Give Blizz A Break

I will grant that Blizzard should have seen the crowds coming and they could have been more prepared for launch. It is rediculus to anger customers right off the bat with server issues and installation problems.

But lets not forget what they had committed their time to. Their actual game went through the open beta with virtually no bug reports... now I don't have a huge frame of reference, but from what I have heard there are many games that have gone live with far more (gameplay) bugs that WoW. The blizzard employees I'm sure have enough on their plates without a community of crazed fans demanding their own indvidual satisfaction at the expence of the community. Just sit back, relax and wait it out. Blizzard has not been a company that has abandoned it's customers, it will be fixed as soon as it possibly can be.

However I still do not understand the reason behind having more PVE servers then  PVP.... In all the betas this was not the case if I remeber correctly.. This is the major problem right now not enough PVP servers. Just makes no sense for them to do this, huge error in judgement if you ask me..

Its still a great game though, without a doubt.

I think they're adding mostly pvp servers now, due to that demand of course, and in the open beta i'm pretty sure it was something like 3 normal servers to every 1 pvp server. Don't quote me on that, thats just what I thought I saw.

  • NeasNeas Member Posts: 887

It was weird because in all the betas PVP was the low population and PVE was high.

I think now that people are gonna play till 'end-game' then they want pvp in as an option as itll make it more fun.

Or maybe loads of carebears got into the betas :P.

You know what the best part of all is? All those nay-saying carebears that are always on MMO forums preaching that PVP is the minority of MMO fanbase and how nobody likes it. Oops... hahaha!

I also agree but they really should have seen this coming. It has been obvious to most people who play MMORPG's on a regular basis that this was going to be huge. Not going for global release has also compounded the issues and funnelled all the customers onto the US servers and it is likley to remain that way (and yes there are many ways around the payment issues for us Euro players we have 2 accounts up and running right now).

But it does have to said that a 1.5 hour cue to log onto a server is a crazy situation.

    so

10 out of 10 for a great game.

but ... minus several 1000 for common sense and market awareness. IMO they should have held back a little and been more prepared after they saw what happened in open beta .. surely thats what the open beta was for.

But all this said very little will drag me away from playing this game .. its awesome.

    have fun ;)

All things considered, I think it was a very good first day for Blizzard. There were problems, mostly in the late afternoon and evening. But the servers weren't down for all that long and of all the horror stories I've heard about other releases like AC2 and AO, WoW went much smoother.

Chuckle, I guess the shipping department for got to inform the server guys on how many boxes they were shipping to the stores. Nope, not Blizzards fault the launch turned into a fiasco worthy of Artifact Ent. and Horizons.

Put away the crack pipe, Jack. This launch hasn't been that bad at all, you ever try to play EQ, AO, Shadowbane, just about any other MMO at launch? If you'd been there you'd realize that this is a cake-walk compared to some of the launches I've seen. Quit griping and try again in a few hours.

Oh I guess waiting ques, server crashes, lag from hell, the data base problems etc aren't really bad after all. methinks you are the one who needs to cut down on the crack friend. And yes I was there for the AO debacle of a launch and SWG's. This one seems to top them both.

As I've said several times on this forum, QUIT TRYING TO GET ON THE SAME F-ING SERVER AS DIE AND YOU'LL BE FINE! It seems to be beyond the comprehension of everyone that the whole damned world can't all play on the same freakin' server and expect things to work. Nice voice: Try playing a Pac or Mountain server, I played on Pac PVP server Wolffrost or whatever from 11/22 @ 2:00am till 11/23 @ 9:pm PST with no issues whatsoever.

You can't complain about the problem when you're part of it, homie. Also, these issues are nothing like the two you mentioned above games, seriously... what the hell are you on?

Who would'va thunk that EQ2's launch would be better than WoWs...

Last night, other than the queues, was fine, but this morning its unplayable; at least on Stormrage. This, obviously is not lag due to over-population, but rather database lag-- Which is something that definitely should've been fixed before retail. Especially since they had similar loads during beta as they have now; the bug causing it should've been visible.

...But one wonders why there is database lag with far fewer players(no queue) and not when there was a queue of over 400...

blizzard deservs every flame they are gettin right now...many people have suggested that they dont allow more people to create characters in the already full servers so people can disperse, but guess what they dont listen...

that would have been better. I can see eq2 boards all over the world talking about the waiting list system...and in top of that they ask people to play in servers of differents zones because according to them doesnt affect lag, essentially stating that the regional servers BS is a complete joke...

What more can you say to peop´le? even if i want more people to play this game and you say its a great game, they are screwing the work of fans all over.

Your post is contradictory. On the one hand, you say Blizzard shouldn't allow character creations on full servers. On the other hand, "restricting" people to timezones is a bad thing.

The reality is this - Blizzard recommends the server closest to you. You can play on whatever server you want. You just have to click on one button to choose. Not a hard thing to do, and that is your default realm when you log back in.

If you don't have any friends on any servers, what do you care which server you play on? I mean at that point, you are looking at the name only. Like hmm, Uther, what a cool name. Guess I will start there.

I applaud the way they did it. I had no problems creating an account, logging in, creating 4 chars, and getting off to my epic adventure.

With that said - the server I am on (Gorgannash) crashed at 11:30pm PST. I was a little irritated, but then I fired up CoH and was happily getting my level 8 tanker up to level 9.

Blizzard hasn't failed me in the past. Plus this is their first MMORPG - unlike Sony who has at least 3 out there. Plus EQ2 - gay. I mean they had all this time to make something great and BAM they let me down bigtime. But, somehow some people actually like it. Weird. But, I love blizzard games myself and hate SOE titles (Cause I've tried them and they suck).

Well aside from the raging flame war that occurred in the middle of the post, I'm glad that there is a lot of support for what blizzard is trying to do. I won't deny that EQ2's release was much smoother than WoW's (though I fear to open this to comparison) we have all heard from these forums that EQ2's actual content is incomplete. So sucess and failure is relative to the topic at hand, I'm more of a content freak so I'd say good job to Blizzard.

I am really shocked to hear that the WoW launch didn't go so well.  I figured it was a lock that after all that time spent, the release would be smooth and pretty much problem free.

Now I don't play WoW, I am just going by what I have read, but if the posts about the servers going down and the long wait to log in are true, then I feel bad for you people who just bought the game and were hoping to play.

After playing the WoW Beta, I was impressed just how polished it was.  It is a great game that is a lot of fun, and the one thing I thought was certain was that Blizzard would nail the release of WoW which they have really taken their time making.

I'd just like to point out, for all of the Everquest II flamers, that EQ2 launch has been virtually flawless for most people, despite what those EQ2 haters have posted about it's bugs and lack of beta testing.  It just goes to show that Open Beta is just not a necessary step in making a game.  My guess was that EQ2 would have a poor launch and WoW would be a flawless one.

One other thing I'd like to point out is that modern mmorpgs cannot be compared to the older ones.  When you compare WoW's launch to Dark Age of Camelot, Anarchy Online, and Horizons, you are not really making accurate comparisons since the newer games have had more to learn from with the bad examples set by those older games.  To me, it is inexcusable for a game like WoW to launch poorly because it has learned so much in it's gameplay from other games from the past and improved on them all, why could it not get it's technical issues fixed for launch, or at least anticipated better?  This is compounded by the very long time it took to make WoW.  I expect a game like Saga of Ryzom to launch terribly, because not enough time was spent refining it.  Blizzard had a lot of time, but maybe they were pressured by the release of SoR and EQ2 and did release the game a bit too early?

Anyway, I am sure that the problems with launch will be fixed shortly and WoW will continue to be a great game.
