are looking at star trek ...although I am hesitant and think tis game may be a set up for dissapointment.

Star wars:TOR has a lot of people excited, but it remains to be seen if it can ressurect the SWG phenom

Earthrise looks great. Open pvp, territory warfare(territories give resources to craft, guild constructed bases), player loot, in depth crafting, etc.

    Fallen Earth

    Global Agenda

    Jumpgate Evolution

    Stargate Worlds

That is of course if the make their deadlines... which probably is a bit unlikely for some of them

I doubt Champions Online will be anything but a dull PvE grindfest, like CoX was. Hopefully they'll at least get character creation right ;)

Check out LinkRealms. Very much like UO. I am playing darkfall right now.........and do not mind it. Its slowly getting better.  I too left UO after trammel was added. Rumor has it that a classic server(Shard) is in the works for UO........No trammel but the land mass will be bigger for housing. If this happens.......I am so going back to UO......as will 1,000's of other people.

    The Shikkadance Cometh!
