Why should I play this game?

I have not paid a  whole lot of attention to AOC. I am a Conan fan but the game is beyond my current computer's capabilities.  I am updating my computer soon and will be capable of playing AOC.  So I ask you why should I play this game rather than going back to LOTRO?  I am a bit bored with LOTRO - which I left after Mines of Moria due to lag from all the new players.  Now would be a good time to hit me, but I want facts and examples, not oh this is a good game.. why is it a good game.  I have heard both horrible things and recently some good things.  So: Hit me! - as the Joker said, HIT ME!

We could tell how awesome the game is, but you should try the trial to see it for yourself.

Im brand new to it and my opinion is anyone should try it if not only to experience the combat system.

I cannot explain it but its certainly worth a free trial to give it a go.

You are going to try it because you are bored of your current mmo.  Its looks alone will blow your mind.   THe melee combat system is fun and Ive never been a melee guy.   No reason to ever go back to auto attack.    The pvp is brutal.   Like steamrolled  brutal.

Tortage is sorta rough to get into especially if you have never been  a  questing type, but tis smooth sailing after that.

It's a game of overall low standards in all forms, maybe except for graphics.
So yes, why would you play this game.

Well I am trying to do that - but until next week or so I may not be able to play it, as I said my present processor is a little slow for what is advertised.  Been reading up on it, seems like there is both some discontent towards and excitement about the 1.05(?) update.  When is that or did it already happen.  What classes are going to be nerfed or made better?  Like I said give me some examples - what's the best solo class, the best group class, the best PvP class.  Is the whole world PvP or only mini-games, or are there PvP zones?  C'mon tell me - you the fanboys, here's your chance.  And the malcontents - give me examples of that too - it's easy to say a game sucks when you  really just don't like it, what sucks for you may not suck for me so tell me what it is.

For example I play EVE, many people trash it but some of the reason's they trash it (hard learning curve for example) are reasons why I like it( hard learning curve tends to quickly cause the whiners and those looking for an easy game to master to quit).   So rant and rave on, please

That is 1 of several reasons.. Conan Fan is another.  Heard the problems are being addressed another and having a computer that can play it the last.

    Why Play?

That's hard to answer.  There is a free trial, and you'll see for yourself.

I'm new to the game, from the free trail, and have the game on order.  Here's what hooked me to keep playing for awhile;  Note: I'm on a PvE sever...PvP servers seem to be playing a different game.

    1) graphics are AMAZING.  I didn't think that was a big deal, but they've done this so well, that it makes the world seem real.  I mean I've killed a bajillion spiders in my game playing days...but these are the first to seem real.

    2) The world seems huge.  One thing I love in an MMORPG is to explore the world.  And this one seems wonderous at times.  Standing by an ocean or a mountain top, it's just amazing to see and explore.  This is what has hooked me.  Yeah, I understand, that one day, when I've seen it all, that will lose some of the game's charm.

    3) Game doesn't feel like it's about power leveling to the end as fast as you can so you  can be Uber.  It seems to be more laid back, and enjoying the story and world.  This is the first game, I'd really like to try role playing (too bad the only role playing sever is pvp).  I feel as if I've stepped into a Robert E. Howard story.

    4) Combat is very unique.  It adds so much to the game.  But it's not TOO complicated either.

If you like LotR and it's questing..than you won't mind Conan, as it has questing as it's central focus as well.  There is some PvP on the PvE servers, but it's limited.  On the PvP servers, it's well...a free for all, all the time (as I understand it)

This game is not with out issues.  It was thrown out, not even close to being finished, and many things still aren't, and some I doubt ever will be.   Some stuff in the game seems cobbed together.  BUT many issues are being addressed, and the game seems to be getting better, and more polished. (Unlike the game I came from WAR, which is in many ways is  in a better spot...but getting more broken).

I'm a Conan fan too.  For the record, you don't play as Conan.  You may know this...but many seem disapointed to find this out.  I believe you do meet him later in the game.

DID ANYONE MENTION THAT IT'S FREE TO TRY OUT?  If you don't like it...go play something you do, or try out others, but give Age of Conan a spin.  I did, and I'm sticking around for awhile.

Very easy to say, but why - what are your complaints?  make your points, don't just say stuff with no back up.  Makes me think you don't have a point , just don't like the game.

Don't ask for facts on this forum, at best you'll get honest opinions.

As already stated, you can download a free trial version. Then you will get the luxury of making up your own opinion.

Its a great game in its current state and is consistantly getting even better. Update 1.05 will be amazing and theres so much more potential for Funcom to tap into.

There free trials available, why wouldn't you try it   : P

Are you asking why do not try? Silly. Becouse people are focused to end game (usually). Endgame in AOC it is piece of junk. Whole game is a one big joke. Gems doesnt works, crafting doesnt exists, dungeons are boring,  etc etc.

Lets say it clear. Game is not worth of your time. Wanna try, sure, have fun. But do not expect there will be some great final, in the end you see big 0. Funcom should make new version of Tetris not try create some mmorpg game.

Of course that is my (and few hundret of thousends) oppinion. Nothing more.

Although everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that I would like to comment on a couple of your statements.

Crafting has seen huge improvements since launch, the only profession that is known to be "useless" is gemcutting, which you also mention but that has been fixed 100% with the Gemcutting/Gem revamp in 1.05. There is alot of information out on the new system, I would recommend reading up on it.

The end game is great for such a young game. I will comment on some things available on my server which is a pve server

    • Level 80 6 man instances. There is Atzels, Onyx, Xib, Hideout, The 3 resouce instances, and there is a new level 80 instance in the new zone coming in 1.05
    • 24 Main Raiding. There are currently 2 Tiers of raiding. Tier one consisting of three raid instances (4 bosses) and Tier two consisting of three wings (9 bosses).
    • PvP. There are sieges, although not many on my pve server. There is a good amount of FFA pvp in CE and mini-games pop fairly frequently. Kush is our dueling grounds.
    • Solo Instances. 5 Villas and Slaughterhouse
    • Guild City Progression, Battlekeep City Progression... pve/pvp resourcing and crafting

These are a few, but the games still young and imho doing very well.

Sorry to hear that.  The game is pretty beefy, and does want a good video card.  Mine (nvidia 8600 GT w 256) is barely enough.  If you are getting a new computer, I'd really suggest going new on the video card and getting as much built in memory in the cards as you can.  I've seen reports of those new ones with 1GB memory really running this game amazingly well.

I have 2.6 Gz dual core, Nvidia 8800 ultra and 2gb of ram and I run at nearly max settings and very smooth. The game doesn't require much for its graphics and these days I don't see how a gamer could have a worse computer since you wouldn't be able to run any new games coming out.

The game in my opinion is the best MMORPG out at the moment and it is only getting better, my trial ended and soon I am going to store to buy the game.

I think that a lot of these people that think there is nothing to do at max level have done 80% of what you have listed.

To add there is also group level 80 dungeons in Tarantia Commons too and most likely more will follow. Takes ages to clear and very tough.

The main focus over the past 3 months has been on adding high end content, there is proof in the game right now there have been additions and focus and proof on the test server this is not letting up. Anyone arguing otherwise that this is not part of the current focus is very short sighted and ignorant of visible changes.

The quality of them is getting better and better from a high initial standard.

A lot of people have left me feedback that they are happy playing the game in full knowledge there is some continued decent support when they hit level 80 and well after.

it isn't the video card - it is the processor.  I just bought a amd phenom quad core and more ram and a new Asus mother board - if'm that don't do it I quit. (have a nvidia 9600 gt)

Well, I finally updated my computer and played AoC today.  After day 1 - about 8 hours of gameplay - day off - I made 1 13th lv, 1 11th lvl and a couple of 6th lvl toons.  I like some of it, but there is something lacking(for me), I am not sure what it is.  It is certainly not the horrbile game that some people say it is.  I seem to like LOTRO better and am going to go back to it.  For those who enjoy AoC - I hope that Funcom continues to support this gme, there were things I liked about it and I am not saying it is a bad game, it just does not offer me the experience that I want I guess. Enjoy.

Well, at least you got to try out Tortage...

    Enjoy LoTRo

DX10 looks amazing.  I've left and gone back to AoC twice now since launch.  I find it has the best end game content is challenging with al lot of replayability.  Great seige battle pvp. Great guilds, however the community is like any other, there are some really cool guilds and some real annoying ones too, but I've seen that in evey mmo I've played.  If you find a cool guild this game is a lot of fun.  Also a good solo game.  I solo'd my first character to level 70 without grinding.  You'll have to group for some quests but easy to find groups for those, and most of the time you can solo the easier group quests if you are a higher level.  I'm a big Robert E. Howard fan and a big Tolkien fan.  If you are a Howard fan you will not be dissapointed in the game.  LoTR does a great job of implementing lore, but after reading both Howard's and Tolkien's biographies I have to say that I believe if Tolkien and Howard could look at these two games, Howard would say that Funcom got closer to his vision then Tolkien would.  Knowing how Tolkien felt about his various stories I think the game design would be far from what he would have envisioned.  The AoC world is bgi but it's zoned like EQ2 or LoTR, not open world like Vanguard.  But you will have to play more then one character to experience it all at the proper level.  There were so many cool zones I missed with my first guy that I got to play through with my second.
